Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaBoth the room and shared bathroom were clean. The next bus stop is not far away, but if you have to go to Gora train station, I would definitely recommend a taxi. Google Maps will advise you to take the bus and have a short walk, but the short walk turned out to be quite a hike

United StatesIt’s normal for this kind of accommodation, but noise travelled very easily and I found it difficult to sleep. Not really a problem though, I really liked it overall.
Really beautiful property in a convenient spot for what we were doing. Extremely responsive host, and the host was very friendly upon checkin. Our room also had a lovely view of the surrounding mountains.

JapanWe stayed in the dorms, which didn't have complete walls, making it easy to hear everyone around us, and we had some noisy neighbors.
Rooms were nice and private, beds were clean and comfy, location was nice

AustraliaNarrow, but the futon was nice and comfortable. Has space above to store big stuff like luggage. The walls don't connect to the ceiling so you can hear every noise people make which is fine as everyone keeps quiet. Except some guests are loud snorers and you can hear that clear as day, so keep in mind if you're a light sleeper. I can sleep through anything so it was fine, and kinda funny. The bathrooms and showers were kept clean, and it was really nice that there was a washer and dryer to wash your clothes. They provided extra amenities that you pay a couple yen to use, such as towels, combs, toothbrushes etc. which is nice as well. Nice location with a bus stop, restaurants and 7/11 nearby.

DenmarkThe walls are thin, imagine like being without them (luckily during our 1 night stay it was quiet, otherwise, it could have been challenging to get a good night's sleep.) The place is lacking plates, cutlery and cups (I was given upon request) It might get cold during the night time
Convenient location if doing the whole Hakone Loop The "authentic" feeling of the place

GermanyCompared with other Hotels it was not so perfectly clean, but it was clean enough, a few hairs on my bedsheets don’t bother me too much. The walls were very thin so you hear all the noises from the other guests. Utilities like towels are not free in the room, you have to „rent“ them for a small fee.
Because of the ryokan design, the Room is pretty spacious compared with other hotel rooms in Japan. It has also a a/c system which can warm up the Room very fast, because the Isolation is Not so good. The host was very nice and explained everything. Even without good english skills, communication was no problem. The staff was very kind and relaxed. The hotel bar is worth a visit, very good prices and one of the best Whisky collections i ever saw!

GermanyThanks a lot for the nice stay and the unforgettable new year eve in the bar. We had a great time with the hosts and other travellers. Great location for walks to Mt. Fuji, restaurants, stores and bus stop close by, still in a nice and quite residential area. Hosts a very helpful and gave us many valuable recommendations.

MalaysiaTowels are for rental only, and bathrooms are all shared. Not a con but something to note. Slightly far from the main tourist area so bus rides are needed, though two stations are in walking distance.
Slightly off the beaten path, would be ideal for backpackers instead of families. Surrounded by great looking restaurants though most had unfortunate working hours that we missed for a one night stay. The room is cozy and more spacious than most budget hotels. Staff is friendly and was there to greet us for the check in, while check out was hassle free. Features a cool looking bar that we unfortunately was too tired for. View during the evening and sunrise was stunning

United StatesThere is only one restaurant around but it is closed early. So, we have to walk for a few minutes to find something to eat.
It is very clean and tidy because it is open for 3 months. The staff is nice although he can speak little English. In fact, he is willing to help and to provide services. The location is good because this is a bus stop close.

NetherlandsOther guests disrupting the quietness at night by talking loudly and being disrespectful. Of course, I can't blame the guesthouse when that happens.
There's a bar, where people can go and have a drink after exploring in Hakone, and to meet other guests as well. Moreover, the staff are exceptionally friendly and do their very best to give their guests a pleasant stay.

United KingdomReally loved my stay here. The rooms were comfy with a little nice thick duvet and fluffy pillows. It was really clean and modern throughout. The staff are really friendly too and the owner drove us a few times to the lake or station which was really kind. The bar is amazing and the bartender really knows how to make delicious cocktails. Great for socialising after a day exploring. It’s easy to get public transport to the tourist attractions! Definitely recommend

SingaporeThe walls were paper thin and I could hear every grunt of the lovemaking couple next door. The basin for washing face/brushing teeth was at knee level, and the alternative was a stainless steel sink tub.
The shower was great, the room was super clean and comfortable. Lots of eating places within walking distance though need to keep track of time as they close early.

GermanyI wasn't expecting the tops of the small rooms to be open. One person next to me was snoring extremely loud. A guest lounge would be nice, it's under construction.
In the little rooms there is enough space for one person to sleep and for a large suitcase. The bar ist very nice too. Showers very modern and clean.
