We stayed in a traditional Japanese room and we were surprised by how small it was - it looked larger in the pictures online.

The location is excellent. The staff was incredibly helpful throughout our stay and on site laundry was a huge plus.

The machiya was quietly tucked away from the busy streets. It was a central location with easy walking access to the Karasuma line, Hankyu Kyoto line, Gion district, and Kamo River. The room was large and comfortable and we loved having access to complimentary 24-hour coffee and tea, as well as laundry during our stay.

Suite I stayed adjoins to neighbouring suite, which is fine, since doors lock on both side. Could hear coughing and talking from neighbouring suite, though wasn't really an issue for me. If you're sensitive to noise, recommend asking staff for a quieter stuite.

Great facilities (e.g. laundry, tea lounge), great value, well located, helpful staff. Great stay that exceeded expectations.

The shower room is one of those modular rooms. Nothing really wrong with it, just gives a plasticky feeling which was a bit surprising for the price range

Nice rooms, well maintained and super accommodating and welcoming staff. Free laundry machine and decent coffee is definitely a nice bonus

    Nothing.

This was a traditional Ryokan style and we stayed in what was probably a smaller suite. It was a bit tricky with suitcases and show removal with 3 people in a small area (neither shoes nor cases are allowed in the living area of the room - they are left in a small entrance within your room). For this reason, it could be a good idea to price up for a bigger room if there are 3 or more of you, bearing in mind it becomes a bit more expensive. There was an external laundry which worked well. Reception were lovely, very helpful. The Ryokan is situated in a lovely, quiet area of Kyoto. Very traditional and nice to walk around, we found an excellent Katsudon restaurant within 5-7 minutes walking distance. In general, the location was a bit further from Gion and surrounds but walkable. Our room had a beautiful private garden with water feature and traditional sitting areas. Lovely, albeit small, bathroom. We walked from Kyoto station to the Ryokan and it took about 30 minutes but flat ground all the way.

The biggest disappointment was to find out that we could have had the breakfast in the hotel but it needed to be booked at least 5 days in advance!! I find this time very long and I don’t understand why it was not communicated then to us in advance via message. Another small point is the availability of basket to take the wash upstairs was very low (I think there was only one).

Great hotel for family. The room for perfect for 4 people with a double bed and 2 futons. We could rearrange the room then to eat there and we had enough space for luggage. Washing machine and dryer in the 1st floor were often available and we could easily do our laundry. Position is also very good, we could visit all we want in center Kyoto by foot. Some charme of traditional house is also there but we could enjoy service as in an luxury hotel.

The pillows were a tad uncomfortable and the lack of breakfast meant everytime going out to find something to bicker in the morning. Of course I knew this beforehand, but I did not realise that the hotel was not in the middle of a lively location, meaning you still have to walk 10 minutes to find a Starbucks

Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Everything that you need is provided and the washing machine in the room was a big plus for a longer trip

There was no breakfast option. But it was due to the pandemic. Hope they have it back soon! The only coffee machine available there ... Can be nicer. Haha.

Love love love the space for what I'm paying. Clean and tidy space. The complimentary coffee sachets in the room were really delicious. ;3 However it might be a little far for ppl who cannot walk long/far. Very quiet area. There is a nice Malaysian gentleman who works there that helped us a lot with recommendations and insights to the area. Easy communications so thank you. Also helped us call for a taxi/cab to leave. The staff also accommodated our request to have our luggage delivered to the next hotel very smoothly. As we had to leave before the Yamato Delivery morning timing, we arranged to process the luggage the night before in order to make it work.
