Transportation: There is a nearby bus station but that bus line is NOT included in the Hakone Pass - very inconvenient! The nearest bus station inlcuding the Hakone Pass is about 1 km down the hill. You have to walk around 20 min through a forest on a stone path. The most convenient transport is the nearby Ropeway (Hakone Pass), but the last ride is already around 16:00 at Ashi Lake, so you can't use it in the evening, which is super inconvenient. You are basically obliged to be at the Ryokan around 16:30/17:00 if you don't want to take an expensive taxi or very inconvenient bus rides. Around the hotel: There is nothing at all around the hotel, so get your food and all you need at a convenience store before you go up there. Restaurants around Ashi lake are quite expensive, double as usual, so buying bentos at the convenience stores is recommended. (non-)Services in the hotel: - Breakfast is not automatically included. You have to pay exra before booking your stay. It's around 1500 yen per person. - There is a hotel restaurant for dinner, but you pay extra obviously and not cheap at all. - It's quite bad that guests can't use the table tennis or karaoke room for free. The stay isn't cheap (~80 € per night without breakfast) and I think this should be included. Or at least at a much cheaper price. - They also have the stupid rule that guests who don't eat dinner at their restaurant are not allowed to purchase a bottle of wine to drink in their rooms. The wine is super expensive anyways, 3000 yen.

The Hotel is a big nice looking Ryokan with several floors, a huge reception and dining area. - Nice spacious traditional tatami rooms (washitsu) with floor chairs and comfortable futons. Kettle, TV, airconditoning/ heating, a bit of tea included - Nice view from the hotel room to Mount Fuji. - Quiet day and night - You get to wear Yukatas for free. - Free Onsen in the basement, which is nice and not too hot. So good for foreigners who are not used to bathing that hot. - Massage chair for back and for feet available for 100 yen per 10 minutes. - There is a table tennis table in the basement, which costs extra. Around 500 yen per 30 min. - Karaoke room available for a lot of money. - Non-alcoholic drink vending machine available

Great service at the reception desk, the restaurant manager was also very polite and helpful during my stay. Facilities were very good; though having a public bathroom (which is shared as part of the onsen) was a bit strange at first; though i'm glad it was as it gave me an excuse to enjoy the amazing outdoor onsen. The room and facilities were exceptionally clean during my stay with not a single mark in sight. The futons and sheets were clean, no issues. Staying in a traditional japanese room before, I must say that the room was very big; and having the space, as well as the window view of fuji made the experience infinitely better and more comfortable. The location of the resort is perfect; being just round the corner from a bus station. Though I would suggest finding some snacks during the day to bring back, as the restaurant was closed when I came down to eat.

The location is a bit remote (like other resorts in this area), so the only choice for dinner is in the hotel restaurant (3,300¥/ person). Or you could also bring your own dinner. Check-in time is at 15:30, before that there was no staff around. The staff are very nice although not very responsive if you contacted them from Booking.com messenger.

Very comfortable & clean, the price is competitive compared to other hot-spring hotel in Hakone (with breakfast included). It’s not so big, there were only few people staying there, so it was quiet and nice retreat experience. Located 3 mins walk from Ubako bus stop / ropeway station, Shiki resort has modern building with two onsen (indoor & outdoor). We could walk down 20 mins to Togendai station to take boat to Motohakone and visit the shrine (highly recommended). We also had big tatami room and the cherry on top is the view of Mt. Fuji from our room! I had the best sleep ever in this resort! Will definitely come back and stay longer.
