Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PhilippinesOur host / owner of the ryokan, was very warm and friendly and we immediately felt comfortable. We enjoyed the traditional futons, the yukatas and a close encounter with the Japanese family. The dining experience was superb! It is very near Nishiki Market. My family is grateful for the lady host who rode her bicycle to grab a taxi for us for our airport transfer. We couldn't recommend this enough. Grateful.

GermanyMy stay in Ryokan Sanga was really nice. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Booking, payment and any other communication went smoothly. You can also use a TaQbin from the accommodation to your next stay. It is a good area to stay at in kyoto, many things are in walking distance and you are close to any common bus line. The room itself was super pretty, and the futon comfortable. The onsen was really nice and you get a yukatta to use. The breakfast is extraordinary good if you like Japanese Breakfast, and I would recommend to book it. If you stay several days the breakfast will change slightly from day to day. I would definitely like to stay here again and would recommend the place to anyone that wants to stay in Kyoto!

United StatesBreakfast was wonderful. The variety of food and freshness was great. And, when my breakfast was inadvertently missed but my husband's was delivered, they gave me one very quickly without my even bringing it up.

IrelandThe host was really nice. The room was huge, clean and breakfast was excellent! We found a yukata in our room and we enjoyed the Japanese experience! The hot bath was clean and open until late. The other host, in the morning of the checkout helped us to call a hotel in Hiroshima and explained our issue on our behalf. The place is close to the wonderful market, a perfect spot to have lunch! Don't miss this structure! Absolutely worth it 😊

New ZealandWe enjoyed the friendly and warm hospitality throughout our stay. We also loved the dinner and breakfast that was exquisitely presented and prepared for us. We also liked the traditional Japanese clothes that we were allowed to wear during out stay. The only downside was that we didn't stay a little longer the next day, as we would have liked to have shopped in the nearby markets, which looked amazing.

United StatesThere was a faint smell but it went away with opening the windows.
We stayed here one night during our honeymoon. This was a lovely ryokan at an affordable price and we really got to experience the ryokan experience. The room with a garden view was lovely, the breakfast was an amazing traditional japanese breakfast, and the public bath was very relaxing. The staff were all very accommodating and kind. The location was great. Very lovely time at this ryokan in Kyoto.

AustraliaFutons were a little uncomfortable but most likely because we aren’t accustomed to them.
An absolute treasure trove ryokan with such special touches to accommodate guests. We loved the hosts, the stay and the food. The Kaiseki dinner was amazing!

United StatesI thought the room pieces could have been a little more coordinated, but other than that it was a great stay!
The breakfast provided was delicious, and you could tell there was a lot of effort and care put into its preparation. We appreciated the comfortable traditional clothing provided to us to wear while we were staying there. I highly suggest you wear the clothing. The entry to the ryokan was beautiful, and our room had a garden view. We enjoyed sitting in our small sitting room outside our sleeping room and admiring the garden while we ate some local strawberries. We could see someone picking up fallen leaves from the garden at one point, which was a testament to their attention to detail! The doors, walls and windows in our room all slid to open and added a sense of historical living. I loved being able to open them. All the employees were kind and really tended to our needs. The location was awesome, just a 5 minute walk to Nishiki Market.

United StatesOnly thing is our bedroom had a smell when you walked in. It smelled musty or like a hamster cage. But we just opened the windows to air it out and then it was fine. I would stay again though, it wasn’t a big deal compared to everything else that was great.
You have to stay here to experience a full Ryokan experience! Make sure to do the breakfast! They offer an 8 or 8:30am meal. I didn’t expect it to be that fancy. I’m glad it got me to try new things that I wouldn’t have necessarily ordered at a restaurant because I would have been nervous. I also liked that it was a few blocks away from the shopping district, which was closed around 8:30-9pm so the area got quiet at night. It’s an amazing spot for tourists to stay. The owner was super sweet, tended to us at the door every time was came in and left for the day. The staff was all sweet and attentive, I wasn’t expecting such service.

United KingdomThe flight of stairs leading up to the rooms are quite steep so it was hard for me to go up and down.
It was a traditional Japanese house which was very well maintained. The staff were very lovely and the food was delicious! We had a private bath which was nice as well. It was also located near nishiki market and a shopping district.

DenmarkAs I have back problems, it was a bit hard for me sleeping on a futon, but this is just a personal issue :)
Great and traditional ryokan. The hosts were excellent and were accommodating to our needs. I loved the onsen. Everything was super clean and tidy. Everyday we were also getting clean yukatas, hot water to make tea. Breakfast was awesome!

United KingdomIf you are a larger foreigner, this place may not be for you as it's traditional and low set furniture and smaller doors. I can not fault a single thing about this Ryokan at all.
Beautiful Ryokan in the middle of Kyoto, walking distance to popular districts while having a relaxing location. The staff were beyond welcoming and made us feel at home. They provided traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner which was delicious. Sleeping in the traditional Japanese tatami beds was one of the best sleeps I've had, they provided pyjamas and yakata/robes to wear around the hotel. It was like a well serviced and welcoming BnB. I definitely would stay here again and wish I had stayed longer than 2 days.

United KingdomMorning bath session would be nice.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Ryokan Sanga since I had read some poor reviews since booking. The location is close to the local market but some distance from the nearest subway. We took taxi to and from the railway station because of luggage The Ryokan Sanga is styled as a traditional Japanese inn although this sieems to be within a more modern structure. We were made welcome by the owner on arrival. Our room was comfortable and warm with 2 Futons laid on the mat. There was en-suite toilet and wash basin. Shower and bath was at the traditional communal Japanese bath which is only available in the late afternoon and evening.. A good traditional Japanese breakfast was served which varied over the time we stayed.

AustraliaThe pillows they supplied with the futons were very flat. They need to supply XXL size slippers for non-Asian guests with larger feet (they have L slippers, but even those were small). It would also be helpful if they had a sign near the front of the entrance to indicate how to properly enter a Japanese ryokan (etiquette about taking shoes off, etc).
The place was amazing, it was our first time staying in a traditional Japanese Ryokan. The tatami mats, public baths, futons, and all the traditional decor was very beautiful. Staff were very accommodating. The two men running the place tried their hardest to communicate with us in English (they're learning! Very cute). Breakfast was so beautiful, was an amazing start to the day. The baths were INCREDIBLE. The best bath I've ever had. Perfect temperature, so clean, the tub was massive. Toiletries and all the amenities were lovely, too.

AustraliaRoom is smallish, but fine. I don't love futon.
What a fantastic experience. The meals are an absolute must if you stay here. This accomodation is run by a lovely, kind family who cook exceptional food. We happily stayed for three nights and had breakfast and dinner which were always different and always mind blowingly good. Great spot, easy to walk everywhere you want to go, or hire a bike.
