How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Clean, pretty spacious, very nice helpful staff. Great having a washer machine. QR code to translate appliance instructions to English was a plus.

Close to several train stations, convenience stores, dept stores, restaurants galore, Ameyoko, Ueno Park. Comfortable beds in large, quiet room. Deep tub, washer dryer in room. Large TV and great AC. No complaints.

There is no daily cleaning
The room is big enough, clean and new. We love that they allowed us to store one of our luggages when we went to Hokkaido but went back in the hotel when we came back from Tokyo

Loved the size of the well-equipped apartment-hotel. It is well-located near a major train station, but quieter part of town. Walking distance to Ueno park. Lovely, helpful staff.

Great apartment, conveniently located close to multiple public transport lines and multiple convenience stores and restaurants nearby. Akihabara is a 10 minute walk away. Apartment is well furnished, clean and staff is super-friendly.

Nothing. Everything was great
The hotel is modern and nicely decorated. Very clean and with all the facilities you might need (washing machine + dryer was great to have, while travelling). Room bigger than average in Japan. The staff is super friendly and they even organise extra activities for their guests (unfortunately we woke up late and didn't manage to join the special free coffee at a local cafe). The hotel is very close to the metro station in Tokyo Ueno and Ueno park (highly recommended - really beautiful, with lots of temples and it wasn't busy at all when we went). There's also a cute Izakaya with very nice food two steps from the hotel. Overall, we really liked to be in Ueno rather than other (busier) places in Tokyo.

We loved staying at Section L Ueno-Hirokoji. The location was fantastic, close to trains, just around the corner from 2 department stores and great coffee shops. The staff were very helpful. Special mention to Hiro san who was very prompt at helping us track down luggage that we’d left on the platform at Narita. The room was quiet, cosy and a perfect size for 2 adults and 2 children. We loved having our own washing machine in the room and the kitchen was big enough for us to prepare meals in. Happy hour was a tasty bonus on the Saturday night!! I would highly recommend staying here.

Quite small room for our family of 5 but we knew that before staying there.
Great location, clean facilities and the staff were extremely friendly. They even gave my wife a small gift for her birthday. The happy hour was a nice touch too.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The staff also responded quickly to my messages before we arrived. The suite was comfortable, well equipped and very clean. It was my daughter's birthday on the day we left and it was a lovely gesture to give her a small gift.

Nothing was wrong. Everything was perfect! My family and I will definitely come back to Section L Ueno to stay when we visit Japan again for sure!
I love the efficiency and convenience! Japan and Section L is the best! So close to train station, stores, food and shopping! Highly recommend for family especially with kids! Very safe! We had the apartment hotel room and it was such a big space compared to how other hotel in Japan are small. I love that our room came with a washer and dryer in 1, kitchen, sink, microwave, dining and big shower/bath space!

Breakfast is not served by the hotel, but that wasn't a big concern for us, since we had a lot of options elsewhere. It was easier to just buy breakfast and eat in the room, if your family has tours or trips planned for the day.
The rooms were spacious for Tokyo standards. My wife and I had a king sized bed, while our daughters each had a twin sized bed. There was adequate closet space. Kitchen was fully equipped with a ref, stove, toaster oven, kettle, and a microwave, and fully stocked with pots and pans and plates and utensils. The hotel is very near to several train stations, and a lot of restaurants and cafes nearby. There's a McDonald's that opens pretty early, should you need to get started very early, plus a Family Mart at the corner. Free coffee is served every morning at the lobby, as well as drinks on Saturday nights. Access is really easy, you just enter a code to enter your room, as well as the hotel when it's late. The staff was very very helpful, most speak Japanese and English, and they helped us send our luggage from Tokyo to Osaka via Yamato.

Everything was great. There's nothing that wasn't to like.
A lovely place to stay in Ueno. The apartment is very well furnished, clean, modern and comfortable. The location is fantastic, with Okachimachi station only a minute or so away by foot, and Akihabara station only a little further. Contact with the team was flawless - allowing for online check in before arrival. The hosts were all outstanding - exceptionally friendly and helpful at all times, really making us feel welcome. Section-L really does have a friendly approachable style, encouraging us to make contact with fellow travellers. Although it would be easy to self-cater in the apartment, there are plenty of excellent places to eat within a couple of minutes, and there are a number of convenience stores on the doorstep.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The location was very convenient and less than a 5 minute walk from a train station. There was also plenty of terrific food and shopping options in the neighborhood. Our unit also had a washer and dryer which was very helpful.

Close to many JR trains and subway. Very clean facility and helpful staff. Our room had a kitchen, washer&dryer and kitchenette. Very modern and clean. Free cup of coffee each day. Lots of food options close by. Definitely a great stay!
