Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyAmazing stay. The private onsen was always the highlight of our day. Room was in traditional Japanese style yet quiet and comfortable. The owner was so kind and lovely. We would definitely recommend to stay here for more than 1 night to truly relax and enjoy bicycling around the lake.

SwedenThe beds were very hard.
The lady who ran it was super nice, and she made our stay more enjoyable. The public chat was also really nice, and I liked that you reserved the bath for your group, so you don't have to share with strangers.

Hong KongIt is a bit difficult to get to after getting off the bus from Tokyo with all the luggage. Understand that every room has designated bath time, but it would be nicer if we could have a bit longer bath time to enjoy especially when it's cold.
The host is very friendly and helpful. She arranged the room with a Mt. Fuji view for us and gave us all the tips about the area. Rental bicycles are available and the quality of their bicycles is excellent. Cycling around the lake is the best way to explore the area.

IrelandIt’s a traditional Japanese home with a very friendly and helpful hostess. The bedroom was lovely & well-heated. The 45 minutes booked in the onsen was a real treat. The property is really close to the lake and to plenty of restaurants and convenience stores. There is a facility to use a microwave & a kettle in a dining area in the house.

JapanNo complaints!
The hostess honestly made the stay fantastic. Her attitude was so welcoming, she explained the facilities in simple Japanese for us, and gave us recommendations not only for the town, but for the Fuji area as well. I've stayed in a few ryokans before, but this was the best experience by far. We also had the Fuji-view room, which I recommend getting! We went in the late fall for viewing leaves in town, so it got quite chilly at night, but the room stayed toasty. I slept so well. The bath was also spacious, good amenities, and just the right amount of time to stay in.

SingaporeThe host was very kind, she made changes to her schedule to accommodate my check in after a tiring Mount Fuji climb. The place is very clean, and the view from the room is superb. The bathroom was very clean. I complained of a weird smell in the room and the host immediately let me change to another room. This is the perfect retreat, and I will definitely be back. Oh, I can see Mount Fuji when I’m brushing my teeth, when it’s not cloudy. It’s also walking distance to Lake Yamanaka.

RomaniaWe enjoyed the classical japanese room. The host was very friendly and helpful. Yabukiso is around 9 minutes from the closest bus station. From certain areas you can see Mt. Fuji from the house. We used the public bath from the house , rented a bike and had an overall nice experience near lake Yamanaka.

Our stay was short but very nice. The owner was super nice and kind. She was caring and made sure that we were aware of the surrounding sites and restaurants. Although we didn't have time to explore the area, we had a great stay at Yabukiso. We enjoyed the public bath a lot. Each group of guests get 45 minutes to use the "private" public bath and they cleaned the bath in the following 15 minutes. All the facilities were super clean and organized. We also enjoyed the traditional tatami room a lot. If you are looking for a quiet neighborhood to stay, I really recommend Yabukiso!
