Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

This property is incredibly special. Tucked away from the busy (and conveniently located) streets nearby, Yado Kiramachi felt like a true retreat. The staff was wonderful, responsive and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was pleasant. The rooms are spacious, bed was very comfortable and the outdoor onsen was a treat after long days of exploring. Yado Kiramachi is true hospitality, and one of our favorite hotels. We will surely be back.

SwitzerlandThe only small negative, which might be an issue for elderly, are the extricated stairs to go up for the duplex room.
Traditional Japanese house in the heart of Kyoto! Beautiful place, confortable with all amenities. Nice staff and well located .

United KingdomThis ryokan is a gem! Everything was great even before we arrived. The staff has been super helpful (thank you again Tada), the village is in a calm street away from noise but still close to the subway, the room was amazing all wooden and traditional, the private wooden onsen outside was gorgeous, and the list goes on… Highly recommended!

CanadaAbsolutely nothing, it was perfect!
Yado Kiramachi is a wonderfully traditional and tastefully restored property in the heart of Kyoto. Despite being so proximate, the villa is nothing less than a quiet, tranquil escape - especially soaking in the Japanese Cypress private onsen. A bus stop is conveniently located just outside the facility, making travel around Kyoto incredibly easy. The staff are very helpful, friendly and attentive, providing recommendations for places to eat and how to get around. Overall, I could not recommend Yado Kiramachi enough to anybody looking for a true Japanese experience during their stay in Kyoto!

United StatesThere seemed to be only one small trash can in the upstairs bathroom, so our trash accumulated a bit over our stay. It would have been nice to have another trash can, especially considering there are not many public trash cans in Kyoto!
The staff are incredibly responsive and kind, the space is stunning and peaceful, the rooms are beautiful and spacious. I could go on and on. We only wish we could have stayed longer, but when we booked, we got the only room left for the only two nights it was available during our trip! We loved the soaking tub, the private garden, the comfy futon, and the yukatas that were provided in the room. There are also a few vending machines only steps away, a convenience store across the street, incredible restaurants near by, a bus station close by, and a subway station only an 8-min walk away. Would love to return and stay for longer!

This is a stunning property, located in a central location. It was amazing to stay here after Tokyo city - it offered a peacefulness. Outdoor bathtub and shower were a highlight! Futons were comfortable and the amenities were all great. Tada and her team were fabulous and so helpful. Would love to come back!

It was on a quiet street, at a convenient distance from the shrines/temples and streets we wanted to check out. Our check in was a breeze and the ryokan experience felt authentic with all of its nice touches.

United KingdomThe lighting looks stunning but isn’t always practical. Very steep stairs up to the second floor.
Brilliant stay in a traditional Japanese house. We had two floors with all of the amenities, as well as a private outdoor bathroom. The outdoor bath was lovely and warm, despite it being 12 degrees outside! Futon beds were very comfortable. Tada and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay extremely special. Definitely book this for more than one night if you can! It’s so brilliantly located for sightseeing, local restaurants and Michelin star food and is an experience in itself.

GermanyThe woman hosting us was incredibly kind, warm and welcoming. She was very helpful and could find and reserve restaurants for us that only locals would know enhancing our experience. We got a complimentary Japanese breakfast to try. The townhouse itself and facilities are great, very pretty but also clean and well thought through, details that matter. Especially the little lookout room and outdoor shower and bath enlightened our stay. The location is right where you need to be fast at restaurants, bars, shopping and public transportation. The value for your money is certainly there.

United StatesA great way to experience more traditional Japanese lodging. The "room" was two floors with sleeping area upstairs with a sitting area. An indoor/outdoor bathroom enhanced the experience. Good location off the beaten path - but close enough to everything you need - including public transportation. Although you want to get out and experience everything Kyoto, plan a few hours to just sit and enjoy Yado Kiramachi - reading and enjoying tea.

AustraliaIncredible service and hotel!! The staff were always so lovely and friendly - they went above and beyond even offering to organise drop off of our big luggage to our next hotel and letting us drop our luggage a day early (and met us outside to bring our luggage in!) The room was truly wonderful - the traditional tatami, kotatsu and hinoki bath was an incredible delight. The futon was so so comfortable to sleep in (have not had a better sleep!) The location could not be better being so close to Karasuma station (7min walk) and right next to Gion/lots of restaurants and cafes. The Kiramachi was absolutely the highlight of our trip. I cannot recommend Kiramachi enough, we will certainly be visiting again!

SingaporePerhaps the lighting in the toilets for both the first and second floors were a bit dark. It would be great if there was more lighting. The stairs were also kind of steep so travellers with elderly in the family may want to be wary about this.
The service was great and the design of the room was everything that I envisioned it to be in Kyoto, it was stunning. The owner was also very sweet and kind.

Our stay at Village Kiramachi was simply incredible. The staff were so generous and welcoming, we felt right at home. The accomodation was peaceful, calm, comfortable and we loved experiencing a traditional stay that still included all of the comforts of a luxury stay. The accomodation was located in a great spot with so many delicious, local restaurants within walking distance. Our hosts had great recommendations for us. The metro was a 10-15 minute walk and was on the main line so it was easy to travel to all the main sites of Kyoto. We would highly recommend this stay and would love to come back again in the future.

United StatesI loved everything nothing to dislike.
The staff were wonderful, they reached out to us prior to our arrival to get an estimate time that we would check in so they could greet us. The ryokan was beautiful and then changed towels and made the futon beds for us daily while we were out and about. The external shower and soaking tub were great. We went when it was cold in February and we still used it nightly and enjoyed the serenity of it. A traditional Japanese breakfast was included and delicious. You just need to inform them the time you was breakfast delivered before 5:00 pm the day before. I didn’t speak Japanese and I was able to communicate with them well and they used the messaging feature on booking.com to make communication very easy. On our last day we were able to leave our luggage until we were picked up by our taxi later in the day and the worker took all of our luggage to the taxi picking us up.
