Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaFor the shoes, I think it might be better if they have a rack (with switchable indoor shoes) since it's easy to stumbled into other guest shoes + slippers in the dark, considering the space.
Easy and cheap bicycle rental. You really want to use this to explore Kanazawa The bar space is empty enough that you can use it to study or work. Plug ports are available. Free towels, coffee/tea within arms reach in the bar

We had such a wonderful stay here! A cosy and funky Japanese style inn. Very small hotel but the rooms were big enough. Also there was a projector for watching movies, which was awesome! The host was extremely helpful and gave us great advice regarding which onsens to go to, etc. We we're here at Christmas, and it was so thoughtful of Taka to leave us little Christmas cakes and a Merry Xmas note. Would wholeheartedly recommend staying here for a comfortable and welcoming stay in Kanazawa :)

ItalyThe only complaint is the size of the room. I feel there was very little space for luggage and there are no lockers.
Little hostel with a nice bar at the front. The position is good and the owner is great.

CanadaOur view was a bit funny (a bit of a used car lot) but on the other hand we could open the window to the quiet sound of rain. We had one of the two upstairs rooms and shared a common toilet and sink with a family of 4—however we never waited and the toilet and wash area were exceptionally clean. (Our room had its own shower.)
The location was central, yet very quiet. The room was very clean and although not large, had enough room for two. The futon beds were comfortable and the bedding cosy. Toiletries were generous in their size and variety. It was handy to be able to buy beer on the remixes and the complimentary coffee or tea was a bonus. We opted for breakfast for our two days’ stay and both times there was variety and lovely presentation (as well as being tasty). We paid in advance for breakfast but you may be able to reserve the day before. There are several charming decorative touches which add to the personality of the place. Great service and communication from a dedicated guy!

FranceNothing to complain about. Not the most accessible friendly place but this is due to the location.
The location is really convenient. Taka our host was really helpful and lovely to deal with. We were able to leave our luggage for the afternoon after our booking while we were on a day trip.

FranceI had a fantastic experience at Sharin! The capsules are spacious, there are not many of them so it is quiet, clean and comfortable. It was super nice to interact with Takahiro, the owner of Sharin. He gave me great advice for visiting kanazawa and even warned me that an awesome firework was scheduled one night (no information about that in tourism office, this was a very local experience). The bar of Sharin is opened only on Friday and Saturday and that was a great experience as well: I have met a few kanazawa locals and Takahiro helped me in traducing a few phrases to improve the exchange. The bar closes at 10pm so no worries, this activity will not trouble your nights. I also had great interactions with other travellers in the dormitory: small place like Sharin tend to foster exchanges as you feel more at home.

Germany- the only thing I can think of is, that I would have preferred a real bathroom, the shower room is part of the dorm room and you share it with your three roommates but the sink and toilette is outside of the dorm…it makes sense to have it like that since it’s a small place so I’m not really complaining :)
- it was very cosy - close enough to all interesting sites and only a few minutes away from the main train station - free and fresh towels everyday - a bar (wasn’t used while I was there) - bicycle rental (500 yen) - Taka the owner is not there the whole time, so it’s best to let him know when you will be arriving - if you like small guest houses/ hostels you will enjoy your time, the hostel only has 10 bed in total

It was a lot of fun meeting and talking with people downstairs at the bar area. We would definitely stay again. Thank you for having us!

GermanyWe had a very nice stay in Sharin! The owner is super attentative (even paid attention to allergies) and kind and likes to talk with the guests, share his knowledge, listen to their stories, and make them feel at home. The hostel is spotted with many small details that show the owner has travelled himself and knows what one needs to have a good time when travelling (e.g., free coffee and tea, charger for Android and iPhone, Good WiFi, tips for restaurants, free earplugs, good shampoo and other products, bike rental,...). The hostel is great value for money, every Yen worth it. Lastly, the Japanese breakfast (800Y) the owner majes for you is outstanding and belongs to one of those meals we have enjoyed most in Japan. If we ever come back to Kanazawa, this is the place for us.
