How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Sometimes got lost going from east to west wing but oh well....
Got upgraded to bigger room and very comfy bed. Got public onsen that can be used privately. Provide snacks and comprehensive breakfast. Close to train station.

The private spa is great. The breakfast was fantastic and dinner was good value. Free drinks in the lounge, amazing. Great place to stay!

Although the breakfast is good, I think it needs more "continental" options. I couldn't find stuff I'd expect to find (such as ham and cheese)
Hotel has nice amenities, has complementary drinks and desserts, staff is friendly, rooms are large and comfortable. Hotel also provided umbrellas because it started raining

Big room, super nice amenities inside the hotel, private onsen and public ones, plus a nice library with comfy places to read, sweets and drinks. The beds are traditional but with a mattress, so if you have bad knees, take into consideration, very comfy but low in height. Very close to the train station and ropeway to go to the lake.

Even though we loved the breakfast offering, the space for the buffet breakfast is a little small for the amount of people, as well as the staff to work in.
The breakfast was amazing, the offering was vast, delicious and thoughtful. The outside fire and the foot spa is beautiful. The whole facility is wonderfully clean and up to date modern, but still with traditional feel. The library and snack bar is perfect for travellers after a day of touring. Very family friendly place. Amazing range of beverages to choose from. Even English Manga, which I did not expect. It is very thoughtful. Loved the onsen. Very special place with life long memories for our family.

The Staff were very welcoming and helpful. I am a vegetarian and they catered well for my requirement. Superb location with Train station nearby and easy access to the Hakone Loop System. Also very near to the Gora Gardens and the Open Air muesuem. Food was excellent too. Relaxed atmosphere

The hotel is divided to few complexes, it is big and designed nicely- we stayed at the same complex as the reception and breakfast. Onsen can be reached via connecting stairway and was very nice (indoor only). Walking distance to hakone open air museum. Staff are welcoming and helpful - we enjoyed our stay!

Onsen and snacks and buffet great. Very stylish place with only a few minutes to transport, park and museum. Many extras, the communal area and the Onsen are beautiful. Love the foot bath and fire place outside.

Nothing - it was dreamy!
Luxury stay in a very comfortable hotel. Free snacks, sweets and drinks are available in the very comfortable communal areas throughout the day. Public and private onsen are very relaxing and you get given a gown to wear around the hotel which adds to the feeling of luxury. Breakfast is amazing - everything you could think of (both Japanese and Western) is available!

A big cockroach came from behind the toilet in the bathroom and started to run around, then disappeared. The bathroom was not especially clean.
