Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelToilet without washlet. Mosquito nets are broken. The stairs are a bit dangerous, especially if you have old people or kids.
Good location, old but surprisingly clean. Has some character to it.

JapanThe location is not so good because we had to climb a hill without street lights. The heater takes time to heat up.
The price is good. The room is comfortable to stay for short days. There is hot water if you turn on the monitor. The facilities are also enough.

JapanIf you have lots of luggage and very small children it might not be ideal. It is located on a steep hill and there is a long flight of stairs that could be a challenge to some ( but great for exercising). We were confused where to park but figured it out.
Great value, woke up and saw the tip of Mount Fuji and a great view of Lake Ashi. There were good amenities too. Clean. Very roomy and spacious and had a nice heater to stay warm in the evening. Very quiet neighborhood. Great Value for its location adjacent to all the many great spots for sightseeing in the area.

AustraliaThe 49 steep steps! And the information on the advert not providing important points like unsuitable for some people, with kids, heavy luggage etc. No lighting at night so quite dangerous. Recommend take a taxi up the hill to the house, short but would make life easier, ok to walk down to the lake. The fluorescent light in bedroom is alarming, buy another lamp. Very limited amenities. Please fix up the rear garden, it's a disttaction, or probably not mention it. Overall though cute factor, the steps are a workout, which is tiresome when you forget something.
The Motohakone location its a great starting point for using the Hakone Free pass, fun to do the roundtrip. Liked the retro decor, boat-like bathroom. Liked the view and proximity to bus and lake Ashi. Once you get in it feels authentic. Best tiramisu since Floerence honeymoon 20yrs ago from the Italian pizza (also yum) restaurant by the water what a great find!

CambodiaA high hill and steep steps to get to the room. No WiFi available and no warm shower. Had the coldest shower. Luckily we stayed only for two nights. We recommend going to an onsen.
Could see mount fuji and the lake from our window.

United KingdomThere was no WiFi. Very limited kitchen utensils (eg no cups/mugs). It’s a bit of a trek up the hill, so pick up any supplies in town before you do the climb.
Great value, super cute appartement with a beautiful view.

United KingdomKitchen utensils are very limited but there is enough to make basic food. Bathroom is clean but the shower is pretty poor - not much pressure and not very hot but still worth it for the location and value for money.
Excellent location in the center of everything. A little quirky to find but google maps worked great (go up the second set up steps with the yellow arrow, not the first). Check in was easy with the lock box code. Views were beautiful and everything was very clean and comfortable. Great value for money.

New ZealandIf you’re traveling without a car do not stay at this property as it is at the top of a hill with quite icy roads to climb up (during winter months) moreover the apartment itself took about two hours to warm up using what is given to you making for quite a cold start to your holiday. The property manager is also not the nicest as I was falsely accused of not putting the key back in the lockbox and taking it with me which is not true. Then I was sent a picture of a random suitcase asking if it was mine (which is was not). But it’s cheap accommodation so what more can you ask for.
The location is alright with a close walk to Heiwa no Torii where you can beat the morning crowds

New ZealandNothing that I like about this property, It was horrible experience. The location is deep in the wood and serious no parking and the only way to get to this property is by car but they don't have any parking and the road is super narrow, we were forced to park along the street. We enter the property around 7pm , it's quite dark , no road light ,it's impossible to see the sign of this property, we were confused in the dark and coldness, The entrance of this property is steep stairs and dark, we needed light from our phone o proceed to the room. The room was made for 2 pp only 2 futons ( which we found hair on the bed, luckily there were extra futon on the closet but dirty and no cover and no pillows.

JapanI could smell mold and humidity. Not too much but since I'm a bit allergic to it I am quite sensitive to it. The steep road and stairs aren't for everyone. We knew upfront and we love doing exercise so there was no problem there.
Decoration and facilities were great. We were very comfortable there. The view from the window is beautiful.
