- Coffee could be improved, it's unfortunately not up to high standards as it comes through a machine - The bed wasn't as comfortable - As a woman its hard to put make up on, as the mirror is far away and the light is not ideal- would be great if hotels started to improve on this

fabulous hotel....staff were so helpful ( a group of us asked them to find an Okonomyaki cooking class to participate in, they tried so hard over 2-3 hours to find one)..... they have a fabulous free Bar/Tea room downstairs which we utilized many evenings for nibblies and a catchup after touring all day.... cannot recommend highly enough..

Rooms were larger than expected - very clean. Pleasant, restful atmosphere. Staff helpful, USE the Concierge! They called to make reservations, confirmed if places were open (as google isn't always accurate) helped us with plan B when a place couldn't accommodate us. We didn't think to ask for their help, until late in the trip, would have saved us a lot of discussion, searching time and effort! Breakfast while pricey, has a nice variety and is a great way to try different things. Coffee in the room and at breakfast. Location is in quiet area, you will walk 5 - 10 minutes to Restaurants. FYI - We booked because they had a shuttle from the train station. After getting our train tickets, realizing we would be arriving late (after 11 pm), we learned the shuttle doesn't run 24 hrs. This is on us, as I didn't check the detailed schedule, (and train timing was our choice) prior to booking. just keep it in mind if you want the shuttle as part of your trip to coordinate the two. We did use the shuttle back to the train station within their schedule. It was easy and on time as promised.

Very poor wifi connection.

Room was great. I liked being able to open a window allowing fresh air into the room. The rooms are very comfortable & very nicely appointed & staff attentive. When you arrive back at the hotel around 5pm it’s very nice to drop into the lounge for a complimentary refreshment. I would highly recommend the hotel.

The hotel isn’t close to any metro station. The shuttle bus can have more frequency than just once per hour.

A hidden gem in a quiet neighborhood in the middle of Gion. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Facility is clean and rather new.

We asked for a restaurant recommendation one night for sushi and were sent to a restaurant that was probably our worst meal we had. It was very disappointing as we would expect with a hotel recommendation that the quality would be good but it was bad quality fish and quite expensive.

This was our second stay at the hotel and we just love it. The staff are so welcoming and attentive as are the concierge service who are wonderful at providing recommendations. Its peaceful and quiet and so close to so many great spots in Gion. I usually like to try new places but honestly Im so happy we returned to this hotel after 4 years as its just as good as the first time we went.

Exceptional hotel. Great location, great rooms and great staff. Could not have asked for a better place. Although we did not use the Onsen, it looked very nice. Breakfast was spectacular. Fantastic selection of all types of items traditional and cultural. Would definitely stay again!

Cosy, boutique hotel. Just 7 years old. Lovely interior design. Welcome hot bath which is opened from 4pm to 11am which after a long day walking in Kyoto helped ease any muscle soreness. Staff were friendly and helpful. Free Gion Walking Tour but need to book early as only 6 persons allowed (insurance purposes). Breakfast was amazing! Convenient Shuttle bus connecting to Kyoto Train Station.

Well designed hotel. Just right - eg. breakfast is not elaborate but just the right amount - lighting is very clear and simple. Layout is very good - generous space - sufficient to lay out our suitcases.

The hotel's restaurant had a very restricted menu and served only 'course meals' or 'set meals' every evening. Some ala carte offerings would have been appreciated. Also, the wifi was rather spotty and kept disconnecting for no reason.

The hotel's location, at one edge of the famous Keninji Temple and within 300m of the heart of Gion was amazing. This small hotel was beautifully designed and set within a landscape courtyard that exuded Zen calm and serenity. The room was spacious and everything was well-thought out. An added bonus was the free shuttle bus service from the hotel to Kyoto Station, which is some 15 mins away by car.

The room layout is a bit awkward; for a day or two it was ok for us, but we had stayed longer, we probably would try to get a suite to spread out a little bit... this is minor though as we are paying for what we get!

The staff are very nice — all would go out of their ways to help you with anything you need! We asked them to help book dinner reservation because the staff at a restaurant we wanted to go didn't have English speaker when we called; we towed our luggage in the morning and came back to check in with luggage already in the room. The facility offers onsen (separately for women and men) which I made use of during the stay, which was wonderful — clean, well stocked with towels and bathing supplies (soap, shampoo, hair dryers...). The room came with Yukatas and slippers that you could wear to go down the onsen area (there is also instruction how to use this public bath facility, which is very helpful!) Breakfast buffet is pretty good, with plenty healthy options to compensate for what you would eat throughout the days visiting the city (there is hardly vegetables/greens options to go with the wonderful ramen noodles, or sobas, or shashimis around town!)
