The quantity of food was too much for this 72 year old American. I was overwhelmed and felt bad for the wasted food. It seemed the idea was to showcase the many varieties of food offerings, which you accomplished. But it was way too much.

This place is luxury personified. The hotel is stunning. Very Japanese. The baths are amazing. We had one in our room that was fantastic. The food was beyond description. The best part was the young woman who took care of us. She was delightful, funny, attentive, so patient with our Japanese failures (many), our food tastes. We laughed a lot. She was beyond exceptional. We walked around the area which was also fun.

Absolutely wonderful! It was our first time at a ryokan and it exceeded our expectations by a wide margin. The tatami room was fantastic, the atmosphere making you never want to leave. The outdoors onsen was soo relaxing, and open 24/7 so there was no problem having your evening- midnight and early morning bath! We did not have the dinner experience, but the breakfast was absolutely spectacular. Local, seasonal cuisine that tasted divine, set up in a traditional Japanese room. Staff was very helpful, even though they spoke rather limited English, and a shuttle bus picked us up and left us at the bus stop. If you're around Morioka, definitely give this place a visit!

I feel like I was waited on hand and foot since arriving. The staff was amazing and the hotel itself is beautiful! They also had a shuttle to the bus station so it was easy to get there. And the food, and the hot spring bath...it was all so nice!

I can't think of anything that could have been better.

Meals were incredible, the staff waited on our every need the entire stay. Five course gourmet meals for dinner and a more than hearty breakfast every morning. We went with our kids and our youngest is 11 months old. They have us everything and more to make sure our kids had fun too. Honestly, our experience far exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be coming back!!

The location is a bit far from the city centre, but it’s not unexpected as it’s in the Tsunagi onsen area.

The property and facilities were all very comfortable, clean and cosy. The staff were all exceptionally professional and helpful and good at communication. In particular, the staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help me liaise and retrieve a pair of gloves from a restaurant that I had accidentally left.

There isn’t a thing we disliked! If we absolutely had to pick one thing, it was not the fault of the property, but the bus system! We were a little distressed not knowing where we got dropped off based on the information the train station gave us, but even then, the hotel sent a car to pick us up from where we were!

The property is absolutely stunning and all the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our entire group had an amazing time and the hotel and it’s a shame that I can’t rate them any higher!

Amazing and welcoming hospitality throughout the entire stay. All the staff were very friendly and dedicated, explaining everything to us in detail. They even provided free transport to the neighbouring cultural show, as well as the nearby bus stop to go back into the city.

It is a very convenient that there’s indoor spring pool. The food was very good, we stayed 2 nights, and they changed the menu. I even think they upgraded. I love traditional spring hotel. The service is person to person feel very warm.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. You won't have any problems even if you don't speak Japanese. The shared bath was very nice but the highlight for me was the private onsen, going in and out of the onsen while enjoying the night sky all night was a really nice experience. The food was exceptional, both dinner and breakfast.

I initially walked to the hotel from the bus stop (not very far), but I took a wrong turn due to lack of signage directing me to the hotel. I recommend coordinating for them to pick you up at the bus stop, if possible, but there is a map at that bus stop. Take a photo of it on your smartphone if you decide to walk it like i did.

LOVED the staff and service level! LOVED the food service and the Bath facilities! This place is a living work of Traditional Japanese Artistry. The staff (with the help of translation app) did a great job of welcoming me and with helping me to acclimate. The chef made such wonderful meals, and kudos to Kyoka (and the other ladies) who served those meals. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the open air bath in my suite (I highly recommend the experience), but I also enjoyed the mens public bath (indoor and open air) as often as I could. I will definitely be back, and I recommend this place which was the highlight of my Japan visit!

Nothing. It is a little off the beaten path but there is a direct bus from Morioka and the staff will pick you up from the bus stop if you choose not to walk for 5 minutes.

Absolute attention to every detail. We travelled from Kyoto all the way to Shikitei because we hoped it would be a memorable experience in a traditional Ryokan. It did not disappoint. Every staff member was extremely helpful, the food was outstanding, the room was spotless and our private open air onsen was to die for. They were also very accommodating for our one year old son, providing toys, baby yukata, and a variety of meals. Shikitei was the highlight of our 17 day trip to Japan.

The staff were all so friendly and helped me figure out my first ryokan. The food was incredible. The room was mostly quiet, though you might hear the next door room if they're loud, but overall a very peaceful room and facilities. Morning walks in the town are relaxing. I didn't see much in terms of shops or nightlife, but the scenery was great. It's ~35 minutes by bus from Morioka train station. Getting to and from Tsunagi onsen is convenient but be mindful of the bus schedule as the last bus is pretty early in the evening.
