    Pillows could have been firmer.

We liked that after 24 hours, it felt like home. Also the local Onsen and fish were amazing. The town was peaceful and quiet. The scenery was unforgettable.

Wonderful getaway in a small, fishing town in Izu. All mod cons in an authentic Japanese house.

In the house, nothing really needed changing. Being super picky, maybe a headboard for the double bed which was against the exterior wooden sliding windows, and the bath is maybe be a bit small for some non-Japanese used to full length baths (this visitor found it great though - deep and hot). But these are issues because of the nature of being in an authentic, old Japanese house. The town of Heda itself is not blessed with dining options (ie,. within walking distance), but the crab/seafood restaurant recommend by the owner was excellent. There is a cool cafe with great views, craft beer and (limited but) reasonable food.

A fantastic place to relax in an authentic old Japanese house with discreet modern touches. Having the whole, fully-equipped house was great, as was the atmosphere the house exuded. 2 minutes from the harbour in the beautiful working fishing town of Heda was also a bonus. The sunset each night was amazing, the walks around the small town were also relaxing and interesting. The owner was very efficient (English messages and English labels in the house) and we had absolutely no issues finding the place, getting access, and staying there. Ideal for couples or family with grown up kids, or even someone wanting to get away from it all while doing some remote work. We (two) went in February (cold) - and old, Japanese wooden houses can be pretty chilly - but we really loved the kotatsu (low table with heater below and covered with a futon), the heating in the main rooms was fine, and the bedding was perfect.

The second time I've stayed. This time we made full use of the local onsen (hot spring).
