Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PhilippinesThere was no room service, except at 19:30. We arrived early afternoon and had no food to order, tho’ famished. Bummer. Japanese breakfast was limited, no other options given (e.g. if coffee was preferred over tea). Tha quality of food was very good, however. Wifi was slow in the room and lobby and unavailable at the gym.
Gilligans had very good breakfast. We enjoyed the quality and servings. Much appreciated. Also, staff, paticularly Malala, was friendly and engaging. The onsen was well-provided for.

United KingdomAlthough the location for views is really good. As it's so far away from the town and lake, you need a taxi or use the shuttle bus to get to and from the hotel.

SingaporeThere elevators are rather confusing from the carpark to the hotel reception. The location might not be that convenient if you are not coming by car.
The view is amazing - we booked an ocean room but got upgraded to a room with a lake view and it was beautiful! The entire place looks pretty grand. Food was average.

Luxembourg-The staff, although very friendly, was hardly speaking English. In a hotel of such a reputation, you would expect that they speak at least rudimentarily. - Despite the large number of restaurants of the hotel, there was no availability for dinner for 2 persons other than in the buffet restaurant (price: 14.750 ¥ per person!) We arrived at 3PM and we were told that nothing else would be free anymore. We really felt tricked.

Hong KongWould be nicer if the portion of the breakfast at the French restaurant is larger, or we could choose to have buffet breakfast in some other days.
Pleasant experience overall. Good food, clean rooms and facilities, and most of the staffs were courteous. The view and surrounding atmosphere were spectacular.

PhilippinesManagement that seemed bent on extracting as much income as possible. They wanted to charge me to check in at noon instead of 3 pm. Every dinner meal was a compulsory prix fixe that ran into US$ 150 per head.
Beautiful winter landscape and splendid views.

United StatesI got 2 massages and was charged 200% more than menu prices. I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the front desk corrected it at checkout which I was grateful for. However a 13,000 yen difference just felt like they didn’t think I would notice when they charged the massage. Also please (especially if it’s too snowy to go into town) understand that unless you’re ok with only eating pricy meals at designated times, you will be disappointed. There are no convenience stores, no quick eating restaurants or even vending machines. Due to the pandemic most restaurants are closed and they don’t offer room service. If I had been there more than 2 nights I would have been very hungry. Fortunately I had some snacks left over from my previous hotel stay. There is nothing up there other than the hotel- $60 taxi ride/30mins down the mountain. Be prepared
I loved the atmosphere. You will feel very isolated from the world, in a good way. The onsen was great as was the breakfast. The snowstorm at the hotel was something else. The views cannot be beat. The snow was incredible. Loved swimming in a pool while it was snowing outside. Beautifully decorated for Christmas

SingaporeNothing negative.
It's an amazing hotel sited on top of a hill overlooking on one side Lake Toya and on the, a bay being part of Sea of Japan and one has a 360° view of the entire valley lake and mountains including of Mt Yotei in the distance. Its also a beautiful n lavishly appointed hotel and one of its many claims to fame is being the site of a G8 Summit hotel in 2008. It has many lovely restaurants, a great onsen plus a nice golf course to boot. Locals regard this hotel as Hokkaido's most prestigious hotel, and one can fully understand once you stay there. The staff are so professional and courteous fm the doorman to everyone you come into contact as they all seem so conscious they have a very high reputation to maintain as The Top hotel in the region. A Must Return to hotel.

Hong KongThe hotel is located distant from the Toya onsen main street. The free shuttle is infrequent so it might take taxi from Toya JR Station to the hotel. So for people travel by JR, the transportation could be a small issue.
Very grand hotel and nice staff. The ski site is lovely with nice snow and very friendly to beginners. The ski coach and rental staff we're particularly good. A memorable stay for us!

JapanMost everything else :-( The hotel clearly has been impacted severely by COVID -- they have such limited staffing that just about everything you want to do there is closed. And their staff are sooooo unwilling to accomodate custom requests. I thought it would be more like a Ritz Carlton given what I read about the place, but it was more like a Ritz Carlton run by Holiday Inn staff. Overall, we had a bad experience due to overpriced food, issues with our room that staff were unwilling to resolve until pushed very hard, and mostly closed facilities/amenities. Place is also in the middle of nowhere, making basic things (like getting there) difficult, complex, and expensive. Our trip to Windsor was mostly disappointing.
Outdoor Onsen was one of the most amazing and incredible experiences of our lives -- its gorgeous!! We were lucky enough also to use it while it was snowing outside -- a truly delightful experience. And the views from this place are to DIE for. Amazing.
