Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe had were given beds instead of futons on floor. The beds and the pillows were fairly hard and not entirely comfortable.
The room was so spacious and elegant facing a gorgeous private yard; the private onsen was wonderful. The public onsen was great too - I loved having both outdoor and indoor options. The meals were elaborate, beautiful and delicious and the service was excellent.

They do a shuttle but it’s difficult get a hold of shuttle service for tourist who have an esim without a Japanese phone number. They Could use what’s app as a mode of communication facilitate this.
Location was great ! Food was great and traditional. This is ideal if your looking for an authentic on-sen experience

United StatesThese did not at all reduce our appreciation for our stay but instructions on how to wear the yukata and what the etiquette is for using the public onsen as well as more light for the dressing table would be useful for visitors like us who are new to these and want to follow local customs.
Our stay at Sanyo-so was the most refreshing, relaxing, revitalizing & re-energizing stay we've ever had at an hotel. Their thoughtful attention to detail and remembering every aspect of our needs truly moved us.

GermanySince its not a family run Ryokan, the feeling is a bit impersonal. The restaurant is huge and even the food itself was delicious, the atmosphere is a bit cold. The drink menu is very limited and a bit overpriced. Be careful of the mosquitos in the public outdoor onsen.
A wonderful Ryokan with a giant garden - the room was huge with a nice little private garden and a water stream - the private onsen was ready to jump in and is big enough to enjoy - The installation of the Hotel is unique and you have to be ready to walk some distances - The Staff was really nice and no problem to communicate with - Food is delicious and not in the big quantities as most other Ryokans

This place is a total new world you’ve ever dreamed. The offered pictures are just small parts of Sanyo-so. We definitely have been healed during the stay with the room, the hot spring in the suit, the phenomenal foods and the services of kindest staffs. No worries for the location. You will be shuttled safely and comfortably from Mishima station.

Thailandno wifi in my villa and also cannot accomodate breakfast and dinner in our room. so we have to walk so long to reach the restarant for dinner and we lost our way to come back to our villa. In the morning, it was rainning and we have to walk outdoor so long to go to breakfast hall which is not suitable for us (traveling with 3 years old child) so we call to cancel the breakfast which the hotel cannot offer anything to this situation.

United StatesWe did have a little bit of a challenge communicating with a clerk. We wanted to visit Izu Panorama and didn’t know if we had time to do so or not. I don’t think the person checking us out even knew what it is, and wasn’t able to help us figure out something that might work. I think we probably did need more time than we had, but I could have rearranged things if I knew we would have access to taxis or busses.
A spectacular first rate ryokan experience. I was a little worried that the property felt a little aged, but not to worry. The rooms are classic and well appointed. The gardens are well worth visiting. And the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both delicious and visually impressive. Our room had a private onsen and I really have no idea how it was such the perfect temperature all the time. We slept well and found the setting very relaxing.

Big and clean rooms in which you can relax and a great private onsen. Very beautiful garden, which is probably even better in summer. The food was also really good, especially the dinner and it was nice that they offered a vegetarian option.

United StatesSome way to have milk after going into onsen, either with a vending machine or stocking it somewhere for purchase.
The pictures don't do the place justice. Everything from meals to rooms to staff were excellent. I didn't even know about the garden until I got to the ryokan. Would definitely recommend to stay here if you're in the area as it's relatively convenient to drive around to/from here. I also believe they have a shuttle service, but I did not make note of it.

United StatesThe rooms are dated. The cabinets in our bathroom were chipped and cracked . The shower are had cracks in concrete and tiles were falling off. I woke up one night to change the temperature in our room because it was too hot. The thermostat didn’t seem to work. When I woke up I found cockroaches walking around on the floor. I killed one with my shoe. I took a picture to prove this happened because I almost asked for a refund and wanted to check out at 3 in the morning. I didn’t tell my wife because I knew she would be upset to hear this. The wine selection was embarrassing. Very little to choose from. The common are for the spa/onsen/hot tub was very old.
Beautiful grounds. The gardens were beautiful. The staff were nice, but not the friendliest. The two gentlemen that helped us with our luggage on arrival and departure acted as though we were an inconvenience to them. The staff at the restaurant and the service were very nice. The quality of the food was good.

United StatesThe bathroom is dirty; one of the sink has lots of short hair from previous guests; one of the haori smells bad and has stain on the collar; In the bedroom the wall paper above both headboards is disgusting; overall the bedroom is very dusty, and the wall paper needs to be replaced; The sakura dinner set is underwhelming, considering the price of the stay is not cheap.
One front staff and one intern were very helpful.

NetherlandsThe booking website only specifies in small letters that the meal should be ordered separately, this is very uncommon in Ryokans. In most, the breakfast and dinner are included. It was almost impossible to find a restaurant nearby. We had to twist the staff hands to include us in the dinner and breakfast - they were also not flexible with dietary requirement - which is the 1st time having such as experience in Japan. I used to live in Japan.
