There is a short walk from the JR Hikone Station to the Ryokan, but it was all flat and manageable for me.

The host was very friendly, provided lots of hot water for the room and gave me a lift to the station on the last day. The room was sufficient and I loved the hot stone bath. The location is a short walk to Hikone Castle in a quiet street, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, supermarket and a convenient store near by.

Two floors down for toilet access overnight 😂 This place has been neglected of late which is sad - but I guess with some tidying up / new screens etc the price would no longer be so very accessible for this original experience. It was a bit like staying at your old uncle’s place… but clean ++

Original Ryokan So cool to get to spend a couple of nights in traditional accommodation and see what it actually looks like The onset was fabulous and lockable for privacy

Very traditional feel, hosts gave a lot of space but were readily available when required. Hikone is a lovely area to cycle. I cycled to the next town Taga with the free bicycle (believe you may need to book early if it's peak season) and stopped at Patisserie violet. The hamburg restaurant nearby was superb. For omi beef Ikkyu (mid range price) was delicious. Breakfast is recommended!

Some parts in the room a bit old but it's comfy.

This is really really good value for the location in Hikone. There are plenty of restaurants around. It also has its own charm as a traditional Ryokan. It has a hot bath!

Beds could have been softer (typically ryokan bedding, so it wasn’t surprising) and it was a little bit run down, but the place was fantastic!!

Beautiful old ryokan, with super friendly helpful staff and good food.

Everything. This place is magical, the rooms are so big and Japanese style, I had a room with 2 Tatami beds, a living room, a fridge, a beautiful space for sit and enjoy the garden. You can use the onsen for free. The owner gave us a lift to the train station, which was so kind. If you stay here, make sure to eat some skewers in the restaurant that is just at the front. Overall, this makes my experience unforgettable. 10/10

The futons could have been thicker and softer and pillows could have been more comfortable.

Lovely traditional style budget ryokan near a large strip of restaurants. There is an onsen which you can use privately as long as no one else is using it at the time. The manager is awesome, he offers you a lift to the station when you checkout which we greatly appreciated. There are some bikes you can rent for free, but make sure you ask early. It was great value for money.

If I was to complain about anything there was a little bit of road noise. Mainly due to my room being closest to the road - all other rooms are situated towards the back of the property. I still managed to get a good nights sleep!

The location was walking distance from Hikone castle - which is a must see. We were also able to walk down to the Hikone Harbour which had a nice sunset. The facilities such as the onsen and toilets were well kept. The rooms themselves were surprisingly spacious. The host was very friendly and kindly offered to give us a lift back to Hikone station.

It wasn't very comfortable, we've stayed similar which had softer futons

Gorgeous spacious room, very traditional with an onsen. Staff really friendly and dropped us to the station, very accommodating. Garden was lovely and very calming. I'd book a family room if possible as it's much bigger and large sliding doors.

The area is not alive in the evening, so not many places to enjoy.

We expected a ryokan and this is what we found. The 3-room ryokan was well equipped with futons, microwave and fridge. The ryokan also offers a small but pleasant onsen. Staff were very amiable and friendly, though their English was supported by Google Translator. The place is a bit more than 1km from Hikone Castle and good restaurants.

Loved the location, very friendly staff who even organised a second bike that we could use for free. We were provided a larger room as they weren't fully booked which was lovely but the regular room would have been quite adequate. The bath was a welcome relief after long days of walking and riding. The dinner was sensational, especially the Omi beef and the eel. All round good value, a little dated, but wonderful.

This was the best place I stayed in Japan - an awesome, massive traditional room, on a wonderful traditional street (there's a fishmongers opposite that looks like something out of the 19th century). The owner couldn't have been more welcoming and he gave us a lift back to the station in his car the next morning. No lack of comfort, with aircon etc., and the lack of ensuite was no big deal.

Since many parts of the building are old, including the room in which I stayed, it took some time to get used to it.

This historic building is from the Meiji period and is situated in the preserved area. It was a very unique experience to stay in such a building of historical value. The common areas were kept clean and the toilet was modern. The owner was friendly and took me to the train station.

It's not a big problem, but just a warning that it's cash only. Lots of cash points nearby but its good to know!

Really lovely, traditional accommodation. The staff were friendly and relaxed, even gave me a lift to the station at the end of my stay. I also borrowed a bike from them to ride around the city and had some lovely views of the sunset over the lake. Everythung was clean and tidy with very nice and strong AC! Also a great location near the castle and the station, as well as being next to a shopping street with places to eat.

Thin walls, so we could hear people outside the room. But this might be normal in older Japanese houses, so it’s part of the experience.

Nothing to add here. I loved it!

Staying at this Ryokan was one of the best days I had during my vacation. It's a bit from the main station, but absolutely worth it. Also they will offer to drive you to the station when you check out for free. Great service! The room was huge and so comfortable. The private onsen can fit several people at once and I used it twice because it was so good. Also they can lend you a bike for free. I want to come back to Hikone just to stay there. And I would gladly pay more for the room. Book this place as you will not regret it.
