Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe room was very small and cramped. The interior of the hotel looked a bit tired.

ChileThe view was nice but nothing impressive. You can tell the facilities are kinda old, but it's just a minor detail and I didn't really care.
Japanese hospitality and quality of service at its finest! The room was beautiful and comfortable, the food was amazing and served with care, the public baths great, there are complimentary sweets and tea and coffee in the lobby. Recommended!

SingaporeThe onsen is on the smaller side, and men & women have alternating hours for use. Still a good onsen just didn’t manage to use it before check-out as the time for women’s use elapsed.
Excellent Ryokan staff. Breakfast was included and had a wide spread (everything was delicious). Free bathing products to bring to the Onsen and snacks after Onsen. The view next to the river with sakura blooming was awesome.

AustraliaCurrently the men public onsen is under renovation and men and ladies have to take turns to use the public bath. It would be nice if I were informed about this restriction b4 checking in. Also I was not told at check in that we could have used another public onsen as replacement on the day, as the offer was only for very limited hours, by the time I read about it from the hotel arriving info, was too late. Room is getting old and bathroom did not look good, guess they do not expect guests to use it? The picture on Booking.com showed a very nice tub onsen but it is only available in some special (more expensive) rooms. Felt disappointed as a result.
Good food. Dinning staff was very friendly. The only one public onsen was nice.

Our stay at Kansyokan was very lovely and relaxing. We choose this ryokan as it has private bath in the room which was convenient. One of the public bath is under renovation. The service was brilliant, staffs was great. The atmosphere was nice and peaceful. Meals were delicious.

PortugalThe bedding was super warm but the room at night got a bit cold, no equilibrium. The place would benefit from a small renovation since it was showing some signs of ageing like damaged wallpaper.
I loved the location on a small town in the middle of the mountains. The outdoor bath while it was snowing was magical.

NetherlandsOur rooms were not in the style of the rest of the hotel and felt a bit lower in quality compared to the rest. The onsen is average and could've done more. They don't switch sides daily and we had a feeling that one side is better than the other.
Lovely and friendly staff. We had a birthday and they happily arranged something for us. The kaiseiki dinner is well arranged and tasty and the breakfast buffet had lots of choices. We used this hotel for our day trip visit to Ginzan and it is a great alternative for the famous town.

United StatesThe carpeting in our room appeared to have been stained and this contributed to feeling that there was inadequate cleanliness. We would have preferred a tatami-style room and had thought, while we had opted for a Japanese-style room, that we were placed mistakingly in a western-style room. While we were welcomed by staff initially, we felt that staff did not initiate any offers of helpfulness later.
The facility was spacious, generally clean, and the onsen was very pleasant. The breakfasts were good. The staff were flexible in providing transportation initially when meeting us at the train station.

JapanIt's so far from any major station. If you don't drive, quite a hassle to get there by train. Only comes once in 2 hours.
Even though the facilities are quite old and worn out the room was quite spacious for a Japanese standard. The staff were great, super helpful and kind. Women's spa was smaller than expected especially the open air bath. But nice.

SingaporeThe location was a tad remote. The onsen bathroom lacked blinds, which compromised our privacy as it allowed full visibility from outside, particularly from the garden below. We hope the property can address this issue to better safeguard guests' privacy.
The impeccable service exceeded our expectations. The spacious room was a delight, and having dinner served in-room was a wonderful touch. The kaiseki dinner was simply exquisite, and breakfast was equally delightful.
