The room we had was off the entrance. This detracted from the ambiance of the stay. A room off the small traditional street should be for all. This is not mentioned when booking.

Fantastic overall. Loved the feel. Enjoyed nearly everything.

The location is a bit further out but close to some attractions like Nijo-castle and the Imperial Palace (surrounding park). We didn't mind so much because we liked the room and the area so much, but it is a few kilometres from the main tourist areas/restaurants so that's to be kept in mind. The room was very clean as was the bathroom, although there were a few tiny cobwebs here and there, which may be difficult to get rid of for this type of building.

This is a great place to stay for when you want to have your own private quiet space (and a bit more space than a typical hotel room), but still want to be cared for by hotel-like staff. We landed on this place because I wanted to stay in a typical Ryokan, but my husband wanted his own bathroom. It was the best stay of our Japan trip out of 3 hotels that were all far above average. It feels very secluded and private, there are around 10 apartments in total and everyone has their own entrance. There's a coin washing machine as well. There is a small breakfast buffet with really great coffee and they provide some free snacks during the day as well I believe. All in all it feels really kind and caring.

Authentic, self contained, a gem of a place in a quiet yet accessible location. The staff were exemplary! They go above and beyond to make guests feel at home in this quaint, traditional accommodation.

This is more of a personal preference- the room was way too bright. I strongly recommend a blind to make the room a bit darker for guest who would like to sleep in.

The staff and breakfast was wonderful! Room was beautiful!

Nothing, wish I could have stayed longer.

Beautiful place, charmingly historic-feeling but with all modern amenities. Comfortable and spacious (although watch out for the low ceilings, not much you can do about that)

I got two townhouses; one had a very large beautiful tub that you could soak in comfortably and the other had a tub that was just big enough for one person. Though both were relaxing, I would prefer the larger tub.

The breakfast had good quality and variety. They had a fantastic coffee machine that was perfect for first thing in the morning. The portions were small, but you could go back and get more food if you weren't full.

A quiet little escape from busy, tourist packed Kyoto, perfect for our four night stay in Kyoto end March. Very reasonably priced compared to many of the Kyoto hotels. We had house number 5, very spacious, big very comfy bed. We loved the little lounge area where they serve breakfast and a selection of drinks and snacks throughout the day. We had a hire car and parked in the car park almost opposite, very reasonably priced. Great base to then explore Kyoto. We did also utilise nearby stations to get around. You are not super close to the very popular tourist areas but all very accessible and it suited us to have a quieter escape as the city was very busy coming into peak blossom time. Staff all lovely and helpful Thank you

The fire exit sign in the bedroom was so bright it was like the light had been left on. Not a problem though, just maybe take an eye mask 🙂

Excellent service, at many times it felt like we were the only ones in the hotel which we loved. Breakfast and alcoholic drinks included in the evening, great selection for both, especially liked the local scones and granola for breakfast. We picked room 5 which was huge and had a gorgeous bathroom. Bed and bedding so comfy. Washing machine and dryer available which we found useful halfway into our 2 week trip in Japan. We used the city bus a lot to get around Kyoto, really easy to use and only a 5 minute walk from the accommodation.

Cloudy, rainy weather - but that wasn't the hotel's fault!

Absolutely loved the character and charm of the hotel, the facilities, the lounge area for breakfast/evening drinks, ease of use of the washer/dryer that was there. The hotel was in a quiet residential section of Kyoto, yet access to Nijo Castle, the Imperial Palace and downtown Kyoto was very easy and within a 15 minute walk. Access to the train stations and Uber/Taxi's were equally easy. Amazing local restaurants within walking distance of the Hotel - highly recommend Daigan around the corner for an amazing sushi with an engaging/entertaining/welcoming chef.

Only a few minor things: I'd love to have been able to open the door by the bath but it was locked for safety, dark curtains above the bed would help with lights outside, the walls were a bit scuffed which is so minor but it would elevate the room to address it. Does not change our strong recommendation to stay!

Very cool machiya experience, nice and modern with traditional touches. The big gate and alley way was just such a neat touch and in our opinion the whole aesthetic is way better than a hotel downtown. The round wooden bath was really cool and the bed was comfortable; lots of space in the unit (we had the one at the very back 5 I think). We loved the complimentary "red room" snacks and drinks; pretty cool to be able to try different sake and wine etc for free. The staff was super nice and helpful! Great location for buses and stuff too.

Nothing comes to mind. I loved this place.

This property has a great authentic Japanese feel. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. it’s managed extremely well, which I believe makes all the difference in this situation. We loved spending our evenings and mornings here either in our own area or hanging out in the common dining area eating snacks and drinking a beverage next to the garden. A very memorable stay and I highly recommend it if you are looking to try something different than the high rise style hotel.
