How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

kitchen and sitting area on the first floor a bit caotic.
Cool lounge and coffee area on the main floor. You can easily socialise. Staff is friendly too.

Beds were simply not good, just a very thin mattress. Staff were not helpful when asked about basic stuff.
Location is unbeatable, so close to good spots to visit, or to transportation.

The bed was really hard, which is typical to Japan but I think this one was even harder than normal. I got too much exercise walking 2 flights of stairs just to even use the sink or go to kitchen.
Cute kitchen, good location near the geisha district of Gion and 15 min walk to centre, 7/11 convenience is 5min walk away. nice staff. The spacious downstairs lounge area is open I think 24/7 which is great if you want to hang out late. Socializing in the small kitchen with just 2 tables is easy.

I wish there was a secure place to store medium to large bags as the lockers are just big enough for a backpack but for solo travellers it’s not the worst
The location is great! Getting to kiyomizu early was no problem as it was a short walk!

Most uncomfortable bed ever: ultra thin pillow and mattress. The rooms are in floor 3-4, showers&kitchen in F2, so be prepared to be going up/down all the time.
The location, near to Kiyomizudera Temple.

The restroom next to the room have no sink (so it is kinda boring to go downstairs every time you have to wash your hands). The shower and the sink area are closed from 11am to 3pm to clean. And the kitchen was a bit dirty (I think that the little oven has never been cleaned). The room was a bit stinking and I had no space for my suitcase since the bed number 1 and 2 are smaller than the others.
The price was good. There are few market and restaurant near the hostel. Okay for few days.

The whole building is not well cleaned and has some strange smell.
The location was ideal to walk around Gion and Kiyomizu-dera. The shared bathrooms were comfortable.

Uncomfortable bed.
Good location on the bus route to and from the station. Lots of facilities to cook and do laundry. Spacious showers.

The 4th floor had no air flow with the door closed and the dormitory was warm. The stair case was cooler than my sleeping area. Also there were people with lights on in the dormitories which made it hard for me to sleep.

It is a nice place to stay and have a good rest because the hostel is quite and has the amenities that you need. The location is perfect if you want to visit some of the nice temples. It takes just from 10-20 min. walking to some famous spots.

The upper bunks are directly below the ceiling lights, meaning if anyone decides to turn on the light at 2 am then youre instantly awoken.
Staff were nice and friends and check in was a breeze.

The airco was too hot and there was only one window in the room with many many beds... it was very stuffy the whole time and i felt like there was not enough fresh air for the amount of people in the room. The window should be ALWAYS open when there is 10 or more people sleeping in 1 area.
Good location, good beds, friendly staff. The common area was nice too.

Really dirty, especially in the kitchen. The bed was uncomfortable. It works for one night but not for more, I guess. Atmosphere not great.

If you're unlucky enough as I've been you'll get your bed close to a column, making it shorter. All other bed spaces included bed + some free space with a shelf at the end of the bed for luggage and stuff, mine didn't because it had a column taking that space, luckily i could leave my luggage in my friends space since they had some left.

No aircon in the room we stayed in so was very hot, the mattress after 2/3 nights had squished so it felt like you were sleeping on the bare wood
Cheap hostel with good basics. The showers were nice and the common room pretty comfy. Friendly staff and great location.
