Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChileBeautiful town and hostel. The vibe of this place is amazing, very cozy and homy, and the building is a very well preserved historical building. It has great installations and common áreas, the bed was also really comfy and everything was clean. They even offer a special price for the local onsen (wich I also recommend) and a welcome drink (I recommend the homemade plum sake). The hosts were incredibly friendly and they speak english. The breakfast was also really good! I only wished I could have stayed longer!!

JapanThe staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Me and my wife absolutely loved staying at this traditional Japanese house. And although traditional, the house is very well renovated, comfortable, and clean. The room was cosy, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. I intend to return to Taketa while travelling around Kyushu and I will definitely stay again at this Hostel Cue!

A front-of-house bakery and an environmentally sustainable influence throughout added to the experience. Will definitely be coming back!

AustraliaThe hostel had one shower, so I had to wait before I could use it. But it was a nice shower with a lot of water.
This was a beautiful hostel, very impressive, located in an authentic Japanese home. The owners were so lovely and are genuinely kind people who made our stay great. Breakfast was great, bread very good (because they also had a bakery). The tatami’s in the room were comfortable as well. Looking back to it we loved staying here thank you! Also I didn’t expect Taketa to be so interesting. It’s a funny little town, nice houses and beautiful rock formations. Unfortunately we didn’t have time enough to explore the area but would have loved to.

FranceIt’s all great
Probably the best hostel I’ve ever been to in Japan, the staff is absolutely lovely, there’s a bakery just underneath so it smells nice and breakfast has delicious bread. I even forgot something that the staff sent to me to another hotel. Best place to stay if you’re going to Mount Aso.

Breakfast and coffee available to purchase, discounted onsen tickets, close to station, renovated traditional Japanese building, comfortable beds and great food recommendations. GermanyA wonderful hostel. It's an old Japanese style building, which I found very charming. The dorm rooms and the single rooms are fairly spacious (for hostel standards). Everything is very clean and cozy. There are 2 common areas ( one western style and one Japanese style living room), and a kitchen. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Taketa itself is a very quiet, small place. I did some hikes around town and St Mt aso, though public transport to the trailheads is difficult, so plan that we'll. Breakfast was also lovely (especially the French toast were very tasty!) I extended my stay because I so thoroughly enjoyed being there.

The hostel is clean, tidy and well kept. We checked- in a mixed room with 6 cubicles, similar to capsule hotel. The cubicle though small is cosy and comfortable. The breakfast provided next morning in very good. The toilet and bath room are shared but clean and tidy. The property is old and worth touring. Sakura, the hostess, is nice and introduces to us and good resturant for dinner. She also gives us and brief introduction of the layout and facilities of the hostess. A free drink is provided to every guest is ordered before 9pm.

JapanThe only point that I couldn't enjoy is the squeky sound of the stairs and ground board when someone walked, which made me awake for several times in the night. I guess it can't be helped because of the materials and structure of the hostel, maybe it is better to use a ear plug next time (sold at ¥100 in the hostel).
Staffs were very friendly and willing to share information on local travelling. Several comfy and spacy common areas to chill and chit chat with friends. Breads/pattisseries smelled so good, but too bad I didn't have time to try. Bed/sleeping area was above average, fan and lamp were provided for each bed, blanket, comforter and bed felt comfortable. WiFi was good. A welcome drink is provided for each guest.

AustraliaThe cafe is closed on Wednesday, so I had to wait around until check in time after catching the train to Taketa. Not a huge deal for me, but just bare that in mind if you decide to come on a Wednesday.
Beautiful well maintained place, with wooden structure. An older traditional style feel with modern amenities. There is a cafe/bar attached, although it is mostly pretty quiet (at least when I stayed), so you should not worry about getting a decent night's sleep. They speak english here also, I was easily able to communicate as a foreigner who speaks very little Japanese. Close to the train station, and a beautiful town to take a walk around in!
