Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainThe bed wasn’t confortable. They made you pay for the onsen even when you haven’t use it and it can only be paid in cash. This wasn’t indicated on the booking.
The location was the only thing positive about this hotel.

United StatesThe building shows it's age and appears to not have been refurbished in decades. It's unfortunate because the building looks like it was great place in its day. The room I stayed in had a bad smell at the entrance, if I had to describe it I would say a mix of curry and AC mold. The AC in the room did not work very well and had to run for 1+ hours before it would cool the room. I struggled to communicate with the staff (I only speak a little Japanese, so it's mostly my fault), but most hotels and ryokans I've visited in Japan had english speaking staff. There are two onsens at the hotel and they switch the men/women assignment in the middle of the day. One of the onsens is far better than the other, with a great view of the lake and a nice open-air bath (during my stay, this was available to men during the morning/day). The other onsen left a lot to be desired. This one had an inside bath and two outdoor tubs. The outdoor tubs were in bad shape. They were made of wood and were in stages of disrepair and degradation. Also, the astroturf rugs between the baths felt cheap.
The location was nice, right next to Kawaguchiko lake and easily walkable to the train station and lakeside restaurants. The shuttle was convenient and helpful for arriving and departing with luggage.

Hong KongPoor response from reception. I called receptionist at night and said I will be there in seeking some help. After I arrived at reception in 5 minutes. No one was there. In other day during the normal business hours, I presses the ring bell at reception and again no response. In the room, my kid suffered from contraction of respiratory duct due to dusty blanket and environment.
Good view of the onsen

United KingdomWe arrived during the fireworks festival which may have contributed. But found staff not as attentive as other ryokans and a sense that it was a facility without a heart

United StatesI liked everything. Would definitely come back.
I loved the onsen and the traditional feel of the ryokan. We stayed one night and, at lest for our stay, they switched the sides for the male and female onsen so I was able to enjoy both sides. One side has a small stone outdoor area that has a very beautiful view. Paired with a cold morning the water and view are perfect. The hotel was also within walking distance of the lake and a tram that goes up the mountain nearby of an incredible view of Mt. Fuji. There is also a convenience store right next to the hotel for late night snacks and toiletries if you need.

AustraliaIt was hard to get signal for the wifi in our room, so we had to go down to the lobby if we really needed to use it.
A nice clean, spacious hotel room. The hotel onsen was amazing and a great inclusion. Great location and views of the lake with good options for parking right outside.

Singapore1. the futon padding had no cushioning and was very hard like cardboard. it felt like sleeping on a wooden floor. a yoga mat would be softer 2. there was cooking going on in the rooms near ours. the smell of cooking was strong. 3. my wife and I were given one room key to share - it made going to the onsen difficult as we had to coordinate our timings. we asked to have one more key and was told NO.

New ZealandThe pictures make it look nice and tidy, however the whole place is worn out and sad. if you get an interior room it is as gloomy as they come. showers are feeble. onsen has potential but is quite run down. Corridor smells of smoke. Of the 10 places I’ve stayed in Japan, this one was the worst of pictures to reality.

SingaporeThe hotel is located right next to the lake, nearby to the mt fuji panoramic ropeway which lead you to the top of tenjozan park with a great view of mt fuji. The room is spacious and clean. Shower is a bit small, but it is just the right size for us. The traditional japanese breakfast is great, we love it. Didn't booked for the dinner so no comment.

ThailandGood location with a stunning view of the lake. Onsen inside the ryokan is a boon for a relaxing night after a long day walking. The hotel provides free transfers to and from the Kawagichiko station. Also, it allows for early luggage drop-offs, making it very convenient to spend time visiting many attractions before checking in later.

SingaporeStaff was unfriendly and not helpful enough. Place was a bit old. Expensive. Dinner was not like what I expected. When reached the lobby a bit early the place was unlit with nobody at reception. Rang the bell and when the man came out, he was grouchy and gruffly tell me "check I time 3pm". Impatient and made me felt totally unwelcome. Maybe it was the holiday blues and they are totally booked out because of the long holidays but that's not the way to treat your guest. Put me in a room that needs me to lug my bags up and down the stairs. Not returning ever again.
Nothing really. I guess it was nice gesture to send me to the train station.
