Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceReally nothing!
Very very nice typical Japanese ryokan remotely located next to a temple : amazing setting! The dinners and breakfasts were outstanding. The first dinner was fully veggie (pilgrim requirement perhaps) and delicious, then they asked us if we eat fish and meat, then had also fish and meat dishes. The ryokan-keepers were so kind and helpful to help us locate the place. Because, it is very remote and GPS coordinates not that accurate.

CanadaHeavenly meals. Very kind staff. Gorgeous view. The location is hidden between the mountains next to a beautiful temple. Since it is not accessible by public transportation, they offer services to and from the station. They also drove us to the Adachi Museum.

AustraliaEverything was great. The toilets were nearby and rarely had anyone in them.
This is a traditional ryokan which has great food and really lovely staff. We were so well taken care of. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and varied on each of the 3 days that we stayed. Our room was spacious and had a delightful sitting area. The location within the temple grounds was beautiful. We were picked up and dropped back at Yasugi train station, as well as the Adachi museum. Highly recommended.

Great dinner service with lots of food. Vegetarian but was superb with alot of effort put into it. Breakfast was non-vegetarian and tasty. Service was good. As expected of a ryokan so don’t expect 5 star hotel quality but definitely comfortable and clean.

ThailandTypical Japanese small family guesthouse. The location is incredible, in the middle of an ancient cedar forest and a few steps from a very beautiful temple. The room is large and comfortable. Upon arrival there will be a staircase to climb, which is the same that leads to the temple, the walk is really very beautiful even at night but it must be considered according to the luggage. The experience worths the stair

CanadaThe weather was cool and damp but we warmed up in the lovely hot bath. We would have loved to stay longer!
All of the meals were amazing! This was Shujin Ryori at its finest! We could not have asked for better. The tatami rooms were beautiful with lovely views of the temples and trees. The hotel is set inside the temple complex within a forest of very tall old cedars and bamboo on a mountainside. The air was fresh and clean. It was quiet and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and offered to drive us to the Adachi Museum of Art. We preferred to relax in the forest with the peace and quiet.

SingaporeFirstly, becoz it is remote, google map did not guide me to the entrance best to get to the hotel. It will be good for the hotel management to provide a map for drivers to get there. I'd self-drove there. If you have heavy or much luggage do be prepared to carry them up a flight of steps of at least 200 m from the car park The bathroom has no lock from the inside. This gives a disconcerted feeling whilst having my bath.
The hotel is remotely located. It is really a getaway into some forested resident. I'm sure even in summer season this place will still be rather cool. The ambience surrounding is aesthetic. The food, although vegetarian, is very beautifully presented and the taste is out of anything I have tasted of vegetarian food. If I'm compelled to become vegetarian, I will have no complaints if the food is served by them. The service staff although limited in numbers were very courteous and pleasant.

Japan100% recommend! Wonderful historic property, nicely secluded in the hills, with beautiful traditional features and calming view of the surrounding forest and temple. The family owners were more than accommodating and so kind and friendly, going above and beyond to help us make the most of our short stay. The meals were also phenomenal and some of the best we’ve had in our 6 years in Japan! Thank you so much, we hope we can visit again!

United StatesNot exactly “Didn’t like.” Better to say “know.” Very rustic, very isolated. WAY out in the country. You must take a taxi from the station. A 10-15 minute drive. Great silent retreat setting if that’s what you’re wanting. Minimal hiking trails. Very forested. In the mountains. Community toilet. Sink in room bor toothbrushing. No hot water in room.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Nice bath. Rates very reasonable. Food the first night was enough for two persons. Much better subsequently when I requested less. Gelato and coffee shop with lattes 150m from Yasugi train station.
