Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaThe overhead space in top stairs compartment was too less. If one needs to go to washroom in middle of the night its too difficult to get down.

CanadaNothing - we enjoyed all of it.
We enjoyed all aspects of this stay. The room was comfortable, there were extra spaces to use to lounge, the onsen was private and wonderful to use, and the breakfast was exceptional. The house was designed and decorated with family items which was super cool to experience. And the owner was exceptionally sweet - very thoughtful.

United KingdomThe ladders in the room are a little tight and steep, but you can get up and down them with a bit of effort.
This guesthouse is as good as it looks! A perfect location right next to a bus-stop, with a lovely view of the side of the mountain from the rooms. The house is immaculately kept and amazing interior design, and the rooms are huge and feel very comfy. The onsen is fantastic too, I ddin't realise how much I'd like having access to a private one until I tried it! The host went above and beyond for me too - I had to request a last minute late check-in, which she was happy to accomodate. Not only that, as she knew I had a rough journey, she booked the private onsen for me for an hour once I was at the house, without me asking! Truly the mark of a fantastic host. A perfect place to stay, reflecting the best of Japan and the natural beauty of Hakone.

A fabulous traditional Japanese ryokan with a wonderful private onsen. We slept like logs, ate like kings and felt thoroughly revitalised after just two days. The home cooked breakfasts were delicious!

United StatesIt's important to note that the hotel is quite a distance up the mountain. This worked perfectly for us as we planned to head up in that direction anyway, but a bus and/or train ride is required for almost any activity. The main bus line runs regularly, but may take quite a bit longer than the schedule indicates when crowded. Our room was probably one of the more rustic ones, so a few lady bugs are also to be expected and the humidity made it difficult for towels to fully dry sometimes but we we really appreciated being able to control our own heat and air to help with this.
We loved our time at Mori No Yado. Kumiko is an amazing hostess and provided a wonderful breakfast as well as great recommendations for us for appropriate activities every day. I feel like we experienced the best of what Hakone had to offer - from hiking in the mountains to shrines by the lake to water parks and souvenir shopping on a rainy day. Guests are provided a private hour in the traditional onsen at the end of every day, which was a phenomenal experience and definitely a highlight of our entire visit to Japan. There were nice perks as well, like a shared shoe dryer and common lounge area for games. Kumiko even provided us fresh towels at the end of our third day, and we noticed the rooms were professionally cleaned as other guests checked out. It was a beautiful space to rest and enjoy for 4 full nights.

We love the rustic feel and the beautiful location, thought it was a bit of a windy drive to get there. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. We booked a large room which is great for families. The private onsen was amazing and the breakfast was great as well. The host was very accommodating because we arrived late and was able to change our onsen reservation time. Would highly recommend!

RomaniaBe careful if you do not come by car, the Hakone buses have a very limited schedule and on some portions it is impossible to walk (no sidewalks, narrow road). Of course this is not the hosts' fault, it's just the way Hakone is.
Very nice guesthouse with a private bath that we enjoyed. The hosts were very nice and helpful. Also, nice parlor where you can play music and socialize.

New ZealandEverything! We were so lucky to have stayed here. It's clean and tidy, outside the main tourist areas so it's nice and quiet, Kuniko the owner is very kind, speaks excellent English and gave us lots of info for sightseeing, the breakfast was amazing, the bus stops outside the driveway and top that all off with a super relaxing private onsen. United StatesThere was no elevator to go up, so if you have a big suitcase, you won't be able to go up. (That was the case for me, and I had to leave it at the lobby) The stair to the loft was steep so elderly, disabled, and small children may not be able to go up. The ceiling in the loft was very low, and at first, I kept bumping my head. I got used to it and end up with liking it, but this may not be the case for everybody.
I love the serenity and spaciousness of the room. The room I stayed had a loft to sleep. Futon there was so comfortable, and the simplicity of the room gave me the peace and comfort. I had a very good sleep! The hour of private assignment of the bath was great! Very relaxing and luxurious.
