Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing. Everything was great.
Large room which was great with our two kids. Very friendly and welcoming staff. They did our washing and I received my clothes nicely folded and clean the next day. Very convenient location nearby the train station but in a quiet street. Small onsen and commun bathrooms extremely cleaned.

United KingdomThe staff dont speak much english, so use google translate if needed. The facility is outdated, especially the onsen area is very old and not refurbished.
Staff are welcoming. They did our laundry for us, for free. The room is a good size and comfortable. The location is brilliant, very central. Very good for the price given the location.

United KingdomThe bath was only open twice a day and I'm still not sure if I was allowed to use it with tattoos, sinks were on the corridor. There was a welcome booklet in the room that stated there would be cooked meals but there wasn't. Curfew was 11pm. I suppose these things are normal for a Ryokan and I should have informed myself before booking l just feel it should be specified in the add

IndiaThe doors are not made for tall people. Hit my head twice entering my room haha!
Smiling owners/ staff. They always tried to help in whichever way possible even without a common language. The location was great - 3 min walk from the Gozo station one stop from the main station. 15-30 mins from anywhere central. The indoor Onsen was great too!

AustraliaNot so much that I didn't like, as I knew what they were as I went in, but guests should know that Ryokan's by definition, and especially traditional Japanese ryokan's in a place like Kyoto, toilets and sinks are communal. Takigawa Ryokan is clean, but it is showing its age. No amount of cleaning will change the fact that it is old.
It is a traditional Japanese ryokan. The sento was nice, and seems like I had it all to myself. The room that I was assigned to was HUGE! I was only travelling by myself, but the room could easily fit 4-5 people. Very traditional tatami mats and futon's, quite a experience. I do recommend that travellers book it with meals, as it makes the experience so much better than without meals. Oh, and my room had a private sink, which I wasn't expecting.

DenmarkOnly downsize is the shared bathrooms, but to be honest it is not that big a problem as the feel and intimacy of the whole place sort of fits the setting.
The staff were exceptionally polite, helpful, and considerate. Without asking for it, they offered to do our laundry. Which was washed, hung to dry and meticulously folded and placed outside our door the next morning. Best Ryokan I've experienced in Japan.

AustraliaThe bathrooms are shared, which I wasn't aware of when booking. It's my fault I didn't read the description properly.
Staff were supa helpfully and friendly. The small gifts they left you after cleaning the room were nice. Great location and walking distance to Kyoto main station and lots of eateries.

KazakhstanSpacious room for acceptable price in 15 min. from train station. It was close to all places that we planned to visit. We also had a small cozy garden outside. The shared bathroom (onsen) was great. This is not just a room, it is experience of living in traditional japaneese house. Highly recommended.

GermanyThe staff was strict with the check-out at 10 am. We were still in our room at 9:45 am getting ready to leave, when a staff member came reminding us of the time. Due to the age of the building, the bathrooms have a humidity problem, which you can smell. However this was only in the bathroom, not in the rooms.
As it is a traditional ryokan, we mainly stayed here for the experience. The rooms were spacious and we slept on surprisingly comfortable futon beds. We also had our own sink, whereas toilets and bathrooms are shared. Everything was very clean.

JapanThe air conditioner worked well on the first day, but after the next day, it did not work well, and it was cooler in the hallway.
The bath was nice. You can put it in the morning and evening and relax. The rooms are Japanese-style, but you can relax. They also lent me a washing machine so I didn't have to go to the laundromat. The correspondence of Mr. Okami and Mr. Nakai was also good.
