Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandThe locations isnt in the tourist center but the bus takes you in about 20min to the tourist sights.
Very modern and clean, has all the facilities you need (i wish there was a gym however). This place seemed popular with alot of Japanese, Koreans and Chinese. Few westerners. I really enjoyed staying here. There is free beer/highball and coffee/snacks everyday. Nice traditional breakfast. Aeon mall is close by for shopping.

United StatesI have no complaints. Very happy with my stay. I'll definitely be back.
I loved staying here. It was the perfect mix of an "old style" ryokan and modern. The facilities were extremely clean. The beds were a great size. The food was great. Super happy.

United StatesProperty was well located and close to a train station, and only one stop from kyoto station. The property also had amazing amenities like free snacks and drinks. The different themes of each floor, e.g. games, music, drinks/coffee were also very nice. The staff were so helpful.

IndonesiaAlmost everything was perfect here! There were a few minor setbacks, but the overall experience was one of the best we had while traveling. - Staff were all friendly and helpful, but we couldn't reserve a taxi through the front office. We had to do that through taxi / ride-sharing apps instead, and for someone who doesn't have any of these installed for one reason or another, being able to book a taxi without installing an application would be nice. - Not a lot of food places and options around the area. - Not necessarily a bad thing since it's part of the concept, but apparently even though all rooms come with a private toilet, not all have a shower / bathtub (you have to use the public bath). So if that's something you're concerned about, be sure to check that the room you want to book has what you're looking for.
+ Location was close to JR Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station, which was just 1 stop away from Kyoto Station. Easy to transfer to other lines. This station was also very accessibility-friendly with escalators and elevators available, and the walk from the station to the hotel was also very flat - so bringing our luggage around was easy! It's also right next to the Kyoto Aquarium (kid-friendly!) and within Umekoji Park. We managed catch the various sakura and plum trees in their pre-full bloom states and the view was already incredible! + Convenient store nearby. + The hotel is new and quite modern, and there are so many things you can explore and activities you can do here! There are kids' play area, a quiet reading area, an audio room, a free-flow bar for alcohol and other beverages, free snacks, making your own coffee, coin laundry (only 3 machines though), and a public bath segregated for men and women. They also had an in-house fermentation factory next to it so you can enjoy the public bath and have a drink afterwards. + Congestion level for breakfast, laundry, and public bath can be monitored through the room's TV. + Breakfast was excellent and although the variety didn't change by much day-to-day, the taste and quality were great. + Comfortable lounge set you can use within the hotel premise. + Great for families with young children.

AustraliaOnly three laundry machines so it was hard to get one when it wasn't in use. However the hotel TV does tell you whether the machines are free!
Loved this hotel. So thoughtful and comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, the drinks room and music room were great. We had a lovely view of the park from our room, and had a great time watching the locals (and their dogs!) enjoy hanami. The location is great for visiting Arashiyama, and is only one train stop or a short bus ride to central Kyoto. Staff were great and helped us ship our luggage to our next hotel.

United KingdomA bit far from some of the sights but totally worth it for the facilities and comfort. For our family it was perfect. The hotel pyjamas are amazing but too expensive for us to take home and we wish we would have them. So cute!
The free coffee and drinks, all the little extra rooms for hanging out. The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable but we made use of the music room and library too. Sense of calm throughout, beautiful views through all windows and located next to a park for the kids to explore. We love this hotel. The hotel is super stylish yet completely comfortable and home like. The staff are excellent. Cannot fault this place, plus it was my first Japanese onsen- wow- I went everyday and loved it.

MalaysiaThe choice of food in the cafe was limited. Perhaps if you could have more food variety, that would be better. And the taste of the food was also average, could be better.
I love the free alcohol beverage session from 3pm to 10pm daily with free flow of red wine, white wine, highball, and beer with some snacks.. really a big plus points for this hotel, and I also love the shower in the room..

CanadaThe lack of a bathtub in the rooms isn’t ideal. The breakfast is very costly for someone who doesn’t really eat breakfast. Unless you’re going to gorge the price isn’t justified.
Loved the location, the park next door was quiet and beautiful and filled with cute dogs. The proximity to Kyoto station without being in a busy part of the city can’t be beat. Especially since the train is so easy to get to from the hotel. The rooms are huge and clean and comfortable. The cafe was great. The hotel is very family friendly.

United StatesEmbodying a contemporary atmosphere both inside and outside, the hotel surprisingly caters to families, resembling a lively scene with kids everywhere. It can get a bit noisy for couples seeking a quieter setting. The breakfast was delightful on day one, but by the second day, it got a bit dull as they served almost identical dishes with just a few tweaks.
The hotel is one train stop from Kyoto station, nestled in a park with an aquarium nearby. Dreamt of swimming with dolphins. Family Mart is just a minute stroll away. The train station can zip you to Arashiyama in around 15 minutes without any transfers—a must-visit spot. The hotel is tidy, new, and has a modern yet laid-back vibe. They've got a public onsen, but it's a tad small and often bustling with kids. Got complimentary beer, wine, and coffee—a first for me in hotels. Hoping more follow suit. The room boasts a patio, but it was a bit chilly to hang out. Spacious enough for four full-sized luggages, and the separate sink, toilet, and shower are a nice touch.
