Mosquitoes in the garden but there are screens on the windows and doors facing the garden. Plus, they provided a plug-in mozzie repellent that really prevented any bites.

Absolutely beautiful property with fantastic service. We grabbed the big family room with the garden view and it was wonderful. Our room attendant was fantastic, she took such great care of us. Dinner was 6 courses, all high quality and very diverse plates. Of course, we liked some flavors more than others but everything was served with such attention to detail it was hard not to be completely impressed. The futons were super comfy, the onsen was great and the en-suite bathroom was huge. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

The shower was awful. Water pressure was horrible and I couldn’t get hot water to run. Major downside considering the price of this place … the walls are also thin and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing.

The property was absolutely stunning and had a beautiful, lush green garden in the back. The staff was amazing and welcoming.

Nothing, everything was perfect

Wow... probably one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in and my only regret is we were only there for one night. Everything was perfection. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff greeted us and were there to help us with anything we needed. The room was stunning and so spacious. The in-room kaiseki dinner was a highlight of our visit to Kyoto. The ryokan is located in a great area and within walking distance to many sights and attractions. The sento was a treat after a long day of exploring. I would stay here again without hesitation and I highly recommend this ryokan to anyone who wants an elevated, traditional ryokan experience.

I think the private bath in my room had a leak as it wouldn't fill up and would slowly empty to a certain point. Not their fault and I'm not mad about it. I still enjoyed my bath :) I didn't like that there was minimal privacy on the right side of the garden when looking outside. Left side had a cover but caught neighbour watching me taking photos of the garden from his room on the right. Small issues that I cannot blame anyone for (except for the nosey neighbour). I really enjoyed this Ryokan.

The room was comfortable, there was a separate area by the door where I could keep by luggage and close the sliding door so I didn't have to look at my big suitcase. The garden was beautiful and I was able to open to door to take great photos. The service was exceptional and everyone seemed genuinely happy to help with luggage, taking your shoes for storage, set up the bed, find an extra pillow in the night time, set up breakfast at the table, etc.

If you are not looking for an authentic, ryokan experience then pass. What surprised me is how I didn’t feel like there was much of a trade-off between staying there and having a more western style hotel experience.

This was a truly exquisite experience. The staff and their welcoming, warm ways were a complete stand out of the entire trip. We loved every moment there. It gave me the tiniest glimpse into what the Japanese lifestyle may have been decades ago. The duvet comforters on the bed completed a fabulous experience.I feel touched by how warm and welcoming each and every ‘staff’ member was. I put ‘staff’ in quotations, because it felt more like family. We felt like family from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Magical. We stayed at a more modern, Western style hotel after this, which was also wonderful. However, I would have stayed two nights, versus one, had I known how wonderful this place would be. I feel truly appreciative to have had the experience!

Absolutely nothing.

The hotel was so beautifully decorated. All the historical value involved would make us feel so warm. The staff was absolutely amazing. There are no words to describe people that make you feel like they’re family to the point they walk you out and see you out until you’re out of sight (that was so cute). The way they would know we were coming back before we even realized it. Or the way they knew which sneaker was whose. That was otherworldly. The food was also something incredible, perfect and cooked with so much care. Our room keeper was amazing, making everything perfect and being so fun and kind. The location was just outstanding, right next to a subway station and close to a zillion shops and cool dining places. We will definitely come back. That money was 100% worth it. I hope this ryokan lasts for many more centuries on top of its 193 years.

We got a room in the souterrain, which was large but had no real windows so felt very dark and at night we felt the metro going by everything was shaking. Would not have wanted to stay another night. Ryokan was very historic but as noted by others cultivates a bit of a tacky style; could use a refresh. Onsen was ok (but again no view or anything special). Overall a great experience for one night but not really worth the outrageous price.

We had an amazing stay at Seikoro Ryokan. This place is a window to a Japan of the past. The service, the rooms, the garden, and the dinner and breakfast was truly unforgettable. It's simply incredible that this place have managed to stay unchanged and survive all this time. We will cherish our stay for a long time. Everything was very good.

Customised experience with a full dedicated room attendant that served us the dinner and the breakfast directly in the room. Warm welcome with Japanese tea. No shoes allowed in the premises. Public bathroom with no queue and no other people, used as a private one. Close to the temple and to the bus stop.
