Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing everything was perfect! It is important to know that there are some steep steps to get up to get to your room so if you have problems with this bear this in mind.
The property it is incredibly clean and well maintained in its fantastic traditional structure. The hosts are super friendly and sweet. Although their main language it is not English they do their best to fully communicate with you. You book your time for breakfast, dinner and the bath( which is private to you and your party). The room was very cool and super comfortable. The food was delicious and it felt like a feast all the time. I couldn’t recommend it more.

United StatesThey don't see many English language speakers & having just reached Japan 2 nights before, my nihongo skills were were not in focus, so that could be a difficultly. It is an older building with somewhat steep stairs, which some might find difficult.
The ofuro was very nice and the in-room toilet was appreciated. The meals were fantastic & they were not busy, so we had great service in a private dining room"! They were very helpful with storing our luggage while we did sightseeing. There was snow overnight and it was beautiful to see on the trees in their small garden. A very enjoyable experience for my husband and I.

AustraliaEverything was great BUT breakfast and dinner can be difficult to eat if you're a picky eater. But best to try and experience as their meals is what they're known for in the small town. The price of our 2 night stay was quite high, but that is to be expected of a ryokan-like stay.
Breakfast and dinner were very good and a memorable experience. A lot of the locals were jealous that we were staying at this hotel! You will need to be strong and willing to try (and possibly finish your meals) with interesting pickled vegetables and traditional Japanese meals that's not your typical city meals. We had a choice of when we had to use the hot onsen which was nice to share with my partner. Although it was more of a Giant bathtub with hot water, still nice though! We also had a private bathroom in our room if we wanted to Shower privately, which we didn't end up using anyway (because of our scheduled bathing was great and clean), Lile other comments said, the ladies were very kind and try their best to communicate and serve you with their limited English. Please do follow their check in terms so that your stay is pleasant!

Australia-
Wonderful hotel! All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. The twin beds are firm and the bedding was nice and warm for winter. The bathroom in the room is compact and functional, and there was the option of the private bath downstairs. The food was outstanding- the taste and presentation was incredible! Be prepared for a full stomach as everything was delicious! The breakfast rice bowl (plus the other dishes) was the best way to start the day, and coming back in the evenings for a home cooked meal was very relaxing and special. I hope to come back one day.

Lovely building and interior. Comfortable, peaceful and welcoming. Easy walk from the station and a short stroll from town. Half board dining was exceptional. Excellent hosts.

Vibes were immaculate. - I could not think of a better accomodation to start our trip to yamagata, I loved the well kept traditional inn features, the food. Everything

AustraliaThe food was delicious, plentiful and allowed us to try traditional cuisine as well as some new foods we hadn't tried before. An open mind is required for some of the sashimi's. The futon beds were very comfortable and the bathing room was amazing. The hostesses were so friendly and helpful, we were travelling with our 10 month old and they all loved him and were understanding when he was loud at times. We would love to stay here again in the future. Knowing basic Japanese or using Google translate is highly recommended if visiting this accomodation.

- Very charming ryokan conveniently situated within walking distance from the JR Nanokamachi station and in close proximity to attractions like the Noguchi Hideyo Seishun Street and the Suehiro Sake Brewery. - The meals (dinner and breakfast) were the highlight of my stay. Having told the staff in advance that I had food allergies, they went above and beyond to servemeals for me that were safe for me to eat but also very delicious. The variety of dishes served was impressive. The staff also offered to create onigiri (rice balls) out of my unfinished breakfast. - The staff were very warm and accommodating and their interactions with guests contributed to the ryokan's very homely atmosphere. As a thoughtful gesture they gave me an akabeko keychain upon checkout as a souvenir - The private hinoki bath was a delight (note: you have to book it in advance during check-in) - The futon in my room was exceptionally fluffy and I slept really well

HungaryAbsolutely incredible place to experience traditional ryokan-style stay. The staff were over-the-top, never before seen kind, patient, welcoming to us, while being professional and flexible. The place is beautiful and well equipped to keep us warm on the chilly Aizu nights, and the breakfast was culinary masterpiece. The staff were even kind enough to make us takeaway onigiri from the rice we couldnt finish. Overall an amazing experience, I recommend anyone to come here, and I thank all the kind staff for their lovely hospitality, cant wait to come back!
