The entire experience was exceptional, luxurious and unique. We felt so well cared for, and the staff was so incredibly kind, attentive, and patient. Our requests and questions were met with such grace and I feel like we learned so much. The meals were exquisite experiences - the most amazing meal I've ever had. Every detail was beyond perfect. The property is stunning.

There was some mildew in the bathroom

We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped in and had a warm farewell at departure time. The food was outstanding (our best meal in Japan) and the experience of staying at an authentic ryokan with an ensuite onsen is unforgettable.

Our stay was perfect. We booked a corner room with a private onsen, which we used throughout our stay. The property is stunning with views of Mt. Fuji from certain areas. The service and meals the staff provided were perfect. The food was amazing and was on par with Michelin star restaurants we dined at during our trip. I would revisit next time I had the opportunity and will recommend family and friends to stay.

We booked a room with a private onsen and the whole experience was fantastic! The staff were extremely friendly and the facilities made for some A+ relaxation. You are served dinner and breakfast during your stay—and the food is delicious. Definitely a worthwhile experience during our visit to Japan!

At night you could here some sounds of other patrons walking around through the ceiling which I was surprised at for what the rooms cost.

The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and their English was pretty good. They were the highlight of the stay! The two chinese maids that serviced my room were very informative about japanese tradition they deserve high praise. The traditional food was interesting for me as I've never eaten a lot of the dishes before, you could tell the ingredients were high quality. The beds were very comfortable and the onsen was very relaxing.

Our stay was too short! Ha!

What did we like? EVERYTHING, REALLY! Yoshimatsu was the highlight of our trip! It was our first onsen ryokan experience and it really blew our minds. I can't say enough good things about our stay from our room, to the staff, to the amazing kaiseki meals (kaiseki-ryōri is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner) and the onsen. We will definitely be back and would love to find a room with a private onsen next time round. We thank all the staff for making our trip such a memorable one!

We had a wonderful time staying at this stunning ryokan. The rooms and the garden are beautiful, traditional, and curated in every detail. Our room had a terrace with a private onsen, which was extremely convenient and personal. As a couple, we also tried the private onsen in the gardens at 6am and caught gorgeous views of mount Fuji. Against what some reviews say, there is no need to book this private onsen - a lantern shows if it is in use by others or available. The kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were of very high-standard, unique, delicious, beautifully made and presented. The staff were extremely kind and attentive, no issues with English, just really great care which started right at the point of arrival with greeting and refreshements. We were travelling to Matsumoto the next day to our stay and the staff went out of their way to recommend us the best trains to take. We were really made to feel special, and hope to be back in the future.

The hand massage was fully booked by the time of arrival. I wasn't aware that I had to make a reservation for them as they're only available starting from 4:00 pm till sometime in the night. Also, I didn't really like that in addition to the high nightly charge, the drinks from the fridge and the drinks from the dinner menu cost money.

The dinner, breakfast, and onsen were all amazing! I also liked the massage chairs that were right outside of the public onsen. The staff were also very attentive and assisted me the moment my foot stepped foot on the property!

The hotel is tucked away a few minutes walk from other things in Hakone (ie not right against the lake or on a major road), which can be a plus or negative depending on your preference.

Such exceptional staff, who made us feel welcomed even from the start. We arrived early, so they served us snacks and tea while we waited (and spoke really good English!). The Japanese Kaiseki style dinner was served to us in our room, and featured many different amazing courses. Our room also had a private Onsen which was just what we needed to relax following a hike up Mt Fuji the day before.

Our family of three (mom, dad, and teen daughter) stayed for two nights / one day at this traditional onsen ryokan to celebrate dad's birthday. The staff were attentive and helpful. The facilities were very nice with beautiful landscaping and koi ponds, etc. We splurged on the "Japanese-Style Corner Room with Outdoor Hot Spring” and were glad we did. It consisted of one main room where we had our meals, a second bedroom, a small sitting room, and our own outdoor bath! We also enjoyed visiting the public baths on site. The lovely woman who served us all our meals (Rena?) was sweet, friendly and laughed easily. The numerous courses of the kaiseki meals were obviously carefully prepared and plated - our compliments to the chef! Some dishes might not be to the taste of every foreigner but fortunately we love Japanese food and are game to try new things. (Note: It was a heck of A LOT of food, for breakfast and especially for dinner, so difficult if not impossible for us to finish everything.) This was an wonderful experience we will always remember. ありがとうございます

I have no idea what could have been better. It really was exceptional in every way.

Exceptional stay for a 1 night splurge. Our 7yo is asking when we can return. The dinner was truly amazing - lots of seafood, but several options for people of varying palettes. Plus they offered a kid's dinner basket that also included a cheesy casserole and other things that were more appealing to our kid. Breakfast was also lovely, but we were rushed to leave because it was foggy & the tourist info person at the train station had advised us to get on the Pirate Ship and Ropeways before the high winds were forecast for mid-day. We did the clockwise tourist loop & loved it all. The ryokan is walking distance from the bus stop / ship port. Thanks so much Yoshimatsu for a truly wonderful stay!

Breakfast and dinner were all very delicious - you could tell how much care went into the preparation. I was upgraded to a room with a private onsen and that was absolutely spectacular. The onsen even had a view of Mt. Fuji! Finally, the staff was exceptional - they were very receptive and were eager to help with anything and everything I needed. My room was clean and quiet. Even though this is very much a "treat yourself" experience, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The staff at Yoshimatsu went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable experience - we were blown away by their friendliness and level of service. The property was beautiful and serene, and was the perfect location for what we were interested in - 3 minute walk to Lake Ashi (we were able to see Mt. Fuji) and about a 30 minute stroll to the famous tori gate. The onsen baths were also relaxing and the kaseiki meal was delicious. We particularly enjoyed our personal attendant who served our meals and took care of the turndown service. This was a definite highlight of our trip to Japan.
