Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great ryokan! Nice breakfast and room condition, and especially onsen is the best. We were only guests in our stay, so they provide private onsen. It was very special experience.

CanadaIt’s about a 20 minute walk from Hakuba station. However they did mention I could have called and requested for a pickup - oops!
Great spot for a solo traveller to relax before conquering a mountain the next day. English-speaking workers who greeted me with kindness and nice conversations. Also provided recommendations for places nearby to eat and a possibility for a Tsugaike ropeway discount. FYI, it is only a few mins away from the bus terminal which is great too. Onsen was small (can fit maybe 4-5 folks?) but it wasn’t busy at all when I went! I was allowed to go in with a tattoo as it’s a “less busy” time, so it should be ok. I added breakfast with my reservation which was also great (though there was a huge pot of rice that one person can definitely NOT finish!) I also got to leave a bag with them for a night as I went and hiked for a night in the mountain & didn’t want to lug all my stuff. All in all, a fantastic stay - thank you for everything!

Hong KongWe had a great experience and enjoyed the stay very much. The location is great as it's quite close to the bus terminal and convenient store. It just took a short walk to some famous spots. The hotel also sold entrance tickets. The room we had is spacious, clean and comfortable with a nice mountain view. The onsen was great and hot enough. We had different breakfast set everyday and they were all delicious which gave us a good start. The hosts were super helpful and friendly. They updated us the weather and introduced us to the famous spots. They are all best choices. We have missed nothing! We highly recommend this place and would definitely stay in this hotel when we visit Hakuba again. :)

United StatesThere was no shower in our room, but we knew that ahead of time and honestly the onsen was so comfortable this was not an issue for us. They also have private showers but we didn’t try them!
The hotels staff was incredibly kind and so helpful getting us settled in. The room was incredibly traditional and welcoming and my girlfriend and I especially enjoyed the fresh tea every day. Our room had a beautiful Mountain View and was a short walk to happo one where I was able to snowboard even at the end of March. Because it was off season though, the property was very quiet and this allowed us to enjoy the onsen without other guests.

United StatesAmazing Japanese hospitality and very knowledgeable hosts. I was originally planning on snowboarding at Happo One but because conditions were not great, they recommended Hakuba Goryu and it was a perfect day on the mountain. Hosts were also able to recommend a great dinner spot which capped off a great stay. Looking forward to coming back to Hakuba and staying again!

AustraliaNothing to fault.
It was a beautiful and quiet stay with views of the Haluba mountains. The concierge staff (Yuya and Nicola) were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make our trip to and from the accommodation easier. They were always so helpful! Breakfast was also beautiful with great ion portion sizes. We were always so full!

Great location close to the Happo Bus Terminal and the nearby Lawson. Also a 20 minute walk into town where there are a few more food options and some good shopping locations. The staff were also incredibly friendly and the breakfast was great. Unlike other hotels around (we stayed in another popular hotel in Hakuba), this one felt incredibly spacious and calming. As a couple it was great staying here away from the young families and crowd. Onsen was also a big bonus but this one runs much hotter than the usual.

SingaporeWe had to book 2 rooms via booking.com but the large triple one could have been enough for us 5. Not really the fault of the ryokan.
The staff was really helpful, they came to collect the luggage when we were skiing and helped us book a restaurant for 10 (we had friends in Hakuba as well). The dinner and breakfast were excellent and even too copious! The futons and blankets were really comfortable, our best night in Hakuba! There is a ski room and a drying room for gloves and shoes.
