Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe hosts were so nice to us. We arrived late into Hakone and didn't have much time to get to the Hakone Ropeway and Hakone Pirate Ship and we asked the lady if she could call us a taxi. Instead, she asked her husband to drive us there which saved us so much time, it was greatly appreciated. We had dinner while we were out but when we got back, she showed us a map with restaurants and said if we wanted to go, her husband would drive us. Then she showed us our room and it was fantastic compared to our first ryokan in Kawaguchiko. The room was bigger, and our four futons were already made and there was still room for a floor table and floor cushions. We also had a private toilet and a small balcony with our own wash basin and a couple of western style chairs and another small table. Then we tried the onsen because you are able to lock it behind you if you want privacy, which suited us much better. A much better Ryokan experience for us. Highly recommended if you have never tried one before.

RomaniaAlthough there was nothing to create discomfort to me, some places start to show their age and would need a little touch-up in the near future.
The inn is splendid, Situated in a quiet part of the city, the classic Japanese building and its decorations that adorn the walls and the glass fronts give it an old, dignified air. From the tatami on the floor of the room and the Japanese-style clothes that we used for sleeping to the wonderful hot springs situated in the inn, everything was suited for our relaxation. The owners, wife and husband, were very helpful and friendly and they showed us on a map everything that we could visit in the city. When leaving, the husband was very helpful and offered to give us a car ride to the train station so we could arrive in time for our train. The room was spacious and wonderfully decorated, and its old style made us feel like we went back in time. I are really grateful and if an opportunity arises, I will definitely come back! ありがとうございました!

MalaysiaThis is a true authentic ryokan experience. The boss and his wife is very kind and helpful. Upon early arrival to the ryokan before check in time, they help us keep and clean(due to rain) our luggage and provide us a little map about the surrounding. When we come back after exploring, the luggage is already in our room waiting for us. The boss also help us to book the dinner place and drive us there for free. The decoration in their private onsen is unique and stunning, you need to experience it first hand to get the feeling. We check out on the next day, even though the boss has left to drive other customer to somewhere, his wife still give us 2 small bottles of water incase we get thirsty while walking to bus stop ourselves.

United StatesThere was nothing that I did not like about the experience.
The owners of Tsukinoya were the nicest people ever. They showed great care for their inn and to their guests. They went the extra mile to make sure that we had the best experience possible. This included giving us helpful advice and even driving my group to an amazing Sushi Place. The private outdoor Onsen was an amazing experience for my friends and myself. The room was spacious and comfy Ryokan.

United KingdomNothing at all, everything was perfect!
Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! This is a lovely, traditional ryokan. Our room (family of 4) was very spacious and comfortable, and the private use of the onsens was ideal for a family. But the best by far is the owners, they are the loveliest people! Always welcoming you with a smile and offering their help for anything. They made dinner reservations for us and even drove us to the train station at the end of our stay! All reviews I read here were completely right, hope to stay there again someday! Strongly recommend.

The owners are a beautiful elderly couple that made you feel like you were at home. They explained everything on arrival and tried their best speaking in English. They were so attentive. The room was just what I thought a ryokan would look like. And the onsen was amazing on the body after a long day travelling.

Australiathe private onsen baths were a tad too hot for us so our skin got a bit dry after, but it may have been because we were in it for quite some time.
beautiful little ryokan and the loveliest husband and wife staff! the husband was more than willing to drive us to places and and wife was super attentive around the ryokan. he even drove us to the station when we checked out and left hakone!! they really made the experience at tsukinoya so welcoming and comfortable. the location was on a smaller street near the open air museum. a quiet street but near a lawson and 7/11. we travelled by public transport, and the ryokan was located about 10 minute walk away from the station up and down some hills.

AustraliaThe hosts were incredible. Helping us reserve dinner, providing lifts to the bus stop and going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The location is quiet with access to trains and buses taking you to Mt.Fuji and transfer stations. The room was perfect - bigger than expected with a private toilet and eating area. Within the hotel is 2 private onsen's which were a great way to wind down after walking and sightseeing.

United KingdomReally nice place. The private onsen is beautiful and totally matches the profile picture. It was a real pleasure to use it in the evening. The room was big, very big and beautifully decorated. I loved the hanging scrolled that was there. It was superb. The owners are adorable and extremely helpful, they offered to handle our dinner reservation, to drive us back to the station when we left with our luggage. Extremely nice people who makes this place worth the stay.

United StatesHaving to leave!
The staff service was exceptional, truly above and beyond. They took us to a local restaurant for dinner, and arranged transportation home. The next day they took us to our first stop of the day. They were so friendly and helpful. The hot springs rooms are so fun and relaxing. We loved the special decoration hot spring ;) the traditional beds were very comfortable and cozy. Lots of hot water for delicious tea was provided. such a great experience and we'd happily come back.

United KingdomDecor was a bit dated, but not unexpected as it was an original, old style ryoken.
Run by a lovely, helpful couple, who were happy to arrange a meal and drive us to and from the restaurant. This was good as we arrived late and hadn't reserved a restaurant. The rooms were clean, but in room facilities only included a toilet and a wash basin. Showers were only available in the Onsen rooms, but this did not worry us or stop us from enjoying our stay.

ItalyWe had an amazing stay at Tsukinoya. The owners are super nice and very welcoming. They made reservation for us at a nearby restaurant, drove us there (with a small detour to show amazing cherry blossom we would have never seen otherwise) and organise for the staff at the restaurant to drive us back. The lady gave us a change of hot water twice a day for the green tea and was super sweet. She even remembered what shoes we wore and got them ready any time we would go out. A wonderful hospitality all around! The japanese style room was massive and very comfortable! The private onsen was incredible! Such an amazing experience for a very good value money wise! I would definitely stay here again!

They helped us reserved restaurant, guided us there, and when we need to go places the husband always offered to drive us. He drove us to the open air museum and even offered to drive us to the train station and making sure we’re okay while seeing us off. You will feel like have gained another pair of grand parents!

I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful accommodation. The onsens are so good and private use is great. The room was large and impeccably clean and quiet. This place is fantastic! It’s run by a lovely elderly couple who are so incredibly helpful and sweet - they booked all our dinners for us, the husband drove us to and from the restaurants both nights we stayed (!), he also drove us to the Open Air Museum, and even took us to the pharmacy late one night for some ibuprofen! It made it so much easier because there are very few taxis in Hakone. The onsen is gorgeous and has a good system to ensure everyone gets their own time (you lock yourself in and put your shoes out so people know not to come in) and the room is warm and comfortable. There’s also an endless supply of green tea in the room, yum!
