Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Australiathe futon mattresses were not comfortable and apartment a little tight for a family of 4 adults but since it was an overnight stay we didn't mind.
Located in Moto Hakone, right in the town centre next to the lake. There are many food options around it. Decent, budget accomodation.

Very good location. The place is pretty central, within 1-2min walk to Lawson, with a 7-11 about 5min walk away. It’s also pretty close (~5min walk) to the ferry terminal that’s included in the Hakone Free Pass. There’s a direct bus here from Hakone-Yumoto (also covered under free pass). Moto-Hakone Ko isn’t a very big town in the first place, but the property’s location makes things a lot easier. Also, Lake Ashi is 1min walk away, it’s a breathtaking view. A washing machine and detergent is included, which is very helpful, but no hangers :( There were enough chairs to make do, though. An entire kitchen is provided, cutlery, knife, pan, a stove etc. but probably won’t need them since it’s pretty hard to come by groceries in the area and there are decent looking food places nearby (which open late at 11am and close early around 2.30-3pm in Dec at least). Place felt very spacious (for 2 ppl) and looked very much like the pictures. There are futons for 4, but you’d have to extend into the living room area to accommodate that many. There are also 2 aircons/heaters, 1 in the sleeping area and 1 in the dining area, made the place nice and toasty. Check-in was a very smooth process, passcode for the key sent early in the morning of check-in as well as a Google maps link to the place.

MalaysiaI like everything. We fell in love with Hakone.
We were lucky to be able to book this place quite last minute and it didn’t disappoint. The location couldn’t be any better. Very central and close to the Ashi Lake. Ample space for 2 adults and 2 kids. The heater worked great during autumn. Beautiful view from the balcony. Very reasonable price and worth the money. They have dedicated parking space. There’s a convenience store nearby. So bummed we didn’t get the chance to stay longer.

SingaporeHost not very responsive, only last minute know info how to get into place so can be stressful. And also good to have some hangers for clothes. same for bathroom , to have some hooks to hang clothes and towel.
the location very near Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine, so was a lovely walk around Lake Ashi, beautiful scenery. The 7-11 was great too, with good stock of beers and bread. And do take a walk to the Park, and walk to pavillon to see Mount Fuji.

AustraliaSleeping on the floor on the thin futon wasn’t too comfortable. It was our first time sleeping like this so I’m not sure if the futons are always so thin - like a quilt, but safe to say we won’t be repeating this experience again. 3 futons only just fit in the space. We used a pillow to help with comfort but it didn’t really help.
Great location, nice and clean. Good sized kitchen / dining - we could store our luggage there as well as there was no space in the bedroom.

United StatesThe place lists 4 beds. We were 3 adults and it was ok but I can’t imagine putting one more person in there. The beds were set up for 2 in the bedroom and we had to move the tables and chairs from the dining room ourselves to make the bed for the third person. After the “remodeling” there was no more room to move around. The toilet room had a strange smell and the bathroom needs to be cleaned. There were brown dirty marks on the sink, shower and bathtub. Would be helpful to post pictures of outside of the building, to make it easier for guests to find it.
Great location. Many restaurants close by and plenty of activities. Easy check in/ checkout since it is a self check in place.

GermanyMain areas/utensils were fine but for my own preferances the room could’ve been cleaner. There was dust and dirt here and there around the corners, hidden areas such as around the washing machine. If you’re not too fuzzy about it you will probably not mind.
Location is great: 5min from Motohakone bus stop and actually easy to find with Google; it’s one of the KOI HAKONE apartments. 2min to Lake Ashi, 4min to where the Pirate ships arrive, 9min to Heiwa No Torii. Retaurants and cafés just right there. Beware that a lot of them have early closing times (3:30PM - 5PM, some 06:00PM and only very few open until 9:30PM) but you won’t starve, convenience store is just around the corner. Area is quiet yet central. Self check-in was easy, you will receive a message from the owner before your stay with info to your aparmtent and key. The rooms are separated into 3 (kitchen/entrance, living room and tatami area) by sliding walls + toilet and bathroom. It’s quite spacious. They also provided tooth brushes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and face wash so we didn’t need to buy everything. Futon bedding was comfortable and clean. We slept very well. For the low price it was great value!

AustraliaThere were not sufficient instructions how to get there. could easily mention 2 houses passed the corner intersection, plus that it is on second floor. The google map showing "within 40 meters", is not sufficient (it shows the shrine before the corner). We walked around for 2 hours looking for it!! not acceptable.

I was surprised by how good the location was, we could see the Hakone Torii from the window, having parking made it even better since we did need to spend money with parking (that can be a bit expensive in certain locations in Japan).

United StatesThe communication moving up to the point of starting my stay, as we were a LITTLE unsure on the legitimacy of the actual property. Being on Booking offers some security but we were still a little paranoid since there wasn't much for communication prior to the stay beginning.
The location was perfect, tied with the overall value of the location made it an excellent choice. Mt. Fuji is RIGHT there, less than a 5 minute walk away. Seriously recommend this place for a quick travel reset.
