Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere was a lot of light that came through the windows in certain rooms which made it a bit hard to sleep sometimes. I used a face mask ! Otherwise it was great
The location was awesome, the owner is awesome, and I really enjoyed the traditional style rooms. It had a hostel feel but with a bit more privacy. The location was accessible to many things and I really enjoyed staying there.

United StatesThin walls (obviously it's a ryokan) so loud neighbors can be an issue.

MalaysiaDue to the proper traditional design of the property, there were no bidets in the barthrooms which was a problem for me but otherwise it was perfect as the showers had adjustable temperatures as well.
The property gave a very traditional Japanese style vibe, perfect if you’re into experiencing a ryokan. The owner was very friendly and helpful, he helped me safe keep an item that I left behind until my friend picked it up. Highly recommend this stay.

1. Price Luckily I got very great price with cute room. 2. Location A few mins away from the Tawaramachi subway station and tourism places. Also, I have found amazing bakery, restaurants and supermarkets around with fantastic price. 3. Owner He can speak very great English and is willing to help. 4. Maintenance It’s old place but well managed. It’s good to have an experience what you can have only in Japan. I’m from Korea, and still the house looked very unique for me.

PortugalMy room did not have windows and the sink to wash your hands / face only had cold water, but it was easily solvable by using the shower instead (which gets hot quickly and you can regulate the temperature). The comments about the noise are true, but I did not have any trouble sleeping
Lovely traditional Ryokan, perfect for an authentic experience. The room has air conditioning, so it gets quite comfortable even in winter. The owner was always very helpful and kept my luggage both before check in and after check out. Location is great, very close to the metro station and to the main Asakusa attractions. Many restaurants, cafes and convenience stores near by.

MalaysiaIt is a discomfort to Malaysian when there is no bidet around toilet bowl. The floor board in the corridor creaks and cracks when walk upon, but that's the way of a traditional house. This is not a complaint, just to serve as a reminder to all the princes and princesses out there.
Stay here to have an authentic experience of Japanese traditional house. The helpful owner is able to commune with decent English. Sensoji, Sumida River and the view point of Tokyo Skytree are just around the corner. Taking photos of those places without any other visitors was very easy when staying here.

TaiwanInitially I thought the risk of being in an old building would be lack of sound-proofing between rooms, and had decided to chance it with earplugs. This was actually fine. However, the real challenge was sleeping on a vibration-prone floor, should the other guests decide to stomp about til an ungodly hour. As long as they don't, it's not an issue, and if you are a firm sleeper, or a late-night stomper yourself, do not let these things deter you (but please practice walking lightly), however I feel this should be noted for the particularly sensitive. Perhaps there could be some signage for the well-hidden showers, as another guest tried repeatedly to get into my room at midnight looking for them (proving that the door latch may look flimsy but is actually quite effective).
Excellent location near the metro and tourist attractions, friendly staff, very interesting experience and atmosphere staying in a traditional house, bedding is warm and comfortable, facilities are adequate and clean. I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the single room was. Overall I would recommend it.

AustraliaThere is a small space for hanging your clothes after doing your laundry so time your load accurately so there will be space for your clothing. The toilet room is quite small (the womens) although very clean and perfectly usable, just squishy
Our stay at Taito Ryokan was 7 nights long and in the height of the summer heat (from 23rd August) The ryokan is a beautiful building with lovely wooden floors and windows, and traditional tatami rooms where we slept on futon under the air con. During our stay the communal bathroom was pretty quiet most of the time and the showers are located on a lower floor to the rooms and other bathroom. We appreciated Mr. Satoshi's daily routine of cleaning the communal spaces, although we didn't spend much time in them due to the extreme heat and the lack of air conditioning outside of the guests rooms. For this reason we would enter our room immediately after arriving home, greeted by Mr.Satoshi each time which is nice. The location of Taito Ryokan is excellent; we loved the Asakusa neighbourhood because it isn't too busy or central, but still has the city charm we loved. Conveniently located near multiple train station and bus stops (I loved the Tokyo buses, definitely use their system) Overall we had a great time at the Taito Ryokan in the privacy of our space room for three. Each room in our accommodation afterwards felt small in comparison! Thank you Mr.Satoshi and Asakusa.

IrelandFirst time in a Ryokan so bedding was not what I expected. Could have had a better duvet. Wifi was quite slow at times. Very noisy when streets are busy, no sound protection whatsoever, bring earplugs.
The location was excellent, right in the heart of Asakusa. Everything was within walking distance. AC was excellent.

AustraliaNot much could be better for the price. We got exactly what we expected for the cost and were very happy with that :-) Lovely area to get to stay in at a great price, and in a traditional ryokan style as well.
Great feel for the price, great area to stay in as well. Bed was slightly to uncomfortable at arrival, but after asking for extra layer for futon the host fixed this immediately and I slept very well after that.

GermanyIf you're tall like us, take care of not bumping your head and the sinks being low down! Absolutely fine, but good to know.
The Ryokan has a lovely traditional vibe in the middle of a bustling city. The surrounding area is a great tourist and culture spot, and the ryokan fits right into it. The age of the building makes it feel lived and homely. It is super clean and well taken care of. The host, Satoshi-san is extremely friendly and helpful! We could really wind down here!
