Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoMaybe the only thing that could be better is the room I stayed in, it is not fully sealed for the cold, so the AC struggles to heat it in winter
I really liked the location, and traditional that this Ryokan is. Love it. Satoshi-san is a great Host. Cozy, confy place

MalaysiaThe room which I stayed at the first floor could be a little chilly at night, make sure to have thick blanket if you're an easy-to-feel-cold person.
Everything's fine. The location, the room, the cool manager. I had a pleasant stay here.

AustraliaStaying here was an absolute pleasure, it’s a cross between an Akira Kurosawa film set and 1980s backpacker haunt. The gentleman that runs the place has seen it all and only too happy to help. Close to most of the stuff that matters in Tokyo or close enough to a train station that will get you elsewhere, we would come back in a heartbeat.

United StatesI'm forced to identify something(s) I didn't like, but please don't take this as an insult to the wonderful Ryokan or its kind and generous host. As I stated under things I like, the building is 108 years old, but with that kind of age you have to have different expectations than you would from a more modern facility. Because the room I was staying at was air-conditioned, and I wasn't in the common areas much during the heat of the day, my biggest issue would have to be the noise isolation, or lack there of. I normally can't sleep in a noisy environment, but Tokyo has a way of making you walk so much that by the time I was laying down to sleep, I didn't have any issue with the sound of the occasional passing car. That said, if you're after intimacy, you might want to book a few hours at a love hotel, because anything you do in your room will be broadcast to everyone in the Ryokan 😅
The area and the value were both exceptional. Additionally, this was the only traditional Japanese place I stayed at during this trip, so it was lovely to find one that was authentic. The building itself is 108 years old.

SingaporeIt was a very cool lovely place, situated in a great streets with nice local bars, restaurants and Izakayas, close to the metro, tokyo tower and Asakusa shrine. Felt very safe and welcoming. The futons were very confortable. Just keep in mind walls are a little thin, but that is an inconvenient for this type of old-school building.

AustraliaThere is basically no noise insulation. You can hear all types of street noises from people talking, laughing, cars driving past, etc. The most unbearable was the loud snoring noises from other rooms on the floor. I basically only slept for 2 hours, even with ear-plugs on. Whenever anyone walks on the floor, the floor creaks very loudly. You can hear other people talking, and whenever someone comes in and out of any room, you get woken up. The place needs major renovation. The toilets are semi-see-through. The basin is basically a large trough. The quilts look quite old and could do with replacing. There are large sheets being hung around all walk ways - not sure what these are for, but looks weird.
Central location with lots of restaurants and bars within 1 block of the ryokan.

PhilippinesI like how it was so budget-friendly to a solo traveller like me. It was a traditional house and slept on the floor with soft mattress. Near the Nakamise shopping street and Sensoji Temple.. A subway station is also nearby and 1 train ride from Narita Airport. The host was also super nice and accomodating. If I ever get back to Tokyo on solo, I might stay again here.
