Breakfast could be better - Japanese style only, hard for our appetite Also, Japanese style sleeping is not for everyone

The venue itself is stunning, an old Samurai house, very ancient and cool. The staff were incredible, very attentive to every request- including building an entire vegetarian menu (!!!) with local ingredients for my wife (we did notify beforehand). The food overall in the dinners was outstanding, we stayed for two nights and had two completely different dishes. The private onsen was amazing, just what you need after a long day out.

It was a bit hard to find even with GPS

The house is a beautiful traditional Japanese house with a shared onsen bath and a private one that you can book for free. The room is clean and cozy with a window looking out to a Japanese garden. Food was exceptional! We were served homemade miso soup and home grown rice which were absolutely delicious. The meals also include many local ingredients and dishes like horse meat, local beef, trout and seasonal veggies. Highly recommended if you want a traditional ryokan experience 👍

It’s very comfortable with original ryokan atmosphere. Food was excellence both dinner and breakfast. You need car to get there but it’s worth it.

. The road to the location is a bit narrow for a big MPV but manageable.

This is my second time staying at Syukubo Aso. The staffs are friendly with attention to detail. We feel very comfortable. The homemade dinner and breakfast are still the best. We are amazed and enjoyed the dinner. The location is located in small local neighbourhood and is nice to take a evening walk.

Supposed that Japanese Ryokan will make the beds while we had dinners in the dining area, but there wasn’t any. We have to make our own beds after back to room. This was a surprise.

The almost 3 hours drive from Hakata city.

The location is in the inland country side. Not many stores or shops nearby. Not even Family mart. But the place itself was fantastic.

Be mindful of payment in cash. Also we struggled to find the Ryokan, we should have paid more attention to the wooden signs along the way with arrows.

We loved our stay in this traditional ryokan and the very attentive staff made it feel very homely and welcoming. Our room was cozy, the dinner and breakfast were delicious (and they very kindly accommodated our vegetarian request), and the highlight of our stay was a private onsen we could book without any additional charge.

Location appeared in Google Map but it led us to a very narrow road, almost inaccessible by car. Car park was provided but slightly narrow. Too bad the kashikiri hot spring was limited and fully booked, so we didn't get to try.

A very well maintained, heartwarming traditional Japanese ryokan! Welcomed by friendly lady owner and room was very big for two people. Dinner and breakfast were superb, many homemade pickles and fresh vegetables. Hot spring was small but hot enough to relieve fatigue. Enjoyed the foods and hotspring! Fully recharged after the stay.

Historical building! (300 years old) Nice dinner and breakfast Friendly staff You can reserve a slot to use the small onsen privately (of course you can use the public big onsen anytime also)

The overall experience of staying in a ryokan with onsen, dinner and breakfast included and clothed on Japanese yukata give us taste of what it was like in a Japanese home. Upon our arrival, we were welcome with Japanese tea and dessert. It certainly sets the tone of our stay and warms our heart.

The Japanese style bedding, but that's on me. I'm not used to it so my back hurts.

The onsen bath is a bit small, only one set of shower so family members have to take turn.

The food was delicious especially rice & veggie. The property was warm and homey. The landlady was so nice and helped us a lot. Many many thanks!

Apart from the onsen being very small, nothing. It was a very enjoyable stay.

Location was a little difficult to find as it was located down some really small roads. But there were signages along the way to guide us. The exterior of the ryokan was very quaint. We booked a tatami room for four of us, including dinner and breakfast. It was a small ryokan with not many rooms, but very warm service. The meals were very lavish! The onsen facilities were a bit small, but since the ryokan was small, it wasn't really crowded. I think most guests chose to use the private onsen which you could book in advance.
