Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaExceptional customer service at this family run Ryokan (thanks to our host, Van). The traditional rooms are gorgeous and the 3 private onsens are great. Whilst quite a bit not to my (somewhat unadventurous) taste, the traditional japanese food offered as part of the stay is exquisitely prepared and of very high quality.

This property was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and the staff was incredibly kind. We also had our stay include breakfast and dinner and the food was some of the best food I’ve had in Japan. My husband and I loved it here and we know we want to come back!

United KingdomNothing, it was perfect.
From the minute we walked in the door we loved it - the subtle scent of incense, the polished but friendly service, the little additional touches that made us feel special - it was perfect. We were looked after for our stay by Maya who couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcomed. The owner introduced herself to us which was a lovely touch and the food was superb - we had the keiseki both nights and the breakfasts and all were delicious. There are three onsen in the hotel, all private and distinct from each other - one outdoors, another dark with lovely mood lighting - and all well looked after and meticulously clean. We honestly couldn’t fault a thing.

United Arab EmiratesBreakfast and dinner served in the room. Different variety for the two breakfasts over the two mornings. Dinner is the variety that you choose from the available set menus. We had the crab one night (local fresh crabs) and Tajimaya Beef the next night. Multi-course meals. Delicious and great service. They also arranged to have luggage delivered to near the train station so we could continued enjoying the town on checkout day. You should come here. The location is also excellent for being in the quieter part of town yet near the baths and ropeway.

United StatesThis was an amazing experience! We are a young couple in our early 30’s and my husband has a lot of tattoos. The village is known for being tattoo friendly and they are! Check in isn’t until 3 pm but they allowed us to leave our bags there. I suggest you do as we did, and we headed to the ropeway. Once you get to the top, make sure you order the Tajima hot dog. Kinosaki is known for their Tajima beef! It’s the best kind of beed I’ve ever had. Furthermore, the staff was so friendly when we checked in. Mia was our room attendant and she spoke really good English. She was the best! You will get to pick your Yucata and stroll the streets with one one. Please make sure you know the etiquette when going into the public onsens. Yes, there are 7 of them throughout the whole village. You can also collect a stamp at each one! There are posters at each onsen to indicate what to do. You must bathe first. Yes, they all have shampoo and body soap. Make sure you also visit the souvenir shops and explore! Best times to visit, even for one day and night is on the weekends. Most stores and bars are closed during the weekday. We only stayed one day, and that wasn’t enough. I would do at least 2 nights! Last but not least, they have 3 private onsens you can go to! The food was delicious and our room was beautiful! We are definitely going to be back and we will stay at this Ryokan. Thank you to Mia and the staff, and the owner who showed up to greet us in our room! They are all truly there to make their guest happy! AustraliaIt was my first experience with a ryokan and onsen and it couldn't have been better. The staff were lovely, my hostess spoke perfect English and myself and my son were accommodated and well looked after. The private onsens were beautiful and the surrounding town was so picturesque. The meals served were delicious. The stay will be the highlight of my trip to Japan and I strongly recommend you stay here if coming to Japan.

United KingdomAmazing ryokan with fantastic food, which was served in my room. Maya looked after me from check in to check out. She spoke English so was able to help me with any of my questions. She also helped me pick up a yukata, that I wore from check in. The dinner and breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Worth ever penny. My room was lovely and quiet at the back of the property overlooking a garden. My Japanese bed was lovely and comfortable. I was able to use the private onsen’s at the ryokan. The public onsen’s outside were also mostly very close. You can easily walk from the top of town to the train station in 20mins. It was lovely to meet the owner who came and welcomed me over dinner. She was also there at checkout.

United StatesIt would be nice to have more comfortable seating in the room. The chairs were not comfortable to relax in the room for very long. More choices for breakfast (for westerners).
Beautiful ryokan with attentive and friendly staff. The 3 private onsens were all unique and beautiful. The chef presented delicious meals with different menus the 3 nights we were there. Maya, the young woman who coordinated our meals, helped select our yukata every day, and anything we needed, was beyond wonderful!

PolandWonderfull Old style building. Very japanese style decorated rooms. Everyone is trying to make your stay best possible. Food is amazing, private baths as well. Location in the heart of Kinosaki Onsen. Personel is speaking more English (or at least have preapred more cards in English) than in most places in Kyoto which is helpfull. If someone wants chilling time with excellent quality food and place to sleep we really do reccomend.

United Kingdom- make sure if you have an allergy you list exactly what you cannot eat as shellfish apparently does not include shrimp in Japan. staff quickly rectified this for us when dinner was served - be prepared to sleep on a futon (like in all similar accommodation)
- beautiful building - great location in the centre - lovely staff - Maya was great! - brilliant dinner and breakfast served in our room - amazing to try lots of Japanese dishes we hadn’t before. highlights were the beef and sashimi - nice to have the option of in house and external onsens - all amenities you would need for a trip are provided (including traditional garments)
