Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomMy girlfriend and I stayed at sakura house for 4 nights out of our 14 day trip around tokyo, kyoto and osaka and it was by far our favourite stay during that time. Michi and katsu were amazing hosts and such friendly people we truly felt like part of their family. The room we stayed in was clean and equipped with everything we needed along with a private shower, sink and toilet, Couldn't ask for anything more. One of our favorite parts was our healthy and varied morning breakfast under the beautiful cherry blossom in the garden carefully and thoughtfully put together by michi. After breakfast in the sun, Katsu would always help us put together an itinerary for the day giving us recommendations for the best spots and travel advice for the day ahead. Overall a perfect stay in a stunning traditional Japanese home for a very reasonable price. We hope to come back one day.

NetherlandsThe distance you have to travel to go to places. It is fairly out of the way of mayor sightseeing places in Kyoto
The room was big and cosy, and it felt very homely. The owners are a nice elderly couple with a huge amount of knowledge about Kyoto and where to be. The breakfast was great and in abundance. The hosts truly make you feel at home.

GermanyIf you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of a big city, experience the everyday life of Japanese people and get a chance to connect with them in a way much deeper than any museum or tour can offer, then Sakura house is the right place for you. What a wonderful experience this was, the warm and cozy atmosphere, the kindness and care of the hosts, and of course, the delicious food made me feel like I wasn't just a tourist, but an honored guest, a part of the family even. Which is also why it was so hard to leave. Yet it's the same as sakura – your stay here, as short as it may be, will become precious to your memory and will make you want to come back to Japan again and again.

Everything was exceptional. The room size was very good compared to the hotel rooms. The room comes with private toilet and bathroom. The Kyoto station is only 2 stops away from a JR station just 8 minutes from the house( your JR pass can be used). The best thing was the amazing hospitality from Michi and Kudzo. They both took good care of me like an aunt and uncle would do. The breakfast in the garden( or inside in a beautiful Japanese setting when it was too hot) , was incredible, abundant and fresh. If you come to Kyoto you have to book at sakura house because it’s unlikelier you’ll find a better place to stay.

IndiaSomehow Google map wasn't showing the walking directions to these property properly.
Sakura house is a well maintained home stay. The owners also stay in the same property. I have never felt that I'm staying away from my home. Every need was promptly taken care of. I arrived late night without having dinner. The owner not only suggested an excellent place nearby, but also accompanied me to the restaurant and helped me with ordering etc. It was a huge help for me. It would have been difficult for me otherwise with my nearly zero knowledge of Japanese. I also got an excellent one day itinerary with details of which subway to use, where to eat, major attractions etc. It was really helpful for me. The highlight of my stay was the hearty breakfast in the garden. It was rather an art.

I was truly impressed by the owners’ exceptional hospitality. The couple are typical Japanese people who are dedicated to their work with elegance. I especially like the two breakfasts they made for me, which were full of ingredients, tasty and healthy, with a layout in a traditional Japanese style. A person with basic experience would know how time-consuming the preparation of their breakfast could be. The lady told me that many ingredients were actually from their own yard. Image that you have breakfast in a Zen-style living room, front is a yard with a good view, how happy you would be! To be honest, there are for sure a lot of good hotels, but this home stay just exceeded my expectation, as I felt more of being at home, like how your parents would care you. They prepared me an umbrella and a raincoat and asked me not to worry when I got up on the rainy day. They even helped me dry my drenched shoes, fill my bottle full with water, and give me some bandage when they noticed my feet injured, all beyond their due responsibility. These small but lovely moments offered me an unforgettable Kyoto memory.

United StatesIn all my years of traveling, this homestay will be my most memorable. Michi and Kudzo are the absolute perfect hosts. Breakfast in the garden, prepared by Michi is a work of art. With attention to detail, it is too pretty to eat. Kudzo is a master of directions to local sites of beauty. Together their kindness and authenticity provides a perfect experience not to be missed!

Everything! It was really cool staying in a typical Japanese home and learning about the culture and history from the hosts, they were absolutely wonderful. Michi is super kind and hospitable, there was an excellent breakfast with ingredients picked from her garden, and it was only an 8 minute train ride to Kyoto station. One of the best home stays I’ve experienced, and I highly recommend giving it a try instead of staying in city center with all the other tourists. Missing it already!

SpainAbsolutely the BEST place I have ever stayed in. It is a traditional Japanese house and the hosts are the couple that live there. The room is in the first floor, with private bathroom and shower and a balcony with a beautiful view of their garden and their cherry blossom tree. Beds were super comfortable and the breakfast in the garden was amazing and super delicious, even with fruits and vegetables from their own garden. They gave a lot of recommendations that really improved our trip to Japan. I wish I could have stayed for longer, they are lovely people that really made Kyoto feel like home. Thank you so much for your kindness! Just to clarify: 1. Yes, the Shinkansen railway is close to the house. No, you won’t hear it at all while you rest. we stayed for 5 days and it was never a problem. 2. It seems that the house is far from the center, but it is not. it’s a 5 minute walk to the train station, which is 2 stops away (exactly 5min) from Kyoto central station. The fare is included in your JR Pass if you have it.

IrelandThe Shinkansen train track is pretty close to the house. I loved it myself, but it could be an issue for light sleepers.
Super friendly hosts! They know a lot of great spots around and they can even give advice on what to see in other areas of Japan, like what to do in Kyūshū. The view from the bedroom is really nice, even when the Sakura is not blooming. And it’s not too far from a JR station so anyone with the JapanRail Pass can quickly get to Kyoto center without any hassle.
