Uncomfortable pillows Rooms are a little dated and need some updates

I chose this property as I read a lot about getting a ryokan when visiting Kyoto. The location is fantastic, the big room overlooked the river and had a nice terrace with plenty of storage space and a large bathroom.

Loved the location, on the river.Loved the traditional breakfast. It was varied and delicious. We felt pampered. The property was close to Gion District and Pontocho Alley.

Rather worn property. There were 2 futons each, but pretty hard...to be expected in ryokan, but one and done for me.

Excellent dinner and breakfast. Different meal each time. Lovely view of the river from the restaurant. This staff was wonderful. Felt well taken care of. Nice to stay in traditional room. Sitting area in the room was comfortable with nice view of cherry blossoms. Very convenient to all of east side of town.

It's unfortunate that there was no onsen to completely enjoy the ryokan experience.

The room was bright and spacious. Theres just something comforting about the traditional rooms that you can't get from a modern hotel. There is also green tea available in the room to rest and relax after a long day visiting shrines. The breakfast was tasty and had a wide array of food cooked Japanese style. It was also overlooking the river that allows for a good view while enjoying our meals.

sleeping on the thin mats for 3 nights was a little uncomfortable but I doubled up two mats to have more comfort on the last night

such a peaceful stay, the decor is traditional and minimalistic. lovely area and view over the river. the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were exquisite - each dish like a work of art and perfectly balanced.

The ceilings and some walls had marks and stains from its age. Not a huge issue, but would be room for improvement. I would stay at this ryokan again if we return!

The Wifi stopped working halfway through our stay, I don’t think they knew how to reset or fix it.

This was the perfect mix of modern and traditional. The room was just lovely and the staff were very helpful. Wish we had the opportunity to stay longer.

The room was comfortable and also the breakfast was great! Even though we had a minor hiccup during our stay, the staff was able to help and also accommodate to our needs due to the hiccup. Would recommend this place for those who want to experience a traditional style with a modern touch hotel stay

Very good location. It’s an older property with dated facilities but the rooms were spacious and comfortable. It’s great for a night or two to experience a Ryokan and Kaiseki dinner. The dinner is a must! BUT you have to be open to try new things - we didn’t recognize a lot of foods but that added to the experience for us. We had a seven course meal that was beautifully prepared and presented. As other reviewers mentioned, if you’re looking for a traditional, old style experience, then this place is great. Breakfast was really nice, it’s served at three times (7:40/8:00/8:20am).

We honestly loved everything about it. Our family of 4 stayed in the 6 person capacity tatami room and it was lovely with 2 bathrooms with toilets and, a another separate bathroom with bath/shower and vanity. It also had a separate bedroom for the adults (with a door!), living room with tv and a galley kitchen. The staff was attentive and helpful. The food was amazing for both breakfast and dinner. It is located in a lovely neighborhood and we walked to Kiyomizu-dera temple and Nishiki Market from there.
