How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It was not a great view from our room, but considering we were getting our 20,000 steps in exploring Kyoto most of the time, that didn't matter.
Perfect location. Walkable to alot of tourist attractions & great restaurants. Room was great, large enough to relax, fridge and coffee maker. Bath & shower fabulous. Staff were very polite and helpful

Location was excellent close to walking distance to most major attractions and the Gion area. The room was clean and comfortable and probably the biggest hotel room I have been in in Japan. Staff was great, really helpful. There's no breakfast but there are lots of places close by to get breakfast. I would definitely stay here again when in Kyoto.

No laundry service. Centrally controlled heating - unable to adjust ourselves. Windows didn’t open.
Great location, very helpful and friendly staff who helped with luggage services. Very spacious and clean.

There were two beds, each about 1,4m, as a married couple, it was difficult to sleep together

It was comfortable, clean, tea and coffee making facilities - with a Nespresso machine. Public transport close, lots of bars and restaurants very close. I would stay there again.

The room was very warm and we were unable to cool it down enough for sleeping. Some English instructions in the room for the air con controls would have been helpful
Very spacious. Separate toilet for privacy and assistance in getting ready for 2 people. Beds were great. Fantastic to be in a back street away from the Gion crowds. We chose to eat locally and use a nearby bar. Much less crowded and great service. Very convenient to buses and shops.

We were very uncomfortable the first couple of nights since we were hot and had no access to the air conditioner. Couldn’t open the windows per instructions. Once we let the hotel staff know they turned the air conditioner on and then we were fine.

The concierge was only open from 10am to 10pmsince it was a small hotel. Wish it had breakfast as it was hard to find in the earlier hours.
Perfect location in the Gion area. Many walkable places and easy access to station and main roads. Staff were excellent. The room was even better than expected. Spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was incredible. Fanciest toilet we experienced.

There is a strange situation with the air con. It is advertised as being per room, but on arrival we were told it was a centrally managed system and to only use the panel in our room to turn it on or off. As it was set to heating mode, the room was uncomfortably warm for us. The hotel did then say the next morning we could set it to cooling as we were the only room on our floor. Very confusing and not sure what the situation would have been if we had other rooms on the floor but the staff resolved it for us and were very helpful
We loved the location and the size of the room, it was more like a suite

A bit expensive for a solo traveler but overall a nice experience.
Beautiful room, comfortable bed, bath was amazing & automatic toilets were a fun surprise. It was close to everything in Gion and felt super lush overall.

The location is between the bars and clubs and not a very quiet one. It also spoils the historical vibe of Gion.
Rooms are the biggest I've stayed in Japan. Very comfortable. The stuff is beyond great, the most helpful I've ever met!
