Our second night lady that helped us with food service was rude and untimely. Came in room when i asked her to please give me 10 minutes to dress. Woke us up hour earlier than we requested. She pushed in. So rude. The lady first night was perfect.

Very authentic japan onsen. Sleep on mats on floor. Private onsen.

This place is too expensive for 30 minutes private bath. The time slot we got was 12am to 12:30am which wasn’t great. We didn’t want to jump in the water midnight after a tiring day trip.

For a guy that eats anything and loves Japanese food this place was amazing. But if you are here to enjoy the customs from the your country and have a hard time adjusting. I would suggest a hotel and mcdonalds, or a place that can accommodate your diets. This place was amazing and deserves way more credit, staff were friendly and were very respectful. If you want to live and breathe the Japanese culture, this is the place for you.

Very lovely staff and hospitable. Meals were amazing! If you love the Japanese culture and want to experience a traditional stay.

No river view although room was booked with a view.

Traditional style accommodation with a nice onsen. You can book a 30 minute slot for the private onsen (first come first served) and other 24h public onsens. Good dinner and breakfast, with traditional and unique (!) dishes.

Was a little bit old and musty, but that is what was expected when staying in traditional ryokan. If anything it added to the experience, so not much of a negative

Staff was very courteous, private onsen was amazing, ryokan seemed very authentic and great experience overall. Traditional meal was also very cool. Great value.

The private onsen in our room was so filthy we couldn’t use it. However the private onsen in the main hotel seemed fine, much hotter as well.

The ryokan is dated and the food was pretty but didn’t taste great. Check in is 3pm and check out is 10am. This didn’t give much time to do anything outside of the ryokan if you didn’t arrive early.

It’s close to the train station and the staff was nice. The private Onsen with Mountain View is a must. You open the window panes which give you unobstructed view is the mountains. We (family of 4) was in the Zuihan room which I believe is the best room in the ryokan.

The only thing I thought that could be better is probably the food selection they gave. Another thing would be the lack of views outside the Ryokan which isn't the Ryokan fault of course due to its location.

The staff were super friendly at this Ryokan and the food was good. Not the best set of omakase but overall enjoyed the private onsen to relax. I liked that you could reserve a time for an onsen but I just preferred my private one and worth the money.

Most of the bad reviews: you have to know what to expect in a Ryokan, if you don't want to experience that better book a Holiday Inn. For all travellers who wish to have a unique and authentic experience: go for it!

It was our first Ryokan experience and we loved it! We slept very well and the food was delicious - you have to be aware that you'll be served Japanese traditional food for dinner and breakfast, we liked it very much and especially the dinner was amazing. We can definitely recommend this place.

Nothing. It's old premise but we love it as we wanted to experience a not so common experience.

The location is very accessible to the shopping street and just beside it is picturesque sakura and river view. The granny taking care of us was very friendly and patient with our limited Japanese. Food was good. Very sumptous for dinner and breakfast. We were able to use onsen twice, one is the booked private onsen at specific time and the other is the family onsen that if not occupied, you may just walk in to use. Host allows us to deposit bags before check in and also on day of check out when we left hotel early to go day trip to Owakudani black egg.

A treat to stay in a traditional ryokan

If anything there was too much food. Especially for breakfast - after a huge meal the night before, we just couldn't eat much of the beautifully presented breakfast. And although we liked it being traditional, found it a bit too fishy for our tastes - and we missed having coffee! The only other negative was that the corners of the rooms were quite dusty and the furnishings a bit tired.

Staying in a traditional ryokan was a treat. We really enjoyed the rooms, with tatami mats and windows overlooking beautiful greenery. The futons were really comfortable and our room had its own onsen, which was fabulous. The evening meals were extraordinary. Beautifully presented, with numerous delicious dishes. If anything there was too much food. The breakfast too was very lavish.

I could not have a choice to cancel my pre-booked dinners nor was I offered a choice at booking to specify and curate my dinner and meal options

Hakone is a very nice location. Everything in the area is a nice walk away and great food surrounding the Ryokan as well. Will definitely be coming back to the area but I may not drive this time the staff are really nice and polite - everything Japanese u expect.

Would have liked a couple of normal chairs in the room as we are seniors and sitting on the floor is difficult for us.

Very unique and special stay in a traditional Ryokan. Staff we were very friendly and helpful in explaining how everything worked. Location was great, 10 minutes from Hakone-Yumoto station and was very easy to use bus/train to explore surrounding areas. Absolutely loved having our own private onsen, was one of the highlights of the trip and definitely worth it!! Meals were large quantity, fresh and traditional, which was a great experience.

Slippers run out at front door, staff isn't available at night, futons are a bit rough but bearable.

Food was very delicious, staff is very patient and helpful. Onsen is very hot so be careful stepping in, slowly submerging is the trick.

For the price I thought the facilities would be a bit more clean and updated. I understand it’s an old building but there was very easy fixes that could be done to make it look and feel more elegant and clean. With that being said it does have a very authentic feel which we appreciated. The public onsen wasn’t anything special and you have to reserve your time right when you check in, if you are later to check in the only times available are later at night. When we booked the hotel it said dinner would be during a certain time frame but when we arrived staff told us dinner would be at 1800 and if we weren’t in our room at 1800 we wouldn’t get food. We had booked massages and had to move things around to make it back for dinner so just an FYI. Lastly, food is very unique and we liked trying different things but you have no idea what you are eating since the staff speaks no English. Would have been nice to know what we were eating since there was so many unique dishes/types of food.

Loved how big the Ryokan was, was not expecting to have multiple rooms/areas which was nice! Felt very authentic with eating on the floor/sleeping on futon/wearing slippers. Staff was very polite and nice for not being able to communicate with them. Location was great. We liked how the town was a little quieter then some of the others and close to the train/bus station. We booked the “private onsen room with Mountain View” and I would highly recommend. Having the private onsen was so nice and relaxing and the perfect way the start and end a day.
