The service was excellent! From the front desk staff to the hotel staff (especially the girl who set up our dinner, she had glasses and a ponytail), everyone was so kind and helpful, you could feel all the love they put in the guests service! Also the dinner/breakfast was absolutely delicious! One of the best we had in Japan so far! And the onsen too! So happy we could experience them in the beautiful ryokan! We'll be back for sure! Thank you❤️

Just a couple of small points. There was a strong light coming through the window which made it hard for me to sleep. I would have liked more and better towels to use in the onsen.

Lovely traditional ryokan with excellent food and very friendly, helpful staff who make you feel really welcome. Great location near centre of town but easy walk from the station. Enjoyed the onsen.

It would be better if there was better extraction or ventilation in the room. The lovely beef smell lingers after the dinner. The location is convenient but it provides no view.

The meal was beautifully presented and although we enjoyed the experience, the food wasn't to our taste. Quite expensive.

We enjoyed our experience at the Ryokan Tanabe very much.Our room felt spacious and we loved the Japanese-style dining area within our room.. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. We had our first use of an onsen which we found very relaxing. The location of the ryokan is fantastic.

This is a great ryokan! Everyone was so nice. The lobby, room and onsen were absolutely beautiful. The food was amazing! You are right at the river, just a short walk to old town and to the train station. Stay here!

I really didn’t find anything I didn’t like.

Really enjoy how clean the facilities were. It felt high end, and we were treated very well. Our room was very well decorated and the dinner and breakfast was an amazing and delicious experience. It was very central to many attractions within walking distance distance (5-15min)

The section we were in was a bit dated, but still very nice and clean.

This ryokan is in a great spot walking distance from the train station and very close to the sights. It had a nice bath and good food. I was glad we were able to book a room with a private bathroom, too. It was quite busy and larger than I imagined but the staff were all very nice

Sometimes you have the feeling not to have too much privacy, since they come in your room to bring breakfast, dinner, make the bed and remove it. But I guess this is part of the experience and the staff was anyway always very kind

We did half board with all meals served inside our room. This was not the best kaiseki experience we had, and we found the food to be fine, but not exceptional. There are so many cafes and izakayas nearby that it was a shame we had to eat in the hotel.

Room was lovely and traditional, though not the most comfortable futon beds we slept on during our Japan trip (ask for a second futon mattress!). Location was great -- easy access to train/bus station as well as old town and morning market. Onsens were traditional - one inside (hot spring) and two small (heated water) tubs outside. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
