I didn’t stay long enough to note anything.

It was such a quiet and peaceful place. The decor was just incredible. It felt very much like a cozy spa retreat. If I wasn’t so poor I would’ve stayed there so much longer!

    Can't imagine any such thing!

I would take a year's sabbatical to stay at this inn. The serenity, the privacy, the thoughtfulness of the staff were all exemplary. Then there are the amenities to be considered--the onsen baths (one with a mountain view, the other with a city view), the roof sitting area which is a candlelit oasis at night. The breakfast is a well-thought out blend of Western and Oriental foods. Coffee is excellent. So is the house gin. There are a couple of izakayas within a very short distance which are terrific. No English spoken but the food and staff are wonderful. One should not leave the inn without buying a set of the very soft and comfortable lounge pj's. Japanese sandals are also available. This beautiful ryokan defies expectations.

Not much storage/closet/drawer space in the room. No hooks or hangers to dry used towels. Breakfast was top quality, healthy and painstakingly prepared but not enough to feed a hungry teenager.

Very modern and high quality facilities. Room was on the smaller side compared to the image but well laid out. Staff spoke English well and showed excellent hospitality. Loved the outdoor bath on the rooftop (have to be booked in advance). Free minibar, green tea/coffee and unlimited water bottles were a nice touch. Microwave in the room. Freshly washed and ironed pajamas were provided daily. Natura Bisse amenities were an extra plus. Location is right next to Higashiyama subway station and within 2 minutes from bus lines that go through the main tourist attractions.

Wonderful place to call home base while in Kyoto

If you plan to work, the Wi-Fi strength is not great. Also, my room was directly below the outdoor baths and you could hear water swishing around during bath hours. A few other nits--one blind in the room did not stay open due to a frayed cord and the hair dryer handle did not lock in the open position.

Wonderful staff and lovely property in an area well served by transit. Enjoyed the spacious room, ability to cook, outdoor bath, and traditional tatami area. The pajamas, slippers, socks, and bath baskets were a nice, welcoming touch. Above all, the staff was the most amazing and attentive that I have ever encountered. If I could give a half rating, I would rate this inn a 9.5.

    nothing!

this is one of the most beautiful boutique hotels you could stay in in kyoto!!! exceeded our expectations! our room was super spacious, with a living area, private japanese garden, comfortable beds, a kitchenette... we also used the onsen which you can book for private use and it was a nice way to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The breakfast is mostly plant based (salad and vegetables) which may feel a bit strange for some people, but we absolutely loved it - especially with its locally sourced and seasonal ingredients!

    Can’t fault it.

Amazing and beautiful room design with such brilliant service from the staff. Usually 5*’s are stuck up and don’t care about their guest but this place does. HIGHLY recommend. Also conveniently places near top train stations.

    Nothing

    1. The location. There was a bus stop near the hotel that has buses connected to a lot of the tourist attractions. Additionally, the hotel was located a few mins from the train station with a lift option so there was no need to drag my luggage up the stairs. 2. The bed was very comfortable like clouds. 3. Room was big compared to other hotels in Japan and has a traditional Japanese design 4. It was heartwarming that the host would give us a brief introduction to our hotel room and there was a welcome note with my surname written on it.

Very attentive and gracious staff - true masters of high-end service. Larger than expected rooms compared to most other places we stayed in Japan. Great connection to the rest of the city through trains and buses. The breakfast was astonishingly good. The overall feel is a hybrid between a traditional japanese accommodation (ryokan) and a Western hotel. The additional attention to service and surroundings might not be for everyone, but we appreciated it very much.

I don't have anything negative to say about this place. It was hands down a lovely experience from beginning to end.

This was one of the loveliest places I've ever stayed. The staff is genuinely warm and helpful. They go above and beyond every step of the way to not only make you feel at home but also cared for. The breakfast, which I had twice during my stay, was delicious and healthy. The outdoor bath was an absolute dream, especially first thing in the morning. And the rooftop terrace is so peaceful and offers such a unique view of Kyoto. I enjoyed my stay so much that I'm going back to Kyoto for one night during this trip just to stay here again.

It is the same breakfast every day, and the bread is very tasty, but it could get a little repetitive if you are staying for a long period of time.

Everything was great about the hotel. The room is very clean and spacious, do note that it does not have a TV, but it wasn't an issue for me at all. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. It is very close to one of the train stations, but also Kyoto is fairly small, so you could technically walk anywhere. It is not cheap, but I would totally stay here again next time.
