The washing water at the onsen was quite cold. Made it a bit unpleasant washing in winter before getting in the onsen1

The men's shared bathroom only has one sitting toilet. My partner had to wait awhile to use the mens toilet in the morning. Women don't have this issue, since there were much more men than women staying at the hotel, at least when we were there.

Breakfast was a good mix of Japanese and Western foods, and included both coffee and tea. The onsen with rust-colored waters are well worth using, especially the outdoor baths. This is the highest elevation ryokan and onsen in Hokkaido, so it's a unique experience. The dinner also exceeded our expectations.

If I remember correctly, Booking.com didn't show a half-board option. Due to its remote location you can't get dinner nearby. No air condition in the rooms (they have a fan though)

The onsen/hot spring area has a lot of standing water between the entrance and the bathing part. It may just be the minerals, but is discolored and is just a little unpleasant to walk through.

The meals are excellent. You should make sure you reserve them with your room booking in advance. There is no where else to eat without driving down the mountain. You need to arrive early enough for dinner. They have set times. They have snacks and drinks for sale in the lobby. The mountain view from the outdoor hot spring bath is the best I have ever seen. I have lived in Japan more than 12 years. Great place to stay for photographers, hikers and BC skiers. Gets full during normal popular seasons. Fall leaves are amazing.

Even though we were aware of the public bathroom, it would have been better if we could have the same inside the room. But the public area was very clean and well managed.

It was a great experience to stay at Ryounkaku for two nights. Wonderful and healthy breakfast served by the kind staff delivered a pleasant memory.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and the location is perfect for backcountry skiing in the winter. The onsen is wonderful.

We are here early December, not many people here, and it is fantastic. For nature and hiking lovers this is the best place. We traveled Hokkaido to the far north, but here is the most snow and the food and onsen are beautiful as the mountains. Will rent snow shoes today and go up the mountain. The house, which has the spirit of an alp- mountain hut- is old and built around the Onsen, which is all natural water and giant stones, grown by moss inside and outside of the pools

Amazing location and very friendly staff. You can get the free bus from Kami-Furano straight to the front door. The views are incredible and the staff go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible (note that English is very limited). Thank you again!

The place best I could’ve asked for my birthday! The highest hotel and Onsen in Hokkaido, this place felt special and perfect for winter. The Onsen was amazing, and the staff was super nice and helpful. I did a snow shoe trek to a frozen waterfall and the guide (Aono-san) was the best guide I could've asked for. It was tough but worth every second. I had a wonderful time here and the best birthday of my life.
