Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaLocation is close to at cable car station and the cable cars close around 6 so it is difficult to return to the place after 6, and most dinner restaurants are closer to Gora station.
Was told the room would be small, but was bigger than I expected. Very simple room with all you needed, only thing I would have wanted was a window. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Onsen was great and relaxing.

AustraliaThe onsen you could book was so hot that we couldn’t really get in it! Apparently that is the temperature of the water straight from the source. The location is a little out of the way so tricky to find somewhere for dinner at night as most public transport stops about 5pm.
We stayed three nights and were lucky to be upgraded to a large apartment with plenty of space for our family of four. Staff were kind and helpful.

AustraliaThe location is difficult, but as far as I've seen Hakone in general is like this. The cleanliness was fine, it was quite comfortable and overall the facilities were just ok.
The hospitality was so good, for me it's the main thing making the place so loveable. I felt welcomed there and as if the workers there consider me a friend.

CanadaIf you don’t plan out your dinner ahead, it can be a little tricky to find something before everything closes. That is fine though, since I was already aware of the location.

United StatesThe way that gora is structured as a town makes staying in an accommodation like this challenging. Typically you stay in a ryokan and go out during the day then return to eat dinner at your hotel, but for a hotel that doesn’t have dinner you have to go pretty far to find somewhere to eat, and getting back can be tricky as your options for transit are much more limited after dinner time.
Nice Japanese style rooms with large comfy futons. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The onsen was clean and relaxing.

SwitzerlandThe room was quite small and there is no bathroom outside of the private Onsen. This is not particularly bad, but I have expected otherwise and it could be mentioned more prominently in the description of the ho(s)tel.
The hosts were wonderful and welcomed us warm-heartedly to their house. We got restaurant recommendations (of which unfortunately all were closed, but that's not the hosts fault) and got directions to get around in Hakone. The private Onsen is also pretty nice.

TurkeyRoom was cold (April) you need to wait for the air conditioning to het the room warm. Location is near the cable car station but the cable car do not work after 16:45. Buses are also severe, It is mountain region so it is necessary to walk up and downhill to any possible transportation stops or call a taxi. Calling taxi is difficult if your phone line is inactive or you are using e-sim. There is no restaurant or convenience store nearby.

JapanNothing much but I’d like to suggest some improvements. 1. The location of the property is in a small lane, and can be difficult to spot. I’d suggest an exact google pin for the same, along with some pics of surrounding roads to take. 2. The windows near the double beds were not air-tight. It was windy outside and during the night, one could feel the cold air coming it from somewhere. The rooms had a hot air blowers so it wasn’t much of an issue.
1. The host, Tammy, was very communicative and responsive. She provided her WhatsApp number for fast communication which helped as I had to confirm with her for a few things, and she responded with super fast response every time. 2. The property was super clean. It had a small indoor onsen. It was nice to have it for yourself - you can book it for private use. It’s useful for those for whom first time onsen experience can be overwhelming. 3. We were 7 people including the kids and an infant. But Tammy thought that booking was made for 7 people excluding kids. She was constantly worried that the rooms we booked would be small for us. So she offered the whole 10 bed mixed dorm to us, which had 2 double beds and 4-5 bunk beds. Kids loved the bunk beds. It was very considerate of her. 4. There is ample parking for 4-5 cars.

FranceThe manager is adorable and I am surprised she gets some bad comments. Yes the toilets are shared and you have to book the Onsen (lovely + can be shared as a hetero couple where other onsen are public but separated per gender) but this is explicit at the reservation, same as the time for checking in. The room was the most beautiful and authentic we have seen since a very long time and an absolute pleasure staying there. Do take the hakone free pass and plan ahead for some dinner food, and you will have a wonderful time!

AustraliaThe location is great, especially if you have the hakone free pass. Your need to take the cable car/fernicular train up the hill a few stops above Gora. They come often so it was good for us. We had two little kids with us and they were welcomed and had a good stay. The baby loved crawling on the tatami mats. The onsen was really nice after a cold day doing the hakone loop.

JapanEverything was great but price was bit high for the peak time of travel.
I recently stayed at the property and had a wonderful time. It is conveniently located near the Kami-gora cable car station, providing easy access to Gora and Owakudani via Saunzan. The hotel itself is just a minute's walk away from the cable car station, which is perfect for those without a car. One minor inconvenience was the lack of transportation options after the cable car stops running, but this is a known issue in Hakone. I believe it would be beneficial for the hotel to offer cab services, even if at a cost, to provide guests with more flexibility in exploring the area. The highlight of my stay was the private onsen. I enjoyed two evenings of relaxation in the soothing hot water. On the first day, the water was extremely hot, but on the second day, it was lukewarm. As this was my first onsen experience, I was unsure of the optimal water temperature. Nonetheless, it was a unique and enjoyable experience. The bathroom facilities were well-stocked with shampoo and other necessities, although I found it surprising that there was no private bathroom. However, the shared bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. On the third floor, there were one toilet and two urinals for men, and two toilets for women. I cannot speak for other floors. Despite the clouds obscuring the view from my room, I still had a great experience at the property. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Hakone.

United KingdomIt could’ve been a little more warmer. The reception area was so cold, would be more appealing if on entry the area was heated. Our room was toasty once it was heated, but the building itself was cold as was the bathroom, which was off putting for visits to the bathroom in the night, if these areas had some sort of heating then there’s no issues at all. Other than that we loved our time here, it was very convenient to going either visiting Mount Fuji or to go to the Hakone Open Air Museum - which are both a must see, just breath taking... The host was so lovely too

JapanThe only available rooms on booking.com were a small double and a single (family of 3), but it seems like if we had asked closer to the booking date we would have been able to get a group room big enough for the 3 of us. My mom has a bad knee so I also should have checked for a lower floor room, we were on the third floo r.
The owner was very kind and even offered to drive us to the nearby restaurant. My parents loved the private onsen, one of the highlight of their visit.
