Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI initially booked a "Superior Double" room that I later learned did not have a window or balcony door that opened. I upgraded to a room with a balcony as soon as I became aware, so I never saw the original room. This may have been fine for others, but wouldn't have worked for me (as someone who always books the window seat because I need to be able to look outside), and there was no mention of this on Booking.com, so I add this note for the benefit of future users.
I really enjoyed my stay at this boutique hotel. The room was extremely clean and modern, and the bed was VERY comfortable. Kyoto sites are generally pretty spread out, but this hotel was nicely located for walks to Nijo Castle, The Imperial Palace, Nishiki Market and along Kamo River to the Shimogamo Shrine (all of which were recommended by Front Desk staff). It was also very close (<5 mins) to a couple of subway lines, one of which I took from Kyoto Station to the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

United StatesLocation was fine as it is centrally located and we could wander and find some nice hole in the wall local places away from the tourist areas. Next time would likely choose a different location - but be hard to pass up on this hotel.

United StatesIt doesn't have in-house dining, HOWEVER, it has an incredible Whisky Bar and the staff will heat foods up for you as well as help coordinate Uber Eats and other food Delivery services. There are also tons of great restaurants right around the hotel.
Incredibly clean and well designed hotel in a fantastic neighborhood. Close to Gion and other sites but not in a touristy section of town. It also has great access to public transportation. Showers in all classes of rooms are incredible.

AustraliaIf we stayed here again we would hire bikes to explore the city and nearby neighbourhoods. This would be a fantastic way of getting around, and the hotel is in a perfect position to act as a base for exploring.
The friendly, helpful staff really elevate this from a standard stay to a terrific experience. We loved the special welcome, help with local recommendations and assistance with organising Takhuiban to our next hotel in a remote mountain village. Although the location is a little quieter than other parts of Kyoto, we loved exploring the nearby cafes and restaurants and had no difficulties reaching the major attractions on foot or just a couple of stops on the subway. We actually loved retreating back to our little quiet street after a day amongst the crowds. We fell in love with Kyoto and can't wait to come back and stay here again.

United StatesThe maisonette room in particular, the location of power plugs to charge devices is a bit lacking and inconvenient. I have stayed in other rooms here though which I did not recall having this issue (but it has been many years, I may have forgotten). In particular, more charging options should be near the bed--as we are a very digital society now, especially as travelers, we will be using phones or tablets for communication and research before bed and also use as alarms. So having a number of charging options near the bed so we can keep devices fresh and nearby is important. Another thought is if possible to have more pillow options. The pillows deflate easily with weight. This is a bit more of an issue for side sleepers as they do not support our neck and result in less comfortable sleep and stiffer neck and shoulder in the morning (I did try and stack them, no it did not help). I think this is not as big of an issue for back-sleepers. Also, this is getting very nitpicky, but maybe more TV channels? :)
The bath area of the maisonette is large and very relaxing at the end of the day, although 2 chairs would have been better instead of just 1. The robes provided are comfortable and appreciated. It is right next door to a bakery that makes delicious coffee and pastries (savories and sweet). The staff is super polite and helpful, and recommended some places to eat nearby (which were very good). Even helped us make reservations. Hard to quantify is that the staff made us feel especially comfortable. They would take their time to help us and make calls as needed even if it would take a bit longer, but at the same time if they notice someone nearby waiting (for a small ask) someone would notice and quickly assist them w/o making us feel rushed. Same thing when we are waiting while someone else is assisted, they would notice and help us quickly if its small. Other hotels even for small quick things sometimes you simply have to wait your turn (understandable of course) or inadvertently made to feel rushed if people are waiting behind you. Perhaps because this hotel is smaller or maybe the staff have higher EQ, but result is that it feels especially easy to talk to the staff and ask for assistance when needed.

United StatesThe breakfast is substantial! More food and variety than I was expecting and more than I could eat. It was delivered to our room at exactly the time we requested. The staff was extremely kind and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The bathroom is huge with lots of counter space and storage. The shower and bathtub are HUGE. So much space in the room itself. The room was quiet and the AC perfect! We rode the subway everywhere and it was so easy and close. Favorite restaurant is a 1 minute walk. Okonomiyaki Hikari? You can watch the chef put on a show. This was a hidden gem recommended by the bartender.
