Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelWe had a car so it was easy to come and go but if you're depending on public transport then it would be much harder.
The location although a bit remote from Hakone small towns was perfect just by the lake with a nice view of Fuji mountain ( when the weather was nice). The room was big and comfortable and the onsen was great. The hotel staff was very nice and welcoming. the hotel have a western breakfast buffet which is nice.

United StatesIt is secluded enough that it takes a 45 min shuttle/bus ride to get to the hotel from Odawara. We also could not use the onsen as tatoos are not allowed.
This is a secluded location in the mountains. It rained our entire stay, so we didn't get out and about much sadly, but the interior of the hotel is gorgeous. It reminded us of a mountain resort (like the moutain lodge in "Dirty Dancing" movie). We had planned on using the Hakone ropeway and the "pirate ship" lake ferries to explore up to Gora, but the weather shut down those transports. Which left us not much to do but look around a couple shops and play cards. They do have an aquarium close by but we did not go inside. We did have a dinner at the French restaurant, and the food was very beautiful and delicious, high-end French cuisine in a beautiful dining room with views of Lake Ashinoko.

AustraliaHotel has 3 restaurants though all very expensive. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant and very nice selection though this was our most expensive dinner and didn't think it was value for money compared to other great restaurants we visited in Japan.
Very grand and beautiful hotel with great view of Mount Fuji from the garden area. Large room with very comfortable beds and pillows.

LuxembourgThere are restaurants at the hotel for the dinner but the value for money was not satisfactory.
The onsen (hot spring) is nice. There is a nice view on the lake from the room. There are several touristic attractions in the vicinity of the hotel. When the weather is nice, you get to see Mount Fuji.

IrelandThe dining options on site are very limiting: the French restaurant is supposed to be very good, but we couldn't try it as they don't allow children under 12. The all-you-can-eat grill buffet is appallingly bad and charges 40+ EUR per person.
The scenery is beautiful. There is a cable car station nearby, which takes you up to the nearest peak.

United StatesIt’s a little bit far from the nearest Shinkansen Station. The breakfast was a little too limited and restaurants are overpriced. The staff’s english is very limited.
Good location, nice view to the lake and the Mount Hakone. Nice indoor and outdoor Olsen and restaurants (good variety of food). Very friendly and helpful staff. Happy with our choice to stay for no more than two nights because there was not a lot to do (at least not in Late March).

AustraliaSome facilities have fallen into disrepair (couches ripped, wallpaper peeling). The meal options are limited, so make sure to stock up at a convenience store or you will have to pay high prices to eat at the hotel restaurant/s.
The enormous hotel is like a labyrinth. We had a lot of fun exploring the sprawling corridors and hidden rooms. The open-air onsen was the best we have been to in Japan, SO peaceful. The hotel complex attaches to the gondola lift to the summit (for Fuji views).

United KingdomOur rooms were smaller than most of the other rooms on the floor. We had 2 rooms on the same floor and one the floor below. Not a lot of choice for vegetarians. Quite a walk from our room to the dining areas, some of which takes you outside, although the walkways are covered. We booked the Japanese restaurant without seeing the menu, when we went for our reservation and saw the costs we made our excuses and left, it was very expensive.
The onsen was lovely and clothing, etc was provided. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Setting is beautiful next to the lake. The courtesy bus was punctual and comfortable, easy to book for door to door convenience. Buffet was good for both breakfast and dinner. Convenient for buses and there was a ropeway (pay extra).

United StatesFor a few pieces of underwear you can pay as much as $30. One thing I didn't appreciate is the Japanese resteraunt of the hotel, the food wasn't so good and the prices were super expensive.
Nice place to stay in Hakone, although the hotel and rooms are a bit undated it was okay for us. The best thing in the hotel is the outdoor onsen and the view of mt Fuji from the lake-front of the hotel.

New ZealandThe price of the Japanese restaurant was at least quadruple what we've paid anywhere else on our travels. The remote location is great, but does limit choices for food.
The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and curteous (and many come out to greet you and wave you farewell which was cute) . Worth noting, being a little off the usual international traveller's path, fluency in English was rare, but nothing a few basic phrases in Japanese and/or hand gestures couldn't get around 🙂 The room was great - overlooking the beautiful lake, spacious, and with a well appointed bathroom. The food in the Japanese restaurant was lovely, and the free shuttle service was very handy.

The hotel is really charming. Around a lot of nature you can rent some bikes to hang out around. It is worth it. If you are looking for a sweet and calm escape ot will answer your needs

AustraliaTransport was a real issue as an international traveller. To eat outside the hotel it was almost impossible to get transport back to the hotel as we didn’t have a car. Hardly any taxis and buses not regular. Hotel restaurants were overpriced and not as good quality as smaller restaurants in town but… we couldn’t get home from them for dinner so had to eat at the hotel anyway. Apart from food and transport the hotel was amazing. If I came back I would get an international license and hire a car.
Amazing location, rooms were large enough to accomodate three people, beds good size and soft. Onsen was lovely and a great experience.
