Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI like everything about this hostel. It's super clean. The owners greeted us with great smiles and excellent hospitality. The location is a bit far away from city centre but the public transport nearby is convenient enough for us to travel to all tourist spots in Tokyo. I recommend spending a day along the Sakura Tram, definitely the hidden gem if you're visiting Tokyo!

GermanyIn the shared bedroom you won't sleep long in the morning, as guests tend to get up early. Helps avoiding the crowds in busy places 😉
A wonderful place in a more local area, the hosts are so friendly, helpful and make the whole stay perfect. Lots of curious and interesting guests as well, so if you are a solo traveler it's perfect to socialize!

United StatesIt was a bit further from train station but that's all.
Hostel owner Nana and her husband were really helpful and friendly. It was really nice to have a conversation with them. The place was really homie and clean. They also provided me with anything I needed and gave me advise on when to leave for the airport as I had an early flight. It was such a nice stay! It was a bit further from train station but I was able to get a glimpse of how the locals live along the little street filled with shops.

Yuta & Nana are so super friendly. They’re willing to help you with everything which was the warmest welcome in Japan I’ve could have wished for. I left very early in the morning and they’ve set up a personal goodbye on a whiteboard. Cutest goodbye ever :) besides all that, everything is very clean. Absolute recommend staying here!

United StatesThe only things I can think of are that the toilet paper is very thin (but there is a bidet in one of the toilets, so toilet paper is not as important) and the walls are thin so you can hear people moving around and talking on the second floor (but people were quite respectful of the quiet hours and talked downstairs mostly, so this was not a big problem).
This is the coziest hostel I have ever stayed in. It is also by far the cleanest. It almost doesn't feel right to call it a hostel. I suppose it's a Rest. It is run by a small family and only has 3 bedrooms, but it has 3 toilet rooms, 2 showers, and 3 outside-of-room sinks, which I never had to wait for and were always remarkably clean. The atmosphere is very relaxing, the furniture is mostly traditional Japanese furniture with sitting tables and bamboo flooring in the private rooms. Yuta also has good choice in relaxing piano music around the lobby area that has a sort of coffee shop vibe. There are a ton of maps on the walls and books explaining local information, not just for Tokyo, but for the local Arakawa neighbourhood too. Nana and Yuta were both very helpful with all of my questions about where to find laundry, certain kinds of food, how train tickets work, and with learning some Japanese phrases. I am really not a city person, but I never felt too stressed in Japan, in a large part because of how welcoming Nana and Yuta were, and how cozy Sato San's Rest felt. The location is about a 50-metre walk from a tram station and a 600-metre walk from a more major subway station. It is in a nice walking mall with plenty of local food and shops, it is 200-metres away from 24-hour coin laundry and a 24-hour convenience store. The neighbourhood itself is peaceful and certainly not touristy. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Akihabara, 30 minutes to get to downtown Tokyo, and 45 minutes to get to Shibuya all by subway.

United StatesThe rooms are comfortable and clean, and the hostel lets out right onto a covered shopping street with great public transit options right around the corner. Nana-san and Yuta-san have a lovely family dynamic that, when combined with the small overall size of the hostel, lends to a very warm social environment amongst the guests. That being said, there’s plenty of space to do your own thing if you’re more reserved. This has probably been my favorite vacation stay ever, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Hong KongExcellent cleanliness. No dust and no smell in the room. The staff Yuta and Nana are very nice and helpful. Great to see their daughter Anna grow up in this warm family. I feel that I am just like one of the family members of this home. Warm and calm neighborhood. Good location, just next to the streetcar Arakawa line. 7-8 minutes walk to metro Minowa station. United StatesI liked all these things, but it’s important to know, the beds are thinner, which is the norm in Japan. But these were quite comfy, it’s just a surprise if you’re coming from many other countries. This is not a party hostel. (Which is great for people not looking for that) There are quiet hours, and it’s not really a good area of the city for going out late anyways since you’ll need the metro to get home. As someone used to sleeping with white noise at home, you’ll want ear plugs. The all hard material construction and the quiet area means that you hear every time a door opens or someone moves in their sleep. (The norm for shared rooms, but be aware)
The owner and her husband are so kind! After a long flight they made me feel at home right away! It is very clean. This was the perfect spot to go back to and relax after a hectic day of exploring the city. It’s in a quiet area of Tokyo, but still has all of the essentials very close. (Phenomenal ramen, sushi, metro, grocery stores, bath house too!) It feels more like a home stay than a hostel, so it’s absolutely perfect if you’re more of the traveling, experiencing culture, type. It’s also easy to get to (one transfer) from Narita, and on the right side of the city for that. Nakamise-dori street, one of my favorite things in Tokyo, is the next district over, and a lot of fun to see. Oh, and their mascot for the hostel is super cute!
