Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanThe room is clearly modified from an old hotel, it is good but just the setting is a bit wierd for example there's a big window behinde the bed.
The location is nice, it's attached with a shopping mall and train station and there's a lift go to the top floor to see the view of the city.

South AfricaOnly that I didn’t stay long enough. Just 2 nights. Odawara is a really cute little town with many hidden gems.
Love the location. Once you find the entrance u realise how convenient it is. I faced the ocean side so the noise from the trains was not an issue at all. The onsen is small but stunning. Epic views of Odawara castle, especially at night. 🫶🏽

CanadaClean, compact room very close to the train station. Great base to explore Hakone from. Breakfast buffet was good and there are lots of food options nearby as well. Front desk was very helpful when I needed something. It is worth mentioning that the mattresses are very firm so keep that in mind.

Czech RepublicIt is a little hard to find when you first come from the train station. I was not able to use the public bath because I have tattoos, even though this is a hotel and people of different cultural backgrounds are expected there. Other hotels had no issue with tattoos. Since the hotel is close to the train stations, it can get a bit noisy.
The hotel is very nice and clean. My room was very spacious and I had a nice view. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is great, very close to the train station. Breakfast was great and the restaurant has a really nice view.

New ZealandThis isn’t unique to this place, and I don’t expect it being in Japan, but I guess for those with special requirements it could be handy to know that not many of the staff speak English. I booked one night via Rakuten and another night via booking.com they were different room types so I had to check out i between. I should have just said I was staying 1 night and gone through the checkin as usual the next day. But I did mention I would stay 2 nights under separate bookings in the off chance they might have 1 room I could stay in, this opened unnecessary confusion and was a faff - but my fault. btw, the Rakuten booking process was terrible, although you don’t have to put any credit card details, you don’t really know if your booking is secure because you have to respond to an email etc - they didn’t reply my email or send another confirmation so I had to phone them - again the language was an issue but thankfully they passed me to someone who could translate. Oh and yes you can hear the train going by every few minutes but that’s the trade off for the good location (which has lots of good street food, convenience store etc nearby)
Very spacious room, convenient location (btw when you receive the directions, when it says the landmarks, basically head to the uncovered area and turn right, then you’ll see the glass walkway which is the ‘passage way’ they’re talking about). The onsen was larger than expected and even had a steam room.

United StatesDifficult to find despite the directions emailed to me. Breakfast was not included and was booked and I was unable to participate. Elevators at 5:00 p.m. were very slow and crowded. My side of the hotel was facing the train station which was noisy all night.
1. Good location surrounded by restaurants and the train station. 2. They have a public bath which I did not use. 3. There was a closet. 4. The room had a refrigerator.

United StatesThe breakfast was not as nice as in other similarly priced hotels we stayed in during our trip. The breakfast area closed earlier than any of our other hotels. The staff made us feel very rushed and by 9:00 a.m. they were telling us that they were closing. The food items were not plentiful by 8:45 a.m. and the items were not replenished. Fortunately there were other nice restaurants in the area.
Location is excellent and very close walk to the train and the castle. Wonderful stores and food selections nearby. The massage service was excellent and the Onsen was delightful.

United KingdomVery poor signage for hotel - no outside signage indicating where it was accessed from street level. Restaurant is advertised as being open from 5.00pm to 9.00 for food. We stayed two nights and could not get a meal - being told it was fully booked. We sat in the small area of seating near the bar for over 2 hours and there were always seats in the restaurant. It appears they do just one sitting per table and do not use all the tables they have. It’s shameful to operate like this - we had flown in from a 9 hour flight and then 1.5 hour drive and could not get a meal.
Very comfortable with excellent breakfast. Ideal for accessing the train and bus stations for touring Hakone
