Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It is Japanese style Ryokan and the facilities are reasonable good and clean.

GermanyIf I had to come up with something I'd say the fact that it's an at least ten minute walk to the next public transport station. No dealbreaker for us and it's very close to Nishiki Market and the Kamogawa, which was more important to us. Also, futons are hard. Which someone booking a Ryokan should know. We got a second mattress from the staff to make it more comfortable for me because I'm pregnant.
This Ryokan was an absolute bargain compared to what you're getting. We loved the variety of breakfast options (I was starving for that granola after two weeks in Japan!), the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and foremost how beautiful the inside of the hotel is. Our room was absolutely gorgeous (we had the maisonette type room) with access to a small rooftop garden and fresh air, which really isn't common in Japanese hotel rooms. We loved the Yukata and all the provided slippers. The tatami floors in the rooms are super clean and smell fresh, it's obvious that everything gets taken care of frequently and with great care. If we come back to Kyoto we will very likely book Sakura Urushitei again to repeat the experience!

CanadaGreat location with super friendly English speaking staff!! Since we arrived early, they allowed us to leave our luggage at the hotel while we went out. Rooms are very nice with air conditioning and housekeeping. Was able to send my luggage to my next hotel and they did it for me, all I had to do was pay. Also was able to do our laundry which they brought back to our room and folded! Overall super friendly staff and an amazing stay! Highly recommended

United StatesNo rubbish bins around the hotel lobby.
The staff are friendly and multicultural. They gave us a map for sight-seeing and you can grab extra amenities at the lobby if you need it(i.e. toothbrush, hairbrush, cotton buds). The hotel is strategically located in a place where it's close to convenience stores and laundrymat. It's about 15 minutes walk to Kyoto Station and Downtown Kyoto. The room is clean and traditional. Love that they have 2 options for the type of beds when you make the booking. We enjoyed our sleep on the Tatami Mat. It's so comfortable. We are happy with our stay in this place and would love to go back and recommend it to others!

United StatesThought it was a little overpriced since the rooms are meant to be simple and not much there. Other than that, it was a fun experience!
The staff was amazing! The French guy there was super nice and helpful, as were the others. We also liked the breakfast and the way it was organized.

United StatesRoom & bathroom - wish it was a little bigger
The Ryokan was very nice. The room and bathroom is little small but it was very nice and met all basic requirements. The ryokan itself was very pretty and charming and we enjoyed the breakfast we bought there a couple of times. Staff were amazing and helped us ship a bag back to Tokyo.

AustraliaThe only downside was our room was located on the main road so it was loud at times with traffic and sirens.
Location is good. The room was comfortable for a family of 3. Our toddler loved making the beds every day before bed :) the staff are really friendly and speak fluent English. I've read some reviews that it's not authentic because of the foreign staff. At the end of the day, it's a hotel/accommodation for travellers. Would definitely stay here again.

United StatesI’m totally lazy and didn’t want to make my own bed at night hahaha. I guess it’s part of the experience but when I returned back to the room after 2 sakes I’d have to make the bed up and I don’t think I ever did it quite right.
The complimentary tea was delicious and I think about it every day. The staff were super friendly. It’s a great hotel for the price and the location is perfect — just a little on the fringe of all the tourist action so it was quiet and felt more authentic.

Very beautiful and natural downstairs particularly. Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English . Opportunities to participate in cultural experience in the Ryokan which apart from the Onsen we didn’t have time to do sadly ! The sake was cheap and rather a lot for the price but helpfully Pierre one of the staff warned us about its strength . Close to wonderful eateries and shops including the food market .
