It's a bit of a walk getting to/from public transportation. Not a big issue for me as I was expecting to walk a lot while there, but something to be aware of.

Both hosts were very friendly and had many great recommendations for sightseeing as well as options for vegan food all over Kyoto. Every breakfast I had while there was delicious, and the room was beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. If I go to Kyoto in the future, I'd definitely stay here again.

Craig and Helen were lovely hosts and keen to help get us settled into Kyoto. They were full of advise and tips on where to visit and eat around town and this was very helpful particularly looking for restaurant that served vegan food. The breakfast they prepared each day was amazing and varied each day. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable each with an ensuite which was not something we'd experience before in a traditional Japanese room.

It’s located in a residential area that’s not super close to main attractions. But it wasn’t a big deal, as the weather was great and I enjoyed the walks to/from points of interest.

Tasty and healthy breakfast, friendly owners, possibility to do laundry, and a very nice/clean room!

    Loved it all!

I can not emphasise enough how great this place and the owners Craig and Helen are. The inn is beautifully decorated in a traditional style, and everywhere is exceptionally clean! The hosts are very personable, friendly, and a great laugh, with great local knowledge and recommendations for places to visit and places to eat. They kindly let us use the washing machine and store our luggage all day on our final day in Kyoto. There has to be a special shout-out for the breakfasts because they were incredible, and the wheat dumplings were a strong favourite of ours. 100% recommend whether vegan, veggie or not.

The property is up a hill and a bit removed from the main location. However, I felt very safe traveling alone (at night and in the day time) and was quickly able get a hang of the route.

Very nice, clean room and spacious bath tub, which is nice to have after exploring Kyoto all day. The owners are friendly and prepare a delicious and filling breakfast, during which you may be greeted by the cats that also live there.

The vibe was excellent, we were looking for a Ryokan experience and this did not disappoint. The vegan breakfasts were amazing and dietary needs were discussed and respected by Craig and Helen. The location is excellent being slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the major tourist attractions but close enough to walk or taxi. Craig was super helpful with our luggage transfers to and from Tokyo (best way to travel on a Shinkansen is without big luggage) and he and Helen provided a lot of helpful advice in finding local activities and meals. Highly recommend!!!

Though the location was ideal for my own trip, that might not be true for everyone. If you are a vegan it is a must visit, and one of not a lot of choices I imagine.

Excellent vegan breakfast, very friendly and personable staff. Rooms very nice, bathroom also, all around great atmosphere. Kiyomizudera, Tofukuji Temple and Senyuu-ji Temple are all about 15-30 minutes walking distance, while Fushimi Inari Taisha is about 40 minutes.

See above (bit cold in the room, moderate Wifi) - nothing to complain really.

The rooms were a reasonable size and had a balcony. Unfortunately, it got a little colder in the room in mid-November, but there is AC with heating. Wifi was okay—not the fastest, but still good enough. The breakfast was very tasty. Helen and Craig cook a mix of different dishes every morning, all vegan. You sit comfortably together with other guests and have a chat with their two cats around. Hosts are very open and share great vegetarian food recommendations and sights. After a few days of traveling, it felt great to talk about all Japanese curiosities and a bit of history with native English-speaking hosts. A big plus for us was the free use of their wash machine.

Helen and Craig are very nice and thoughtful hosts. They were very kind, one of the days I had to leave before breakfast time so I would miss it and they made sure I had something delicious I could take away the next morning so that made me very happy. All of the products they use are vegan (soap, conditioner, shampoo, etc). My room had a huge closet and I could fit my suitcases in it so they weren’t in the middle of the room, I had a little balcony and private bathroom in my room which is very rare in B&B. They offer Japanese style breakfast, made with love and it has all the details, it was so delicious and filling. I stayed with a non vegan japanese friend and he even said he would turn vegan if he could get that food everyday!☺️ I wish I stayed for longer in Kyoto! I’ll be back💜🌱

It's just a detail, but the light in the room could be a bit less white.

Staying at Vegan Minshuku felt like being at home. The atmosphere is very relaxed and calm. Helen and Craig are very kind and eager to help answering all the questions related to Kyoto. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the room very comfortable. The location is also very good, not too far from the railway station and pretty close to some of the main temples in Kyoto. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful “home away from home” in a quiet, residential pocket of Kyoto, still within walking distance of many attractions such as Gion, Fushimi Inari etc. Rooms are clean, comfortable and attractive. Hosts Craig and Helen are warm and friendly, helpful whenever you need it, and cook up a fantastic communal breakfast. We are not vegan but loved everything about this place, including the chance to meet other travellers. Recommend!
