Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaLocation is in the middle of the markets district so the surrounding area is quiet of a night
Nice hotel. Clean and comfortable with an onsen on the top floor with views of Hakodate.

New ZealandBe aware that not all restaurants included with the breakfast vouchers are open every day, and that if you do not like eating heaps of fish then there are very limited breakfast options available.
Good location for exploring the City and convenient access to the fish market. It was great to have a washer/dryer in the room to clean our clothes.

CanadaThere was a very subtle sewage smell in the bathroom sometimes but it would disappear quickly once we turned on the fan. It could have been due to construction around the area at the time (not the hotel itself).
Location was perfect. Right next to the morning fish market and a short walk away to the brick warehouses. Room was modern and comfortable. The room was larger than what we have experienced in Japan. Staff spoke english well.

SingaporeAwesome location, right beside the market! Comfortable room and bed, the size was spacious. The breakfast was interesting as well, they work with multiple local restaurants nearby and you can choose your own breakfast (possible to top up if you want something fancier). Love the Onsen at the rooftop with both indoor and outdoor options!

Excellent location if you were to drive and park at the hotel's car park with main attractions within +/- 10 min drive. Located next to the Hakodate morning market and 7-10 min walk from JR Hakodate station. The room's 2 x single beds were large enough for 2 adults and 1 child (3 yrs old) to share.

United KingdomNothing, it was excellent.
This was a brilliant hotel. The location is perfect, minutes from the station. My room overlooked the harbour, and the view from the lounge on the 17th floor is wonderful. Very peaceful and relaxing. The complimentary washing machine in the room is a huge bonus. The bed was comfortable and very big, bathroom was great too. I was very happy here and would not hesitate to stay again.

SingaporeWould be 10/10 if there was a washer-dryer in the room.
Super location. Three minutes walk from train station. (Look up when you go out of train station, and you will see the tall building, which is Tokyu Stay Hakodate.) Next to harbour, morning market and lots of eateries just downstairs. View of sea and mountain from room - sublime.

The rooftop open-air communal bath offers a spectacular view. The location is also very convenient, with a morning market canteen nearby. The hotel provides dining vouchers for the canteen, which can be exchanged for one meal per person at any participating establishment. Each room does come with a washing machines cum drier. You can walk to the Kanemori red brick warehouse and there are many shops selling Hokkaido souvenirs.

SingaporeCheck-in was smooth and staff were always polite. Location is unbeatable. Hakodate morning market is literally at the hotel’s door step! And Lawson (24 hr convenience store) is located less than 5 min walk from hotel. The onsen within the hotel is a big bonus cos it meant we did not need to travel out and can come back to the comfort of our room quickly after bath. The view was also good. The room is clean and comfortable. Despite the compact size, it had washer+dryer, microwave oven, humidifier, kettle & mini fridge which are more than sufficient for our 3 night stay. The hotel also provides basic essentials at the lobby. One can get or replenish items like cotton pads, toothbrushes, combs, hair tie bands (for the ladies’ use during onsen) & even tea bags. Oh! There is an ice cream parlour located at the lobby which was a pleasant surprise for my kid (and me). Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Hakodate.

AustraliaThe breakfast was take a ticket to the local market. The ability to identify the shops that honored the ticket was really poor. I think the idea of supporting the local shops by the hotel is great - but if they could have those shops have a sign with a symbol (so language was not an issue) would greatly improve the arrangement. We still ate locally just paid for it from our own funds.
The location was great. The room was great. The staff were always attentive and we really liked the bar on the upper floor for the view and the free tea and coffee.

United StatesThe staff were very accomodating - after I messed up booking dates they were able to get me the room I needed on the right day at the front desk - going really above and beyond to sort it out. The bath on the top floor was amazing - especially the outdoor section looking onto the mountain at night - amazing even during below freezing temperatures. Views from the room over the rest of the city were great too.

This hotel is one of the best of the Tokyu chain that we stayed during our trip. Location is superb within 1 minute to Hakodate morning market, easy walk to other point of interests. The room was great size and has microwave, washing machine which is super convenient. The hotel also provides free ice, water, coffee and tea and their coffee was great! (not nespresso machine like other Tokyu hotels) They also have a lounge with great view and the rooftop onsen was superb. I really like the outdoor one that looks over to the ocean and during the 2 night stay I had chance to experience both onsen rooms (they swap everyday). I have a bit of tattoos but no one complained, I would say if you are nice and kind to everyone it should be ok.
